Love Changes Things. 24 x 36. Watercolor. 2002. Just as light changes these antique roses into something of extraordinary beauty, love transforms ordinary people into extraordinary friends. My favorite painting. This won best of show when displayed in 2002. I call this my miracle painting as I almost did not live to finish it. Through God's divine intervention I am cured! I've never been healthier or happier.
An excellent 20 x 30 giclee reproduction on watercolor paper is available. Contact me for details.

I am slowly taming some of the wild things… Following advice I dramatically cut down on exposure times: down to 15 seconds now… This is almost instant photography!
Fogging is better, but not completely controlled. I am now wondering whether this really isn't just a too hot environment to work in. If I were to develop film (and that is something I *know* how to do) I would have to take special measures to avoid it fogging - why should calotypes be any different?
The other thing that puzzles me is the brushwork - I thought I knew how to brush: check out all my recent calotypes and paper work! The Pelegry calotypes were brushed. The bichro-silver paper was brushed. Heck, even my platinum work is all brushed! So what exactly went wrong here? Any brushing I have done was done leaving an even wet mark, and the next brush stroke was well overlapping the previous one - so that in the end I'd have an (apparently?) evenly wet surface. Just like all my other work… But here it looks almost as if I was passing a nearly dry cotton wad in a very sloppy way?! Hmmm…
I can't understand why I wanted a better camera (I can really) but I'm on this kick of adding noise to my images lately.

The low morning light was beautiful on the grass and weeds lining this gravel road north of Idaho Falls. I am becoming more and more convinced that there is beauty all around us. Finding that beauty is not so much traveling to it but opening our eyes and seeing the beauty in the common and simple things around us.

less than 24 hours after yesterday’s snowy snap, and one monster storm later, the driveway looks… a bit different
I took this a few days back but it's probably still there after several days in the 20's with no sun. That may be changing.
The forecast is for some sun and temps in the upper 30's. Maybe I'll get rid of some of the icicles hanging on my gutters.
Today, convection is on the increase early (11AM). This thunderhead developed quickly and was replaced with adjacent towering cumulus cells after it anviled out a few minutes later.
If you look closely, the towering cloud looks like a clown with a small hat!! I like the nose and buggy eye (in profile). Looks like it wants to speak. heh heh :-). Just discovered a monkey on the right side of the clown!
‘‘Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things. And the reason they were able to do that was that they’ve had more experiences than other people.’
