The easiest thing in life is to give advice to other people.
The hardest part is following this advice yourself.

"With life I get involved.
I suffer if it is to suffer,
I celebrate if there's a reason,
love without guarantees,
mistake the path, correct whatever is possible,
I lose with the same dignity with which I gain.
Because the only thing I don't want to take with me is the misfortune of not having enjoyed every second of the adventure of being who I am."(Pe Fabio de Melo)

It was one thing when the cat knocked over the rolls of Christmas wrapping paper and the basket of bows in the basement where they're stored. But when kitty somehow managed to turn on the faucet in the basement basin and knocked the plug into the drain, things got really bad...
Done for Smile On Saturday: "Gift Wrapping Materials" theme
Actually folks, we don't have a cat and the basement didn't really flood, but I had to come up with a story line for the image. :-)

One thing about flowers, they continue to bloom no mater what.
So should we all...
Found this beauty in my garden this morning, made me smile, there were 3 beautiful buds for me to enjoy.
Hope your week ahead is a new adventure.... and a time to smell the roses....
Thank you all for your support and visit!
Eastern long-necked turtle
It had its head just poking out of the water. With a tweak to the contrast, the photo came alive.
Hiking the trail in the Lost Forty forest. Funny (and rather ironic) thing is, is that I did get lost for a short time while I was hiking the Lost Forty trail.
This section of forest lies within the Chippewa National Forest near Bigfork, Minnesota. A Minnesota DNR Scientific and Natural Area, the 32 acre Lost Forty SNA, is also part of this beautiful site.
Due to a surveying error back in 1882, this 144 acre section was never logged. As a result, there are numerous 300-400 year old magnificent old-growth red and white pines in this special place.
The sight of these incredible trees isn't the only thing you experience here. The smell of this forest is unique. The sound is also unique. The breeze blowing through the crowns of these old pines make this piece of the north woods sing a totally different tune than most other sections of forest up here. You have to experience it to understand what I am saying.
For more information about the Lost Forty, go to the Chippewa National Forest's Lost Forty Website or the Minnesota DNR's Lost Forty SNA Website.
Over here these are known as Short-billed Dowitchers. They usually fly in flocks of hundreds and even thousands at a time. Their clothes are winter. They love a little thing and like to "punch" looking for food. This beak is potent.

Some of you may have seen our increasingly woeful UK Prime Minister, just before our recent election, saying that the naughtiest thing she had ever done was to run through a field of wheat as a child. I thought I’d try and recreate that historic scene, using Alirium as the setting and a new pose from Foxcity that seems to fit the bill perfectly. History relived before your very eyes!

That's the Hyatt, downtown Austin. The great thing about the Hyatt is, it's a perfect place to take night shots of the city.
The weather was just right for my hike Sunday. A cold front is blowing in tonight and it looks like we're going to have a cold week. Of course, it's not going to be anything like what some of you are having. Hope your week goes well.
Walking along the harbor in Oban, Scotland on a very windy day, I found myself quite alone until these patient seagullscaught my eye. They quietly waited for the incoming tide, scanning the waves for something good to eat.

Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.

Love is funny, or it's sad
Or it's quiet, or it's mad
It's a good thing or it's bad
But beautiful
Beautiful to take a chance
And if you fall you fall
And I'm thinking I wouldn't mind at all
Love is tearful, or it's gay
It's a problem or it's play
It's a heartache either way
But beautiful
And I'm thinking if you were mine
I'd never let you go
And that would be but beautiful I know
But beautiful
And I'm thinking if you were mine
I'd never let you go
And that would be but beautiful I know

I've been trying to get out for a little fresh air before I start work everyday but with daylight starting so much closer to work time my chances to grab a shot are getting very limited, and I probably have to accept I will soon be doing just long exposure shots.
On my brief morning jaunt routine I noticed that a local wood had become swampy in the middle and I thought had aspects that looked a bit like a mangrove swamp. On a return visit I realised that I must have had my romantic glasses on and that "the swamp" had a more sinister feel about it.
So I was excited when this morning I woke and saw the local forecast showed "FOG". Well what a load of b@ll@cks that was. Not even a thin veil of the misty stuff.! But nonetheless self-discipline dictated I must head out for a short walk in the gloom. And stopped briefly to grab a few shots in the swampy bit in the semi-dark. But came away very unimpressed with my results. And now I'm not sure proper fog will make it any better
You don't see the other 20 guys making photos of the same thing, its a little demotivating until you look at the photos they took and they are crappy, then you remember that everyone can buy a cool camera but it doesnt mean they take good photos :P
Still, all of Iceland has been photographed to boredom and this is my try.

Looking forward to spring, when the green will become the thing again. Fresh and full, not warm, not cold, you can almost hear the forest growing. And birds will sing again. I'm really looking forward to this music...
