… the entrance to their foxhole is right behind that fence under a couple of gnarled roots. He’s just making sure I’m not trespassing while Priscilla is away on a scavenger hunt :-)
a foggy day in the cemetery
The fact that the cemetery, an oasis of tranquility a stone's throw from the busy Thiemsbrug intersection, still exists thanks to Frederika ter Horst, a wealthy single lady from Deldensestraat who, after her death in 1912, left her entire fortune to maintain the burial place. "The Communal Maintenance Association was founded then", says Marinus, who was the funeral director at the Oldenzaalsestraat cemetery for 16 years. A statue of her is a reminder of her good deed. The old wharf at the tiny settlement of Kinloch, the head of Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown, New Zealand. From the 1860s Lake Wakatipu steamers brought stock, supplies and visitors from Queenstown to Kinloch at the head of the lake (around 50km or 30 miles). It was not until 1962 when a road was completed that the service was disbanded.

The lake at Nymphenburg Schloss, near Munich, provides good reflections in the morning. A white swan adds to the scene.
Having seen the spectacular old Methodist Church (Uniting) in Ross, built in 1885, I thought I would try to give it a more dramatic look. As you know we have already seen how this church from one angle looks very similar to the famous Church at Auvers painted by Vincent van Gogh.
That sky was quite dramatic all afternoon, so making it a feature of this shot was very important. I've called the picture "The Spire" and had in mind William Golding's novel of the same name (1964). It can be described as "a dark and powerful portrait of one man's will", and deals with the construction of the 404-foot high spire loosely based on the famous Salisbury Cathedral.
The Koppelpoort is a medieval gate in the Dutch city of Amersfoort, province of Utrecht. Completed around 1425, it combines land and water-gates, and is part of the second city wall of Amersfoort, which was constructed between 1380 and 1450.
The gate was built between 1380 and 1425 as part of the second city wall. The whole wall was completed around 1450. The gate was attacked in 1427 during the siege of the city. This attack was repelled.
The gate was opened and closed every day by the appointed raddraaiers, "wheel-turners". A minimum of twelve wheel-turners were collected morning and evening by several guards. It was an extremely dangerous task; if they did not begin walking simultaneously, then one could fall, dragging the rest along with often fatal results. Before the gate could come down, it had to be raised, to pull out the iron pins that held it in place. Only then could it come down. While the gate was going down, walking in the wheel grew ever easier and faster, and many people stumbled and broke their limbs. The koppelpoort was also never breached.
The Koppelpoort was given its current appearance during the restoration by Pierre Cuypers in 1885 and 1886. Among other things, Cuypers removed a step between the two gates and replaced it with a slope.
From 1969 to 1993 a puppet theater was situated in the gate.
The latest restoration was completed in 1996. It was carried out very cautiously, and with respect for the old building materials. For this the town of Amersfoort received the Europa Nostra Award.

The Atlantic Ocean Road is an 8.3-kilometer (5.2 mi) long section of County Road 64 that runs through an archipelago in Hustadvika and Averøy municipalities in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It passes by Hustadvika, an unsheltered part of the Norwegian Sea, connecting the island of Averøy with the mainland and Romsdalshalvøya peninsula. It runs between the villages of Kårvåg in Averøy and Vevang in Hustadvika. It is built on several small islands and skerries, which are connected by several causeways, viaducts and eight bridges—the most prominent being Storseisundet Bridge.
The partial bright "orb" looked a lot like the sun, but can't fool anyone once the real thing made its appearance behind the trees!
Wishing you a very good day and night!

The door to death. No, not a typo. But this is an entrance door of a cemetery chapel. The blue door is inside a cube. The recessed entrance area is made of white-painted concrete and a few steps lead to the blue door. The door to ...
This is the second building I photographed on my day downtown shooting architecture. It's called The Stack, and is near completion, but also still had construction fencing around the outside, so I could only get a straight up shot, but I really like these lines. It's Canada's first commercial high rise office building to receive a Zero Carbon award.
If you're interested in seeing the artist's conception of the entire building, here is their website. You need to scroll down to see the entire building: thestackyvr.com/

The Basilica and Convent of San Francisco, is a Catholic basilica that stands in the middle of the historic center of Quito. The structure is the largest architectural complex within the historic centers of all of South America. San Francisco is considered a jewel of continental architecture for its mixture of different styles combined throughout more than 150 years of construction. Inside the church there are more than 3,500 works of colonial art, of multiple artistic manifestations and varied techniques, especially those corresponding to the Colonial Quito School of Art, which was born precisely in this place.

This amazing architecture of this building was a complete antithesis to me, although its totally square outside, it's interior it's a perfect circle.

The bill of this Eastern Spinebill is coated with pollen grains as it darts from flower to flower.
Taken at Mt Lofty Botanical Garden in Adelaide, South Australia during our recent road trip.
Best view enlarged.
Australia is home to two kinds of spinebill – the Eastern Spinebill and the Western Spinebill.
The Eastern Spinebill has a long down curving, fine beak.
This useful appendage helps them dip into slender tubular and bell-shaped flowers for nectar.
They have white outer tail feathers, a grey-black crown, white throat and breast, with rufous patches in the centre of the throat.
The wings and lower back are dark grey and upper parts and back are buff.
Many thanks for your visit, comments, invites and faves..it is always appreciated..
Peaceful Sunday
The Magic of the ocean always draws me in. Always. It is healing and magical. Pacifica is a beautiful area with fabulous eateries, shops and a gorgeous goth castle (Sam’s Castle) built in 1908 loaded with colorful history , paranormal and mystery. Lovey’s Tea shop is delightful and has yummy homemade scones and great loose leaf teas to choose from. Yum. Nick’s Restaurant is a go to place for drinks and delicious food. Many hidden gems await discovery for those who like to explore.
The Long-horned Bee was close enough that the Flower Crab Spider grabbed the Bee with its strong front legs! The Bee attempted to sting the spider and had enough forward momentum that he was able to escape the clutches of the spider. The Bee then made several flybys and buzzed the spider. This made me laugh as the Bee was very angry that the spider would to try to eat him. The Bee then went back to foraging for pollen and the spider crawled under the petals.
The Blautopf (German for Blue Pot) is a natural spring that serves as the source of the river Blau in the karst landscape on the Swabian Jura's southern edge, in Southern Germany. It is located in the city of Blaubeuren, approximately 16 km (9.9 mi) west of Ulm and it forms the drain for the Blau cave system and feeds the river Blau. Because of its high water pressure, the spring has developed a funnel-like shape, which at its deepest point has a depth of 21 metres (69 ft). The water's peculiarly blue color, varying in intensity due to weather and flow, and is the result of physical properties of the nanoscale limestone densely distributed in the water. The particles are so small that the so-called Rayleigh scattering of light takes place, preferentially scattering the blue color in the visible light.
The beautiful Pyrrhuloxia was ready for action when this image was captured and reminded me of a matador. Both make and female are beautiful but the male is brighter with more visible red.
Wishing you a Blessed Sunday !!!!

The clocktower at Crouch End, the centre of our village.
Every hour on the hour I hear its chimes and if I'm awake at night I don't need to open my eyes and look at the led clock to know I should be asleep at that hour.

“The prose writer has thunder-legs.
The poet has lightning-feet.
Arriving at the destination,
the prose writer declares,
"I have become."
Arriving at the same destination,
the poet whispers,
"I eternally am."
