ODC: THERE'S A CHANGE IN THE WEATHER COMING
A lovely plant with stunning formation and color. I have been trying to get a decent photo of it for some time. The pink color is so vibrant, it almost glows. Truly Heavenly!
Our Daily Challenge ... new and improved.
I went shopping yesterday after my rehab session to buy some stretch bands to use for exercising at home. This turquoise throw rug caught my eye as I walked past so I made an impulse purchase. The evenings are beginning to get cool and I recently got out my old fleecy throw rug but this one is much nicer. It has a lovely soft 'nubbly' texture and the colour works well in the room.

I intended to try to do this challenge and then forgot all about it until today but I've just realised this pic I took today fits Sunday through to Tuesday anyway. Hope that's OK.
went for a wander through the museum in Ulverstone, Tasmania. Found some great Old-time stuff.
7 Days of Shooting –
Nowadays, we all text messages or receive messages on our phones but text is also the written or printed work - we can find text on our streets on signs or within that book you are currently reading - even within that e-reader!

It's Texture Tuesday: The Orange eDition. I've been away for a while. We had some beautiful flowers for a church banquet the other night and I brought some home. I have also been playing with my Lensbaby the last week or so - still trying to get the focus just right. Anyway, this week's challenge was orange.

for 7DoS: a metal plaque along the sea front. I'm no expert, but I think the erosion could be claiming more along this part of the coast, in the not too distant future!
Is this a sweet face or what?? I am back from my trip to an orphanage in Haiti. It's called God's Littlest Angels (www.glahaiti.org). All of the kids are so well cared for and very outgoing! Each one stole my heart. I will be posting more about my trip on the Faith page of my blog as I have time. For now you can view the texture recipe on my blog here: jleggphoto.squarespace.com/photography_2/2012/2/14/haiti-...
I also entered this shot for Kim Klassen's Texture Tuesday which is themed, "Happiness" for this week. I really love the two textures I used in this. Keep up the fab textures Kim!!

Carrie Furnace Photo Outing: Towering 92 feet over the Monongahela River, constructed of 2.5" thick steel plate and lined with refractory brick, Carrie Furnaces 6 and 7 are extremely rare examples of pre World War II iron-making technology. Since the collapse of the region's steel industry in the 1970s and 1980s, these are the only non-operative blast furnaces in the Pittsburgh District to remain standing.

No indeed....they are antique French opera glasses (circa 1901). I wish I knew more about their history. I found them a few years back in a flea market. I can imagine the elegant women who used them. It's a shame I did not have a pair of long white gloves for the shot. :(

I saw these pink rose petals on the path and it did remind me of a wedding tradition; spreading rose petals is for spreading love - only these petals were getting drenched with rain and that is not a good sign at a wedding ;o)
ODC - SYMBOLIC is the Topic for Friday 29th March 2012
Roses have many more symbolic meanings than love. Roses have their roots in Greek mythology, Christianity and Roman culture.
The rose in Greek mythology was associated with Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Aphrodite is often depicted with roses in her hair in paintings showing her passion and love for Adonis. The rose has symbolic meaning in Christianity.
The rosary is an important Christian symbol of devotion to God or being one with God, just as Mary and Jesus are one with God.
The rose is a symbol of secrets. The term, "sub rosa" means under the rose and dates back to the Roman Empire. During secret meetings, Romans would hang roses over the table where it was known that anything discussed at that table would be kept secret.
The rose is a symbol of the paradox between good and evil or joy and pain, as depicted in the old saying, "Every rose has its thorn."
Even the different colors of roses have symbolic meanings - A red rose symbolizes passion, love, devotion and sacrifice. White roses are for purity and humility. Yellow roses symbolize joy and gladness.
Pink roses are sent to convey admiration, joy or appreciation. They are among the most common roses growing in the wild. The shade of pink can be used to convey different messages. Dark pink roses denote gratitude and are often sent as a thank-you. Light pink roses are used to express admiration and are often sent in sympathy. In general, pink roses are associated with elegance, grace, gentility, perfect happiness, sweet thoughts, first love, healing and innocence.
Week #45 (w/b 17 May) Think Pink - Pink to make the boys wink, pink martinis and even Pink Floyd!! Whatever, we are looking for anything that is wholly pink or has pink within. Pink is considered to be gender specific but that shouldn't get in the way - Think Pink!!

Greetings ya'll! A portrait of my sweet Maltese for you. She just passed her Pets For Life certification for the third time and so she will continue to visit the wonderful patients at Truman Medical Center. She makes people smile. Wouldn't you like a soft, warm, sweet pup like her to visit you if you had to be in the hospital? Me too!
Created this for the next Texture Tuesday with Kim Klassen. The theme is white. Check out the recipe on my blog: jleggphoto.squarespace.com/photography_2/2012/2/24/an-ele...

It has a leather cover and I think it was meant to be a souvenir because the picture is of Boulder Dam and it says Las Vegas, Nev. across the bottom right corner.
These rocks are great places to sit and marvel at the rugged scenery.
Rock formations found out along the Arnhem Hy-way in the Northern Territory - aboriginal sacred lands.
Days of Shooting – Week 5 (w/b 6th August) Seat(s)- Time to take the weight off our feet, this week. Yes, if you can sit on it that’s going to be just right. If you can find someone sitting on that seat then great but if not that’s not a problem ~ any style of seat will work for this week.
Shot for 7 Days of shooting - Texture, and CC Balance. Texture of the brushes and balance between the texture of the bristles vs the metal holders, the brushes vs the silk flowers and the painting in the background.
Such lovely flowers!

The best place in our house for taking photo's, espcially on low light days, is the bathroom :) light tiles and a big skylight. Just perfect for still life shots.
