The new Test-Bed Telescope 2, a European Space Agency telescope, is housed inside the shiny white dome shown in this picture, at ESO’s La Silla Observatory in Chile. The telescope has now started operations and will assist its northern-hemisphere twin in protecting us from potentially hazardous, near-Earth objects.
The domes of ESO's 0.5 m and the Danish 0.5 m telescopes are visible in the background of this image.

Class 20, 20097 at Crewe, November 1987
20097 was used to haul the slip/brake test transit movement from Derby RTC to Crewe. The Class 20 unusually operating singly, nose end first; on this occasion the Class 20 was replaced with a Class 47, 47113 for the purposes of testing between Crewe and Winsford.
Class 20, 20097 built in 1961 numbered D8097 was withdrawn in 1989 and scrapped at M C Metals in Glasgow during late 1991.

Fisheye view of Epcot's Test Track thrill ride at night. Test Track is probably my favorite ride/attraction in Epcot, albeit I don't think this theme park is necessarily known for its "rides." I used the Nikon 10.5mm DX fisheye for this shot. Nice lens, but it may not be wide-enough to really create that "fisheye" effect.

With new wheels come new problems!
For the redesign of my Ivatt Atlantic I have to test the chassis another time. Again I use blind drivers in the middle which worked for my earlier version so I have no doubts it will work here as well.
New problems:
- the running-surface of the 3D-printed XXL wheels is thinner than that of the BBB XL wheels (just like Lego's blind drivers are thinner to make room for the flanges of the other wheels) which means the mechanism will have to be more precise to keep the wheels on the tracks in curves
- with the drivers being bigger the distance between the drivers' axles is bigger too. To keep the distance to a minimum though it's uneven and instead of 6 stud's it's 6 1/2 studs. With some tricks here and there this shouldn't be too much of a problem though.
The redesign made it necessary to have all wheels (tender and engine) 3D printed. So this engine (if it will be done some day) will only be possible thanks to this technology :)
A further loaded test run around the Carnforth circuit for Bulleid 'Merchant Navy' Class no. 35018 'British India Line' took place on the 7th March 2018. Here the train passes Armistead on the Little North Western line, still showing signs of a continuing problem. Nevertheless, on this occasion, the whole circuit was completed.
Yesterday we looked out our windows and saw people and equipment on the Sheboygan River.. I thought it might be Coast Guard practicing ice rescue, something they do annually. When I went to check it out, I discovered that they were ice fishermen. They said they had tested the ice and it appeared to be 6"thick. The less than cautious fishermen were very fortunate not to need an ice rescue team.
