To me, a shot can be so much more fun when you play with the depth of field.

Happy Window Wednesday

Usually I am cutting tissue

The inconspicuous things in nature are usually the most beautiful to me when I look closely....

Die unscheinbaren Dinge in der Natur sind bei genauer Betrachtung meist das Schönste für mich...

Listen to birds chatting in the morning when the sky turns from black to blue and pink, shy at first and full of energy shortly...

Wait for the morning mist to leave a trail of little stars that sparkle in the grass while the sun rises and paints the canvas of the sky...

Breathe the crisp air... Have a coffee...

Small things at the start of a new day... Small things that bring comfort and calm...

Well maybe it's just this mishmash of images that makes no sense but I like it and it's made up of a few shots I took this morning. I started with a visit from my deer family, progressed through some dew covered spiders and webs in the sunlight and ended up with a 4 inch long Imperial Moth caterpillar. Interesting morning. I've been working on my vacation shots to the exclusion of a good slide so I thought I'd craft up something from this morning with the caterpillar and the other images composited together.

If you have forgotten or this is your first time viewing my photostream: Things That Make No Sense are just that, assorted bits of amusement for nothing more than visual curiosity and my idea of what I call art or abstract art. Now a series of sorts, the series is interrupted with photographs that do make sense, or at least make sense to me. You can like them or not but they make me smile.

Happy Slider Sunday - HSS!

The Damrak houses first introduced me to the Dutch word gezellig (meaning cozy or homely) I was always wandering in from the train station after dark and I would constantly stop and stare at these houses thinking it felt like an incandescent oasis in a city of fluorescents, warming the night and the Damrak with its soft glow.

When you walk by during the day usually things are shut tight against the throngs of tourists walking back and forth from the central station but at night when the crowds have dissipated the curtains open and the world seems to be welcome to become a witness to the nocturnal activities of the residents.

The Damrak historically was originally part of the Amstel river below the Dam that gave Amsterdam its name, Rak means a straight stretch or place to gain speed, so the Damrak was actually the straight piece of river below the Dam across the Amstel where sailors would pick up some speed on their home stretch to the port of Amsterdam.

I took this on Sept 10th, 2017 with my D750 and Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens at 44mm 25 sec f/11 ISO100 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia, Topaz , Luminar and DXO

Few things get my photo mojo kicked into high gear more than the autumn season here in Ontario: a pearl-grey morning sky, the smell of rain in the air, and leaves turning from green to crimson and orange to gold. Well we've loaded the motor home and heading to St. Louis today. Our youngest son graduates Thursday from police academy. He will be a police officer in a suburb town near St. Louis. So when I get TIME I will try to connect and comment for sure. But all take care and be safe.

Crazy Tuesday-Things With Wheels

Sometimes it's the little things in life that bring the most pleasure:))

🎶🎶🎶

remember how it used to be

when the sun would fill up the sky

remember how we used to feel

those days would never end

those days would never end

remember how it used to be

when the stars would fill the sky

remember how we used to dream

those nights would never end

those nights would never end

it was the sweetness of your skin

it was the hope of all we might have been

that fills me with the hope to wish

impossible things

but now the sun shines cold

and all the sky is grey

the stars are dimmed by clouds and tears

and all i wish

is gone away

all i wish

is gone away

all i wish

is gone away

*many thanks to my dear friend Tre Meldazis, that allowed me to work in this peaceful and gorgeous SIM to take the pic :)

This past week I completed my third trip to the romanticized "Iron Range" in Northern Minnesota. My first trip was January of 2019. Even in that short amount of time I have noticed many changes on the range. I won't go on and preach to the choir but one of the most notable changes is the power. EMD's and GE's are used almost interchangeably on the Missabe Sub, leading to mismatched sets of 40's and -8's. I was never in the hobby early enough to see the range with just 40's, but shooting full EMD sets has become a rarity- too rare to even be guaranteed a shot of the year if you run the numbers and spend a week up here. Ive been having a debate within my own head if another trip is worth it in the near future. Next thing I will know 5 years will pass by and even the things I take for granted will be gone.
