Me and my particularly talented friend Cat (of Catillest) have decided to try and get involved in all the interesting art stuff that’s happening in Croydon. So, we’ve started documenting the activity around the newly formed ‘Arts Quarter’ - which is right in the middle of things, just off of the high street and the clocktower. As far as I know, the Arts Quarter is the brainchild of Kevin Zuchowski-Morrison. Kevin’s the creator-curator of the RISE Gallery - which can be found in St. George’s Walk. If you're looking for it, you can't miss it.
There have apparently been over 120 paintings so far, and these are going to be rotated (i'm not sure how often). The whole thing was started off by a takeover from Ayaan Bulale's Femme Fierce. Femme Fierce is made up of about 35 artists - they actually broke a Guinness record for 'the largest spray paint mural created by a team'. They did this to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer Care. And ain't that somethin'?
The Arts Quarter project faced an initial hurdle in the form of three (?) blokes who kept tagging over all the art. Kevin and said guys have apparently come to an understanding now, and I guess everybody's hoping that things are gonna stay… unedited. I'm not a street artist but the idea of respecting the work of your fellow spray painters and hip hop artisans seems like a…kinda fundamental thing.
Asides from Femme Fierce, other artists who've taken include Eska & Morgazmik, Decolife, Dan Kitchener, Artista, Mr Cenz and Gnasher. A lot of people are making comparisons to East London - Shoreditch, Hackney Wick etc. - I'd beg to differ, no comparisons are needed. Croydon's always had a strong scene, all of its own: shitloads of graffiti (usually not of the …sanctioned kind) plus the kind of atmosphere and urban culture that you can only develop in a concrete wasteland (OK, so it's not ALL wasteland). And dubstep was invented here - I saw that with my own eyes!
Re: the artist in some of the shots. We ran into this guy and his girlfriend working on one of the walls in St. George's Walk. Softspoken, he told us that he’d been diagnosed with autism and osteoarthritis (in his writing hand) and that 'didn’t rate himself much' as an artist. But he also said that he was 'getting on a bit’ and that it is never too late to express yourself in some way or another #DontDieWithYourMusicStillInYou
Zander isn't your typical wizard.One he's an exchange student from America and two,he's really talented when it comes to learning new spells . Deprimo= very powerful wind that can loosen and/or soften a variety of things; it can also be used to detach objects.
Evanesco (Vanishing Spell) = Makes the target vanish.
Expecto Patronum (Patronus Charm )=Conjures an incarnation of the caster's innermost positive feelings, such as joy, hope, or the desire to survive, known as a Patronus. His is a great Timberwolf ( Favorite )
Expelliarmus (Disarming Charm) =
Produces a jet of scarlet light. This spell is used to disarm another wizard
Expulso =A spell that causes an object to explode. The force of the explosion may depend on the intent of the caster. ( Favorite)
Finite Incantatem = Negates many spells or the effects of many spells.
Flame-Freezing Charm = Causes fire to become harmless to those caught in it, creating only a gentle, tickling sensation instead of burns.
Freezing Charm = Renders target immobile
Geminio = Creates a duplicate of any object upon which it is cast. As revealed by the goblin Griphook, any copies created are worthless. The duplicate lasts several hours. Magical properties, at least of a Horcrux, are not copied.
Gemino Curse = Whenever an object affected by this curse is touched, it duplicates itself into many useless copies to hide the original. To add confusion and eventually fill the surrounding area with copies, the copies also duplicate.
Gripping Charm= Used to help someone grip something with more effectiveness
Hover Charm = An object is levitated off the ground and moved according to the caster.
Impervius (Impervius Charm) = This spell makes something repel (literally, become impervious to) substances and outside forces, including water.
Incendio = Produces fire

Young talented students from prestigious universities and top business schools met at the ESCP Europe's London Campus on 22nd & 23rd February to participate in the 2019 School’s Energy Trading Challenge.
Jointly organised by our MSc in Energy Management (MEM) students, in collaboration with Smart Global, ESCP Europe, and its Research Centre for Energy Management (RCEM), this year’s challenge sponsored by Glencore - one of the world’s largest global diversified natural resource companies and a major producer and marketer of more than 90 commodities, with 90 offices in over 50 countries- provided an excellent platform for students to learn key insights on trading oil and gas products.
London Campus Dean Prof. Dr Simon Mercado, Prof. Dr Kostas Andriosopoulos, Executive Director of the RCEM and Academic Director of ESCP Europe's Energy Management Programmes, and Luke Horswell, Director of Smart Global delivered the welcomed 205 attendees representing 23 universities at this truly international competition.

Here is Mom, working up to do her head stand that she does in yoga (we didn't catch a picture of her when she went all the way up) and the boys in the background walking across the screen on their hands.
Ernie did a front handspring (I think) and Ray a cartwheel. I have pictures that show the sequence but that's too many to post on here and they don't make sense if not viewed in close succession.
I think it was the first time they got to show off the stuff they learned from gymnastics. Han did quite some break dancing in other performances that evening. Hehe. He is so cool.

I got talking to the chap in this photo whom I will refer to as Mr Jiver. He gave a lesson in how to ask people about getting their picture taken. I have to say he was very polite and put his point of view across very eloquently. He's had experiences of groups of photographers coming down in the tunnel and sticking lenses in his face whilst he's doing his work. I tried to explain to him that the only reasons I would not ask his permission first would be mainly down not wanting to disturb him whilst he was working. Also I'm still a bit shy in approaching random people as you don't know what kind of reaction you will get. This guy also warned me it was safer to be in groups down in the tunnel. So next time i'll come with someone.
