The talented young Iowans who make up the Learning Council met with Gov. Branstad on May 15. The Learning Council is a student advisory group that brought a refreshing perspective and meaningful recommendations for improving Iowa's schools. Eighteen students from large and small schools across Iowa were named to the advisory group, which convened in 2012 to discuss issues that impact students and schools. "He is talented, very talented, but has no brains," was Geoff Boycott's on-air verdict after Virender Sehwag's attempt to hook a ball from outside off stump found the fielder at deep square leg and triggered a first-innings collapse at the SSC.
Sehwag's response to a question regarding his approach after his maverick innings - a 15th Test century at a strike-rate of 104.91 - was deadpan. "How can I stop the way I've played?" he said. "Yes, there is pressure if wickets fall and you think 'What if I go for a shot and get out too?' But if that happens you're never going to score runs."
After two batting collapses in the first Test it was imperative that India got a solid start. Sehwag provided that by using a simple mantra: if the ball is there to be hit, hit it. Circumstances rarely affect Sehwag and he put the pedal to the metal. A whip off the pads past midwicket got him started, a wild sweep that was unsuccessfully referred didn't stall him, and when he charged Ajantha Mendis and swung him over cow corner for six, Sehwag was at full throttle.
The stand-out feature was the effortless manner in which Sehwag handled Mendis, who was virtually unplayable in Colombo. The key, in his own simple words, was that here Sehwag "picked him [Mendis] off the track, from where the ball pitched", something only he and and Sachin Tendulkar have managed to do in this series.
When Mendis tossed the ball up on middle and off, Sehwag smothered the spin, and when the bowler drifted on to middle, he went back and turned it fine. If it spun in sharply, Sehwag adjusted his back leg and brought his bat down quickly to kill the ball. Sehwag also picked the two-fingered googly and moved back to cut or punch through the off-side. He failed to beat cover with the drive once but replayed the shot two balls later with more power and placed it to perfection. Mendis' first four overs cost 29.
Sehwag accelerated and yet remained in control with Gautam Gambhir, fleet-footed against spin, in the passenger seat. There were cracks at one end of the pitch and Nuwan Kulasekera asked a few questions but Sehwag steered clear of them. He cut Muttiah Muralitharan's first ball, a doosra from around the stumps, to reach his half-century off 50 balls. His strike rate, like a speedometer, fluctuated from 60 to 98 and beyond. India's 100 came from 115 balls and Sehwag's contribution was 59.
Like Sri Lanka did at the SSC, he and Gambhir ran hard, hustling for the second, and constantly looking for scoring opportunities. Sehwag and Aakash Chopra, another Delhi team-mate, did this effectively during the majority of their 19 partnerships, notably in Australia in 2003-04. Some of today's singles were risky but the intent was obvious and it frustrated Sri Lanka.
In the over before lunch, Sehwag put his arm around Gambhir's shoulder and had a word. Gambhir reached his fifty off the next ball and a beaming Sehwag rushed to congratulate him. When Sehwag dabbed a single behind point to raise the 150 partnership, he punched gloves with Gambhir as they crossed. How many batsmen can power a side to 150 for 0 at lunch? The camaraderie was plain to see.
After a four-hour rain delay, Mendis tested Gambhir with his variation but at the other end Sehwag disdainfully smashed Vaas over cow corner off his second ball after the resumption. Two balls later he played a booming straight drive to reach his century, which he celebrated with a proud wave of the bat to the dressing room and an embrace from his partner. His 15th hundred took only 87 balls with 15 fours and two sixes but the message was deeper.
At the MCG, in 2003-04, India were 311 for 3 but collapsed for 366 after Sehwag was dismissed for 195 at the end of the first day. In Adelaide earlier this year Sehwag scored 151 out of India's 269 in the second innings. Today, Sehwag had driven India to a position of strength at 167 for 0 before four wickets fell in 20 balls for 11 runs. As he had done against England in Galle during the winter, Chaminda Vaas, rejuvenated after the rain delay, struck twice in an over. Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly were dismissed with the score on 178 and the morning's work had come undone.
"I didn't notice any change in my batting after the four-hour break in play," Sehwag said. "Every batsman has his own mindset with which he plays, but I just played my shots." Even as stumps approached, Sehwag relied on his base instinct. Mendis went around the stumps and Sehwag used his feet to smash him down the ground and hit two consecutive fours through cover.
Sehwag had fulfilled his responsibility of providing a sound start but the collapse meant that he had to hold the innings together. His unshakeable approach did not change. "I am not satisfied because there's plenty left in this game," was Sehwag's closing statement. "If I can convert this into a double-century or more tomorrow, get India above 400-500, apply pressure on Sri Lanka, then I will be satisfied."
Crushed in Colombo, India arrived in Galle needing to find a way to bounce back. Only a vivid imagination could have conceived of a fightback without it being led by Sehwag. Like the white breakers of the Indian Ocean, lashing across the rocks in the background of the Galle International Stadium, Sehwag has injected life into a one-sided series.
He has brains alright, and he's used them rather well.

Vaswati Misra
Vaswati’s love for dance began as a young child of 7, she received training first under the tutelage of Smt Reba Vidyarthi and then had the good fortune to be groomed by the great kathak maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj. An immensely talented dancer by the age of ten Vaswati was already dancing on stage. Performing both as a soloist as well as with her husband, dancer Krishan Mohan Misra she was acclaimed both for her command over the technique of the dance form as well as her expressieve qualities.
A successful choreographer and a soloist of repute Vaswati performed in prestigious festivals like Baba Allaudin Khan Samaroh, Bindadin Kathak Mahotsav, Khajuraho, Orchha Mahotsava, Nishagandhi Festival, Sangeet Natak Akademi’s 50th celebration, Qutub Festival and travelled to U.S.A, Japan, South Africa, latin America, the Middle East, Mexico and entire Europe.
In 1979 Vaswati joined the Sriram Bhartiya Kala Kendra as a teacher and was there for eight years, in 1989 she held the post of Kathak Guru at the Kathak Kendra, New Delhi was there again for eight years, in 1997 she resigned from Kathak Kendra and two years later, combining her passion for performance and education she set up an arts education centre the Pandit Shambhu Maharaj Kathak Academy as the educational wing of Dhwani, continued to grow with additions of a repertory and Zaroorat, a school for the underprivileged.

Dhwani is a cultural organization founded by leading proponents of Kathak, Shri Krishan Mohan Misra and Vaswati Misra in 1984.
It seeks to preserve and promote the performing and fine arts traditions of India by organizing choreographed dance, theatrical and musical performances of the highest caliber.
Trained under the auspices of the maestro- Pt Birju Maharaj himself, Vaswati Misra has perfected the technique and grammar of Kathak through her career spanning 40 years. Her choreographed pieces have been widely acclaimed by audiences and connoisseurs across the globe. Over the years, Vaswati Misra and Dhwani has built a reputation for collaborating with a diverse profile of artists and performers- from indigenous and folk artists to children from challenging backgrounds, from the greatest maestros, writers and actors of our times to young debutants- many of whom have been nurtured into accomplished performers in their own right.
Each performance by Dhwani is crafted to perfect the interpretation of sound and beat, the balance of strong yet lyrical body movements, powerful foot-work and subtle expressions. They are unique in their highly contemporary and aesthetic interpretation of a very traditional form.
Dhwani is empanelled with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, the Ministry of Culture and CID UNESCO.
Concept Note
Founded by dancer and choreographer, Vaswati Misra, The DHwani Repertory is made up of dancers whose versatility, virtuosity and dynamic movement quality, owes itself to the training imparted by Vaswati Misra. Their performances resonate with a long history of cultural traditions and are the result of explorations into elements that make Kathak the dance form that it is. Herself, an accomplished artiste of the Lucknow Gharana of Kathak, Vaswati finds inspiration for her choreography within the structural boundaries of Kathak as it has grown and developed over the countries.
Concepts like Bhaav bataana (the expression of a mood, seated on stage) Padhant, (where the mood and feeling inherent in mnemonic syllables are explored) or forms based on traditional musical genres like gats, taraaanaas and kavits are recreated in a matter that often fuse the perceived boundaries between dance and music, the traditional and the contemporary.
At the Ananya Dance Festival, The Dhwani Repertory will present an eclectic selection of some of its shorter works as well as some excerpts from production like Jeevan and Kalpataru.

He currently holds residency at the V Club, where he DJ's the area's most popular and longest-running dance night, New Moon on Mondays, mixing the best new wave, rock and pop that the 80's had to offer. He has had the honor of performing with such nationally recognized recording artists as Arrested Development and Electric Six.
Charlie Brown Superstar is also one of the first House music dj's in the area and was the resident at the legendary local venue Gyrationz (the first club to feature an all EDM format) He is known for his marathon sets of Deep House and Electro.
In addition, Charlie Brown Superstar is an LBA Records recording artist and has been composing original electronic music since 1999. He did sampling for and toured with the popular local rock band, Chum, during the mid-90's and is currently a member of the critically acclaimed drone/doom metal band, Hyatari. His influences include everything from Mercury Rev, Gary Numan, Curtis Mayfield, H.G. Lewis, robots and even B-movies.

The legendary idol of the French cinema Gérard Philipe (1922–1959) was adored for his good looks, but he was also a very talented actor. He played roles as diverse as Faust and Modigliani, and he was sought out by France's preeminent directors for his versatility and professionalism.
Gérard Philipe (sometimes written as Philippe) was born Gérard Philip in Cannes, France, in 1922. In 1940, Gérard left school, and his parents wanted him to become a lawyer. His mother noticed that he was only interested in acting, but his father was against the idea. Gérard's father, a successful businessman, was a right-wing extremist and collaborated with the Nazis. After the war, he was forced into exile in Spain to escape a death sentence. Gérard himself was, his whole life, a staunch social liberal, politically wise. Actor Claude Dauphin introduced the young Philipe in 1942 to the stage. One of his first parts was as the angel in 'Sodome et Gomorrhe' by Jean Giraudoux in 1943. Director Marc Allégret decided that he showed some promise and gave him a small part in his film Les petites du quai aux fleurs / The Girls From the Quai aux Fleurs (Marc Allégret, 1944) starring Odette Joyeux. With the support of his admirer Jean Cocteau, he entered the Paris Conservatory, where, under the tutelage of Georges Le Roy, he discovered his passion for live theatre. In 1945, he received rave reviews for his performance in the stage production of Albert Camus’ 'Caligula'. This success further opened the doors to the cinema. His first leading part in Le pays sans étoiles / Land Without Stars (Georges Lacombe, 1946) opposite Jany Holt got so many favourable reviews that he became a star.
In 1947, Gérard Philipe exploded upon the European film scene in Le diable au corps / Devil in the Flesh (Claude Autant-Lara, 1947), playing Francois Jaubert, a callow youth in love with much older and very married Micheline Presle. Superstardom followed almost immediately: female filmgoers doted upon Philippe's sensitive, handsome features and strapping physique, while men identified with his soulfulness and introspection. Next, he would take on prominent roles in such classic films as Une si jolie petite plage / Such a Pretty Little Beach (Yves Allégret, 1949), and La beauté du diable / Beauty and the Devil (René Clair, 1950) as Faust. He was an international success as the tongue-in-cheek titular swashbuckler Fanfan la Tulipe / Fan-Fan the Tulip (Christian-Jaque, 1952), one of the most popular historical-adventure films made in France. At French Films, James Travers reviews: "Not only is the film impeccably made, with lavish production values, stunning cinematography and impressively choreographed fight scenes, but it has a timeless quality which will no doubt ensure it will remain a popular classic for years to come. Philipe excels in this film in what is regarded by many as his finest film role, the indefatigable womaniser and agile swordsman Fanfan la Tulipe. Philipe is simply brilliant in the role, tackling the numerous swordfights and Henri Jeanson’s sparkling dialogue with equal relish." He appeared with such great stars of the European cinema as Italian beauty Gina Lollobrigida in Les belles de nuit / Beauties of the Night (René Clair, 1952), with Michèle Morgan in both Les orgueilleux / The Proud Ones (Yves Allégret, 1953) and Les grandes manœuvres / The Grand Maneuver (René Clair, 1955). In 1956, Philipe starred in and directed a filmization of the old folk tale Till Eulenspiegel, Les Aventures de Till L'Espiègle / Bold Adventure (Gérard Philipe, Joris Ivens, 1956). The French-East-German coproduction was not a success. He simultaneously pursued his stage career, with a keen involvement in the Théatre National de Paris, which would endure up until his death. Whilst working at the TNP, Philipe, a strong believer in egalitarianism, would draw the same salary as junior actors. He would also become president of the French actors' union, actively promoting the rights of actors.
Gérard Philipe continued his string of film successes throughout the 1950s. Among these films were the Fyodor Dostoevsky adaptation Le joueur / The Gambler (Claude Autant-Lara, 1958) with Liselotte Pulver, and Les liaisons dangereuses / Dangerous Liaisons (Roger Vadim, 1959) opposite Jeanne Moreau. In 1959, doctors told Philippe that he had liver cancer. On 25 November that year, while working on Luis Buñuel's Le Fievre Monte a El Pao / Fever Mounts at El Pao (Luis Buñuel, 1959), he died at the peak of his popularity. He was just 36 years old. The news provoked an immediate and intense outpouring of grief. His early death elevated him to a near-legendary status in France. Since 1951, Philipe has been married to actress and writer Nicole Fourcade, with whom he had two children: writer and actor Anne-Marie Philipe (1954) and Olivier Philipe (1957). Nicole adopted the pseudonym Anne Philipe and wrote two books about her husband, 'Souvenirs' (1960) and 'Le Temps d'un soupir' (1963, No Longer Than a Sigh). In 1961, Gérard's portrait appeared on a French commemorative postage stamp. There is a film festival named in his honour as well as several theatres, schools and colleges in various parts of France. He was also very popular in Germany, and a Berlin theatre has been named after him.

Part of a set of photographs documenting some parts of the varied Brighton White Night / Nuit Blanche. The celebration was held on the night of 24/25 October 2009, the date that the clocks "go back" an hour (a change from British Summer Time to Greenwich Mean Time - a daylight saving measure).
White Nights were originally a northern latitude midsummer all night drinking festivals in places like Saint Petersburg (where the summer nights are so short that it never really gets dark). More recently - probably originating in Berlin and Paris - and spreading throught Europe (and then subsequently cities world wide) - the idea has spread as an Autumn or Winter arts based festival.
In french the expression "nuit blanche" is used to describe a night without sleep - either through partying - or just because of insomnia.

it has been a while since the last time that I've posted something in here.
this painting was a little bit of a struggle,the hard part for me was the Textured wall on the right.
I started This painting a couple of months ago but didn't have the courage to work in the texture,I've never done anything like that...
I actually had to crop the painting because some of the texture didn't look right.
I used William F. Martin photo that was posted in the PMP website...
