Some camera and lenses have production defect on it which is called “Front/Back Focus”. Front/Back Focus is the defect (whether it comes from the camera or the lens) that the focus is fall on the back or in front of the object you’re shooting at. If you wonder why every shots you take seems blurry although your eyes is fine and the camera auto-focusing is working fine, then maybe your gear has the Back/Front Focus defect.
There are several ways to test the focus. If you Google it, you’ll find many tips about it, some even provide you with the ‘focus test chart’. Here’s one of it: photo.net/learn/focustest/
But the easiest way is to use 3 batteries like the picture above. Put the batteries about 3-5 cm among each other on the table in the sufficient light environment. Take your camera and use the auto-focusing aimed at the head of the middle one. If the result shows that the head of the middle battery is indeed sharp/focus, then your gear is fine. But if it turns out that the sharp/focus area is on the head of the front or back battery, then most likely your gear has the defect. Consult the store or the authorized dealer of the camera to check on it.
If you try it with different lenses and the results are the same, that means it’s the camera that has the defect. But if you try with another lens and the result is fine, that means the previous lens you use may have the defect. Hope this help.
This was a light test after I done the regular make-up student shots for Paintiton. Mandi came along after and she was kind enough to stand in so I could try a few different setups. She was busy txting anyway.

One part of a new screenprint, printing on some scrap paper with a random color ink just to look for errors- there aren't many! I should have a new edition of prints within a week.
Posted the submarine prints to etsy as well:

This was a test run before I made one up with the stenciled design element. This pattern looked easy yet I had a lot of trouble with the construction. I think the main problem was with the fabric - the main fabric was so soft and nice but also had a lot of give and slip, whereas the ribbing was heavy with little stretch. The cuffs in particular did not turn out well. In the future with this ribbing I'll need to add extra length. Also I'm not sure I like how curvy the raglan curve appears, and the topstitching emphasizes it so I may skip it next time. Lastly this also was big on my son, even though I've been sewing 92 for all the patterns on him lately - mainly it was the neck width, the opening was almost coming off his shoulders. Overall, not a huge success but I think it still looks ok and is wearable, so all's well that ends ok.
Testing out the beauty dish plus BOWENS bracket mount I picked up from GadgetInifity - with a Nikon SB900 as the light source
Wanted to test objects on a white background to get that seamless look.
Set a grey card as WB and metered off the card, locked meter reading then shot the object. Came out ok.
Did the same with a pen though and the pen came out overexposed... WHY?!

As the name says it. I was out to test what the polarizing filter would do to the picture. Very dynamic.

Quick tests between 70-200VR and 70-200IS. Results were surprising. 70-200IS focuses much faster, and the IS was more stable at 200mm. The VR lens was very sharp and benefitted from wider depth of field on the cropped D300 sensor. The DOF on the 5D's FF sensor is very shallow. The 70-200VR was an awesome range on a D300. The resulting range was 105-300mm.
