How this little juvenile Back-crowned night heron made my heart sing when he did this! Everything was right about this moment except the photographer. Sadly, my settings were set for a tricolored heron fishing in bright water! Oh well... I'm posting them anyway, with a bit of manipulation since I haven't seen too many like this, and I loved the way the light brought out the red in his eye... Hope you enjoy! Any suggestions? Do you like one more than the other?

37612 and 37610 top and tail 1Z22, the 08:20 Tyseley - Bristol High Level Siding via The World test train past Hungerford Common
Several of us were waiting for this at Ashbury Crossing, Shrivenham, but because of an incident invloving two IETs hitting a cow at Wootton Bassett, 1Z22 was diverted via Reading and down the Berks and Hants
As soon as the train was signalled east out of Didcot, a rapid exodus of photographers occurred as we all attempted to get to Hungerford before 37612 - I don't think everyone was successful. I just made it onto the bridge with time to setup the tripod and video camera and swap lenses to get this

an orchid i found in the gardens of greenbelt mall. unusual for this type to be growing on the ground and not hanging from trees.

"You see, what we're talkin' about here is an organism that imitates other life-forms, and it imitates 'em perfectly. When this thing attacked our dogs it tried to digest them ... absorb them, and in the process shape its own cells to imitate them."

"Who is this irresistible creature who has an insatiable love for the dead?"
Living Dead Girl!
"What are you thinking about?
What are you thinking about?"
"The same thing you are"
Rage in the cage
And piss upon the stage
There's only one sure way
To bring the giant down
Defunct the strings
Of cemetery things
With one flat foot
On the devil's wing
Crawl on me
Sink into me
Die for me
Living Dead Girl
Crawl on me
Sink into me
Die for me
Living Dead Girl
"What are you thinking about?
What are you thinking about?"
"The same thing you are"
Raping the geek
And hustling the freak
Like a hunchback juice
On a sentimental noose
Operation filth
They love to love the wealth
Of an SS whore
Making scary sounds
Crawl on me
Sink into me
Die for me
Living Dead Girl
Crawl on me
Sink into me
Die for me
Living Dead Girl
"What are you thinking about?"
Psyclone jack
Hallucinating hack
Thinks that Donna Reed
Eats dollar bills
Goldfoot's machine
Creates another fiend
So beautiful
They make you kill
Crawl on me
Sink into me
Die for me
Living Dead Girl
Crawl on me
Sink into me
Die for me
Living Dead Girl
Blood on her skin
Dripping with sin
Do it again
Living Dead Girl
Blood on her skin
Dripping with sin
Do it again
Living Dead Girl

One of my favourite creature to visit at an animal park...The Pallas Cat...
Their eyes and their low ears make them look so different comparing to other wild cats...

Have a wonderful evening!
One from Freshwater, Dorset on Saturday afternoon (well evening) The nights are drawing in so much now that sunset is actually in the afternoon, if you ask me :)
"Yeah, fuck you too!"
Just remembered I had finished this.
And yes I made three separate figures.
I watched the thing on Halloween and I absolutely loved it. the practical effects are breathtaking and Kurt Russel is great as always.
For the hairpiece, I modified a Han Solo hairpiece.
The beard is sculpted.
The hood is from the TLG Scarlet Spider.
The jacket is made from a Lego pirate sail, the with the fur collar sculpted with ProCreate. the TNT sticks are levers.
The Flamethrower is made from a BrickArms spy pistol with another one glued on, then some other piece that I'm forgetting. It's attached with some lego string, and the two main tanks are made from two cylinder 1x1's, bars and 1x1 flat studs on the bottom, and procreate the round the top and smooth them out, the smaller one is all procreate, and the gunmetal tube is from some bad apple headphone I had lying around.
The pants pockets are made of sails as well.
I used a mix of Testors paints and Craftsmart to paint this.
The base was a colossal pain in the ass to make, but I think its a cool addition to the figure. It's made to look like Mac's petri dish from the blood test scene. The main base is a Minimate base, and the sides were some action figure plastic I used a heat gun on to bend it around the base. The blood is Tamiya paints transparent red.
All in all, I think this turned out to be one of my better figures.
What do you think?

Here's the thing. My area is not on a main bird flyway. We don't see large numbers of migrating birds, and in the woods along the river where I photograph, there are very seldom any people. The birds are not acclimated to seeing humans.
Among the most skittish, and habitat-aware are the Wood Ducks. We have a small number of them for most of the year, but away from human contact. It is a significant challenge to get near to them before they leap in to the air and fly away, crying like babies.
I spotted this one, along with its mate swimming ahead, from quite a distance...knowing where to look. Too far to get anything but a back end shot, I began paralleling them, staying far enough away -- hopefully -- to keep from scaring them before I could get an opportunity.
We had moved far enough that I knew they were about to turn a direction I couldn't continue following. I stepped into the open, and got a few shots of this Drake. As soon as I did, the hen took off, followed immediately by this guy.
In the top comment box you can see how quickly they rocket into the air away from whatever startles them. Please check it out larger.
One thing I love to do is drive into the city, park the car somewhere that looks interesting and then walk the streets of the neighbourhood. Today I took a stroll around Strathcona. Well at least as best as I could. As it was a weekend and all the parking restrictions there it was more of a case Kevin would drop me off, drive around the block a couple of times while I took photos. Still it all worked out in the end.
