Pictured at the A.E. Wood Coliseum Monday night are two of the MC Lady Choctaws hoopsters from metro Jackson. They are: sophomore Tori Earnhart of Madison and junior Kristen Sampson of Jackson. Both are guards. Tori played basketball at the Veritas School and Kristen played at Meridian Community College before coming to MC.

William "Billy" Sing
31st Battalion, of Clermont, Queensland, who enlisted on 26 October 1914 and returned to Australia on 21 July 1918.
William “Billy” Sing was born in 1886 to an English mother and Chinese father. He and his two sisters were brought up in Clermont and Proserpine, in rural Queensland. Life on the land was tough, and from a young age Billy had to help his parents with their market garden and milk deliveries. He was also a talented horse rider and skilled at shooting.
When war broke out in 1914, Billy rushed to sign up. As one of the first to enlist, Billy was not subjected to the degree of later resistance against recruiting non-white Australians into the AIF, and he was accepted into the 5th Light Horse Regiment. He was sent to Egypt in December 1914 and onto Gallipoli in May 1915.
On Gallipoli, Billy was given the nickname “the Murderer” or “the Assassin” for his skill as a sniper. Fellow soldier Ion Idriess described him as, “a little chap, very dark, with a jet black moustache and a goatee beard. A picturesque looking mankiller. He is the crack sniper of the Anzacs.” Every morning in the darkness before dawn Billy would find a place to hide and watch over the Turkish soldiers in their trenches. Waiting patiently with a “spotter”, usually Tom Sheehan, or Ion Idriess, he would wait for an enemy soldier to come into view. To avoid becoming a target of the Turkish snipers, the Australians would stay in their position until nightfall. The ANZAC war diary for 23 October 1915 states:
Our premier sniper, Trooper Sing, 2nd L.H., yesterday accounted for his 199th Turk. Every one of this record is vouched for by an independent observer, frequently an officer who observes through a telescope.
Billy’s fame spread beyond the soldiers at Gallipoli, and his tally was written about in the Australian, British and American press.
The Turkish Army was also aware of Billy’s reputation. In an effort to eliminate him, they brought in their own crack shot, a man known to the Australians as “Abdul the Terrible”.[1] It is thought Abdul came very close to fulfilling his mission. In August 1915, a single bullet, fired from the Turkish side, passed through Sheehan’s telescope and through his hands, mouth, and cheek before hitting Billy in the shoulder.
In the end, it was Billy who shot and killed Abdul. The Turkish army immediately retaliated, aiming its heavy artillery at Billy’s hiding position and completely destroying it. Fortunately for the Australian sniper and his spotter, they had already evacuated to their unit trenches.
For his efforts on Gallipoli, Billy was Mentioned in Despatches by General Sir Ian Hamilton, and awarded the British Distinguished Conduct Medal in 1916 for:
Conspicuous gallantry from May to September 1915 at Anzac as a sniper. His courage and skill were most marked and he was responsible for a very large number of casualties among the enemy, no risk being too great for him to take.[1]
The Australian soldiers were evacuated from Gallipoli in December 1915, and Billy was sent first for training in England and then to fight in France as part of the 31st Battalion.
The type of warfare on the Western Front, was different to that on Gallipoli. It is unlikely that, as a sniper, Billy spent much of his time on the battlefield,his skills were put to good use. In 1917, he was recommended for, though not awarded the Military Medal for his actions leading an anti-sniper fighting patrol at Polygon Wood, in Belgium. He was again Mentioned in Dispatches for gallantry, this time by the Commander of I ANZAC Corps, General Birdwood, and in 1918, awarded the Belgian Croix de Guerre.
Billy’s health suffered during his service, and he was frequently hospitalised to treat ailments ranging from serious infections to influenza. He was wounded on a number of occasions, and one gunshot wound to the leg caused him problems for years.
In 1917, while recuperating from illness in Britain, Billy married Elizabeth Stewart, a 21-year-old waitress from Scotland. Little is known about her or her marriage, and it is not even certain that she accompanied him back to Australia.
Billy returned to Australia in July 1918 as a submarine guard on board the troopship SS Boonah. Shortly afterwards he was permanently discharged as a result of being unfit for duty due to ongoing chest problems. He returned to Proserpine, Queensland, to a hero’s welcome, which included the presentation of a purse of sovereigns from well-wishers. Whether or not Elizabeth had accompanied Billy back to Australia, they were permanently separated by the time he took up a Soldier Settlement farm a few years after his return. This venture failed, as did an attempt to strike it lucky in the Miclere gold fields near his property in Clermont.
In 1942 Billy moved to Brisbane to be near his surviving sister, Beatrice.
A year later Billy Sing died of heart failure at the age of 57. All that remained of this one-time famous sniper was a miner’s hut (worth around £20), and 5 shillings found in his room in a boarding house. There was no sign of his medals or awards from the war. Billy was buried at Lutwyche Cemetery in Brisbane. His headstone highlights his skills as a sniper, and reads:
His incredible accuracy contributed greatly to the preservation of the lives of those with whom he served during a war always remembered for countless acts of valour and tragic carnage.
This is a photograph of Ellis Kelsey, the talented and prolific Eastbourne amateur photographer, sitting at his organ in his home in Upper Avenue, Eastbourne.
He took this 'selfie' by setting up his camera, starting the exposure, then sitting down pretending to read a book and then getting up again to stop the exposure. This can be seen by the ghostly organ keys appearing to pass in front of him. Exposures in low light and with slow emulsion coatings on the glass plates took a long time i.e measured in minutes not fractions of a second.
E.K. was a piano and organ teacher who trained at the Royal College of Music.

His work covers most subjects and features Eastbourne, Richmond Surrey, Isle of Axholme, Sussex Villages, the European Tour sites, low-light photography, early colour photography, stereography and much more. He wrote many articles on the subject of low light photography, exhibited 99 of his photo's at the Royal Photographic Society Exhibitions and won prizes for his work.

simple circles and half circles with colors that go very well together...

Charlie Brown Superstar (aka Brett Fuller) has been spinning records in Huntington's most popular nightclubs since

He currently holds residency at the V Club, where he DJ's the area's most popular and longest-running dance night, New Moon on Mondays, mixing the best new wave, rock and pop that the 80's had to offer. He has had the honor of performing with such nationally recognized recording artists as Arrested Development and Electric Six.
Charlie Brown Superstar is also one of the first House music dj's in the area and was the resident at the legendary local venue Gyrationz (the first club to feature an all EDM format) He is known for his marathon sets of Deep House and Electro.
In addition, Charlie Brown Superstar is an LBA Records recording artist and has been composing original electronic music since 1999. He did sampling for and toured with the popular local rock band, Chum, during the mid-90's and is currently a member of the critically acclaimed drone/doom metal band, Hyatari. His influences include everything from Mercury Rev, Gary Numan, Curtis Mayfield, H.G. Lewis, robots and even B-movies.

Sean is my multitalented brother-in-law. He knows how to make people laugh; how to make them feel good about themselves; how to make friends out of strangers.
We are in a Chinese restuarant. I am about to take Sean out to buy dress clothes for a wedding. The father of the bride is a collegue of mine but Sean knows the whoe family better than I do.
Sean's main criteria in selecting a sport coat, slacks, shirt, shoes, etc. was how much he would look like Michael Jackson, his fallen hero. Every pair of shoes he tried on had to pass the "moon-walk" test.

Five talented shooters from the Dallas area stand under a magnificent tree on the shore of White Rock Lake during the first ever Dallas Area Meetup (DAM) of Flickr fans.

On a Friday night when the Rosman Tigers took on a talented Cherokee HS football team, plans were already in motion for a great night throughout the town. Capping things off with a 46-22 dismantling of the Braves only added to the joy and festivity of a crisp, fall evening in Rosman.
Senior Night brought out balloons, painted Tiger Paws all over Silversteen Stadium, and recognition of all the seniors who joined their family members on the field for a special farewell and balloon release on behalf of cancer fighters who are sorely missed or continuing their battle.
The PINK OUT was another celebration and remembrance, as part of Brittany Kirby's senior project. Kirby devised the front logo on the pink T-shirts seen here in memory of her grandmother. Part of the proceeds from shirt sales and 50/50 that night are going to care for cancer patients at Duke Cancer Center, where her grandmother was cared for before her passing earlier in 2014. Also, a part of the proceeds will go to Relay for Life.
The Tigers football team and coaches wore pink socks and T-shirts as part of the PINK OUT celebration. Cheerleaders wore T-shirts, plus extra headgear and ribbons to mark Senior Night as well.
At halftime, Hall of Fame candidates and family members were brought to the field to be inducted during the third annual recognition ceremony. In all five categories voted on and announced each year, the new inductees were:
James Bryan "Jimmy" Meece - Inspirational Experiences
Lee Powell - Career Success
Mildred Powell - Athletic Achievement
E.F. Tilson - Contributions to RHS
Chris Whitmire - Public Service
Tawny McCoy received the award on behalf of the late Mr. Tilson, and Kim Meece on behalf of her departed husband, Jimmy.
Finally, the band ushered in a Senior Night surprise when Avengers Iron Man and Captain America appeared as part of the superheroes-themed production.
On top of all this, Rosman HS FCA invited the entire community to their 4th Annual Block Party in front of the high school. Hot dogs, cold and hot drinks, s'mores and bonfires, all featured in an enjoyable and festive evening to celebrate the Tigers victory and many emotional events of the night.

This young boy had so much ... what is it called when someone engages with a crowd almost immediately just with his banter? It took a matter of minutes to pull this crowd on all sides - before he and his partner did anything. Two very talented young people looking to raise funds to participate in the Fringe festival in a few months time.

Presenter by Síle Seoige, the search for the most talented family in Ireland continues as another 8 families take to the stage to battle it out in front of the judges and book a place in the quarter-final.
The judges, Aonghus MaAnally, Sibéal Davitt & Pádraig O Sé will be faced with picking one winner from the show, but who can hold their nerve and impress them?
Lining up this week are:
Muintir Linneacháin from Cork. The 3 brothers Donal, Conor and James along with their sister, Jayme will be out to impress the judges with some fast paced traditional music.
Next up are 2 sisters Kerry and Sian with their half sister Rosie, otherwise known as Ceol Binn (Sweet Music). From Wicklow, the 3 young women will perform medley of California Dreams & I Think We’re Alone Now.
Muintir Uí Mhórdha from Offaly comprise of father Gary and his 5 daughters, Laura (12), Niamh (10), Linda (8), Ellen (5), Kaitlin (3). Dubbed the Von Traps of the programme, they will be giving us their take on the classic Edelwise from Sound of Music
The Quinn family, otherwise known as Clann Lír, is made up from 6 sisters & 1 brother. From Galway, they will be hoping to dance their way into the quarter-final. Interestingly, the one male participant in this family only learned to Irish dance when he heard his sisters were taking part in the show!
Laura & Gráinne Kavanagh from Longford are up next. They will be singing a the traditional song Ae Fond Kiss. But will they get the kiss of death from the judges?
Brother and sister Mark & Niamh O’Neill from Tallaght will be hoping that lady luck is smiling on them in the show as they sing Lucky by Jason Marz
Brother and sister Lauren & Dillion McBride aged 11 and 12 respectively, will bring a bit of rock and roll to the proceedings with their version of Everlong by the Foo-Fighters. They have previously performed at the Electric Picnic and have over 100,000 youtube hits to their name.

On a Friday night when the Rosman Tigers took on a talented Cherokee HS football team, plans were already in motion for a great night throughout the town. Capping things off with a 46-22 dismantling of the Braves only added to the joy and festivity of a crisp, fall evening in Rosman.
Senior Night brought out balloons, painted Tiger Paws all over Silversteen Stadium, and recognition of all the seniors who joined their family members on the field for a special farewell and balloon release on behalf of cancer fighters who are sorely missed or continuing their battle.
The PINK OUT was another celebration and remembrance, as part of Brittany Kirby's senior project. Kirby devised the front logo on the pink T-shirts seen here in memory of her grandmother. Part of the proceeds from shirt sales and 50/50 that night are going to care for cancer patients at Duke Cancer Center, where her grandmother was cared for before her passing earlier in 2014. Also, a part of the proceeds will go to Relay for Life.
The Tigers football team and coaches wore pink socks and T-shirts as part of the PINK OUT celebration. Cheerleaders wore T-shirts, plus extra headgear and ribbons to mark Senior Night as well.
At halftime, Hall of Fame candidates and family members were brought to the field to be inducted during the third annual recognition ceremony. In all five categories voted on and announced each year, the new inductees were:
James Bryan "Jimmy" Meece - Inspirational Experiences
Lee Powell - Career Success
Mildred Powell - Athletic Achievement
E.F. Tilson - Contributions to RHS
Chris Whitmire - Public Service
Tawny McCoy received the award on behalf of the late Mr. Tilson, and Kim Meece on behalf of her departed husband, Jimmy.
Finally, the band ushered in a Senior Night surprise when Avengers Iron Man and Captain America appeared as part of the superheroes-themed production.
On top of all this, Rosman HS FCA invited the entire community to their 4th Annual Block Party in front of the high school. Hot dogs, cold and hot drinks, s'mores and bonfires, all featured in an enjoyable and festive evening to celebrate the Tigers victory and many emotional events of the night.
