The cork bound menu at our local winery catches the dying rays of a beautiful sunset through a rapidly diminishing 2013 Cuvee Los Gatos by Testarossa Monterey County Pinot Noir. According to the vintage notes :Cuvee Los Gatos is a special wine made by Testarossa Winery to pay homage to the town of Los Gatos, where the historic winery was built in 1888 and continues to produce wine today

Lots of weird and wonderful goodies found in her local charity shops and kindly sent my way including a second very lucky Racing Champions find. A lot more budget than what i'm used to seeing from this brand but still a very crisp and well cast diecast comparable to a lot of its competitors of the era.
some brief introduction from

"THE STORY
The name Testa Rossa is Italian for Red Head, and refers to the colour that the camshaft covers were painted on the sports racing models. Naturally the modern bearer of the name followed suit with red painted camshaft covers. It made its debut in the glittering surroundings of the Lido nightclub on the Champs Elysées in Paris, on the eve of the 1984 Paris Salon, where invited press and guests were given a gala preview prior to its public launch the following day.
The Pininfarina designed replacement for the Boxer series was visually radically different from its predecessor, although it still featured a mid mounted flat twelve engine as its motive power. Gone was the sharp nosed wedge profile, to be replaced by a much softer rounded front end. The front wings flowed into one of the models most distinctive styling features, the deeply straked door panels that grew in width towards their trailing edge, before blending into very wide rear wings. At the rear, the paired circular tail light arrangement that had been a styling feature for over a decade was gone. In their place was a full width horizontally slatted satin black louvre hiding rectangular combination light units.
The reason for the great rear girth and the body colour straked door louvres, was the twin side mounted water radiators which received their cooling air via the door intakes. The matt black egg crate “grille” in the nose of the car was a dummy to provide a link with Ferrari tradition, bordered by combination driving, side, turn indicator light assemblies, with paired headlights in retractable pods on the upper face of the nose. The repositioning of the radiators provided the benefit of additional luggage space in the nose, useable luggage space being something that had been a shortcoming of the Boxer series. Although the front track was only 12mm greater than that of the 512 BBi, the rear track increased by a massive 105mm, making the car wedge shape in plan rather than in profile."
It's the same year as I was born.

The Ferrari Testarossa is a 12-cylinder mid-engine sports car manufactured by Ferrari, which went into production in 1984 as the successor to the Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer. The Pininfarina-designed car was originally produced from 1984 to 1991.
The Testarossa is a two-door coupe with a fixed roof that premiered at the 1984 Paris Auto Show. All versions of the Testarossa had the power fed through the wheels from a rear-mounted, five-speed manual transmission. The Rear mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout (engine between the axles but behind the cabin) keeps the centre of gravity in the middle of the car, which increases stability and improves the car's cornering ability, and thus results in a standing weight distribution of 40% front: 60% rear.
The Testarossa name, which means "red head" in Italian, comes from the red-painted cam covers on the flat-12 engine. Of course, the double entendre with a red-headed woman was intentional; in fact, Ferrari and Pininfarina regularly use descriptive terms related to a female's body when describing the style of their automobiles.
Cliché, I know, but I like this shot, and I hope you like this shot as well :). I took this shot from a Testarossa.

Using all plastic bodies with a diecast metal baseplate to compensate is certainly not just the preserve of Mattel. Other toy makers have been doing it for decades notably the short-lived range made by a the Portuguese Minia Porta and sold under their Novacar brand. Briefly produced sometime in the 1990's before they were taken over by Majorette they were seen as a fairly decent budget alternative to the usual big boys and even made their way over to the U.K. where I remember seeing them infrequently in discount stores.
This is their Ferrari Testarossa which I suspect was unlicensed but remarkably accurate and indeed pretty crisp in its appearance. Given to me recently as a kind gift its in mint and boxed condition.
Believe it or not the earlier products of Summer are becoming quite collectible. Once the laughing stock of the toy industry with their crude interpretations of real vehicles and cheapo construction, their relative rarity and obscure vehicle choices make them quite desirable.
There is nothing obscure about a Ferrari Testarossa of course, who DIDN'T make one in 1/64 scale! This version was part of their slightly smaller and even more crude series doing without an interior. A recent charity shop find.

Made famous for its role in Miami Vice and Sega’s Out Run, the Testarossa was Ferraris leading supercar in the mid-eighties. Its distinctive side strakes and ultra-wide rear track inspired many other supercar designs and they became a symbol of 1980’s retrograde culture.
The Testarossa was a larger car that accommodated mid-mounted radiators. This helped reduce cockpit heat and also had the effect of making the car much wider at the rear. It also provided more space in the front trunk.
The Testarossa was powered by a 4.9-liter version of Ferrari’s Boxer-12 which was effectively a 180º V12. Producing 390 bhp, 0–60 miles per hour was typically clocked at 5.2 seconds.
Although Testarossa in one of my Ferrari, it still need to be modified and added some style, I just can’t stop modifying these classic super cars!
