The baptistery is an octagonal building that symbolizes the eighth day (octava dies), the time of Christ's Ascension. It symbolized eternal life, which is given by baptism. The style of the church served as a prototype for Leone Battista Alberti's construction of other Romanesque churches in Tuscany. The exterior is decorated with statues by Andrea Sansovino, Giovan Francesco Rustici and Vincenzo Danti.

Symbolizing both benevolence and malevolence, the fox is sometimes identified with the messenger of the kami Inari in Japanese mythology.
Statues of foxes are found in great numbers both inside and outside shrines dedicated to the rice and fertility god.
At the Toyokawa Inari Betsuin Temple in Tokyo, we saw hundreds of these kitsune fox statues bedecked in their bright red bibs (a sign of their divinity) with some holding a scroll in their mouth, symbolizing their roles as messengers of the gods. They were surrounded by complimentary red and white flags, Inari's traditional colours.
Built in 1828, many of its structures are Shinto, but this is a Buddhist temple of the Sōtō Zen sect.

Proteas are native to South Africa, also known as sugarbushes. They are known for their unusual flowers, which can come in many shapes, sizes, colors, and textures. The name protea comes from the Greek god Proteus, who could change himself into many different shapes. In African tradition, the protea flower represents hope and change. In the European language of flowers, proteas symbolize diversity and courage. Snapped this shot of this yellow variety while visiting the Kula Botanical Gardens in Maui.
The color red symbolizes intense situations and emotions but at the same time it indicates warning and danger.

Prunis subhirtella "Pendula" or Weeping (a willow) Higan Cherry.I didn't have to get under this cherry blossom tree because it was pretty much at eye level and in front of me.I read that Japanese like to sit underneath the cherry flowering trees because of what they symbolize which is beauty and a short-lived existence. Also, the Japanese know when it's time for their kids to go back to school once they see the flowers are dying.Japan's school year begins in the month of April.

This photo symbolizes a very dark but beautiful period in my life, after which I could walk back into the light again.
Dark, because on January 21st I nearly lost my life due to a heart infarct. The larger half of my heart was fully blocked and when I entered hospital my temperature had dropped to 34 degrees Celcius.
Beautiful, because during that period several people were fighting for my life and I think that is the most beautiful gift a person can get.
I took this photo on one of the first walks after leaving hospital. I would have loved to get the beautiful girl a bit larger in the frame (I loved her hair waving in the wind) but at the time all I could do was keep up with her, not to catch up with her. So, it was a bit of a difficult shot as both of us were on the move. Even if the girl had not been there I would have taken a photo anyway because I think the diffused light and colors in the top of the trees is absolutely beautiful. Yet another gift that I received.

Ukraine survived a military battle in 2023 against the huge and rich Russia. Ukrainians lived through this terrible and difficult year in all respects, 2023, with dignity. We hoped for the best, but life, as always, is harsher and indifferent to hopes. Tomorrow is 2024. This is a symbolic day on the calendar, but it measures time, allows you to acutely feel losses and think about the future. No one knows what future awaits all of us living in this world, but we all believe in the best. There is no other way to live.
Wishing everyone happiness and peace in the New Year 2024. Glory to Ukraine! 💙💛
The evergreen tree has long symbolized life itself. Spruce is considered a symbol of eternity. Nature can freeze and bloom, but spruce, like life, is eternal. It remains green at any time of the year and represents immortality, eternal youth, courage, fidelity, longevity and dignity.
New Year is the main calendar holiday that occurs at the moment of transition from the last day of the current year to the first day of the next year. Celebrated by many states and their citizens in accordance with accepted traditions.
Symbolism: Flowers often symbolize growth, renewal, and the cycle of life. Similarly, mushrooms can symbolize transformation and regeneration as they emerge and contribute to the decomposition process in nature.
Each one would be exciting to capture as an individual specimen. I'm hoping for new individuals to surface. I'm thinking that if anyone else finds them, they'll be history (destroyed). This was a 60-image stack, just enough with my settings to capture them all.
Cherry blossoms hold many meanings, the first being that life is fleeting. They are beautiful to see in their prime, but the flowers and the trees are short-lived — blooming for only a few weeks before falling to the ground and withering away.
The sakura's meaning is also contradictory. It symbolizes both life and death, beauty and violence. As the coming of spring promises new life, so the blooming of cherry blossoms brings a sense of vitality and vibrancy. At the same time, their short lifespan is a reminder that life is fleeting.
You will often see cherry blossoms as a significant symbol in Japanese culture, including in paintings, film, poetry, and literature.
Historically, they represented the brief, but colorful life of the samurai, warriors of feudal Japan. They lived by a strict moral code of respect, honor, and discipline — called bushido. Their duty was to exemplify and preserve these virtues and to be fearless warriors even in the face of death. Fallen cherry blossoms or petals symbolized the end of the samurai’s short lives.
During World War II, kamikaze pilots also marked their planes with sakura before embarking on suicide missions. These emblems symbolized dying “like beautiful falling cherry petals for the emperor.”
In Japanese folk religions, cherry blossom trees often signified agricultural reproduction. Originally, sa referred to a rice paddy god, and kura meant “a seat for a god.” Japanese people believed cherry blossoms were dwelling places for mountain deities who transformed into the gods of rice paddies. Hence, people would travel to the mountains to worship the trees every spring.
The ritual of Hanami is a ceremony from Japan that celebrates the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms. It is commonly known as “flower viewing” and is simply the ancient practice of gazing upon the flowers.
In ancient times, farmers would pray, make offerings, and prepare a feast under the cherry blossom trees, believing it would bring an abundant harvest. These days, Hanami is an annual event everyone looks forward to. Come spring, family and friends gather for picnics and parties under the cherry blossom trees. They sing together, eat all kinds of food, and drink alcoholic beverages.

Sif is traditionally depicted with long, golden hair which some scholars claim symbolizes wheat.
She is part of a divine fertility couple as Sif represents the soil of the earth and the golden bounty of the fields.
Thor, the thunder god, represents the rain that fertilizes that soil to produce crops.
As a jest, Loki the Trickster, cut Sif's golden hair, leaving her bald and heartbroken. This may represent the harvesting of the crops and the stubble left in the fields.
Thor forced Loki to replace the cut hair with golden locks.
In my picture the replacement is a crown formed of wheat heads and swirling flag leaves, which Sif wears over her regrown hair, which is once again almost ready to harvest.

“Eastern cultures use the lotus flower as a symbol of spiritual development. The roots of the flower are concealed in the muddy earth, symbolizing the material world. From there it grows in the water, symbolizing emotions and finally it rises up towards the air and light where the wondrous flower peeks out from within its leaves. "Om Mani Padme Hum" is a sacred Tibetan mantra dedicated to the expression of compassion. It means - "Hail the jewel in the lotus".” Anonym ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Doğu kültürleri lotus çiçeğini manevi gelişimin bir sembolü olarak kullanır. Next one for the Zodiac Series is Capricorn!
----------------♡----------------
Capricorn is symbolized by the sea goat, a mythological creature with the body of a goat and tail of a fish. This imagery speaks to Capricorn's bifurcated abilities: Capricorns are skilled at navigating both the material and emotional realms. They scale the steepest mountains — Capricorn rules the knees, making it easier for this sign to climb — while simultaneously building up their psychic fortitude. Capricorns are relentless: They are determined to overcome whatever stands in their way. They have big picture, long-term goals and they absolutely don't want to be bogged-down by annoying details or superfluous information. However, because of their unwavering focus, Capricorns can sometimes be perceived as cold, unemotional, or even cutthroat — but that's only because Capricorn has perspective. If it won't matter in five years, Capricorn simply cannot be bothered with it today.
Capricorns are known to be extremely hardworking visionaries, leaders, and trailblazers. They are dynamic individuals who express a unique balance of confidence and humility: They have a grounded, practical spirit that makes people feel comfortable in their presence. Although they're very selective about who they let into their lives, Capricorns are incredibly gracious friends who pride themselves on honesty and loyalty. One important thing to note: Capricorns definitely don't sugarcoat. If a Capricorn doesn't approve of your choices or behavior, they will be sure to let you know. But the great thing about Capricorn is that they will also help you come up with solutions, action items, and practical ideas on how to improve your situation. Capricorns are do-ers, which means they're all about making it happen. You know that expression, "If you want something done, give it to a busy person?" Well, that's definitely the way Capricorn rolls. Even if Capricorn is knee-deep in deadlines and high-stakes crises, they will go out of their way to consider the needs of their closest companions.

Metekhi Church and Narikala Fortress
Metekhi Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is one of the oldest churches built in Tbilisi. Researchers confirm that the temple was built in the 6th century. King Vakhtang I Gorgasali erected a church, a castle and a palace here, which also served as the king's residence. The temple symbolized the temple of the Virgin Mary in the Garden of Gethsemane in Jerusalem.
In the VIII-XI centuries Metekhi was the residence of Amira of Tbilisi. In Georgian historical sources, the Metekhi rock is mentioned in the XI-XIII centuries as a strong fortified fortress, where the chambers of the Bagratov kings were located.
"Metekhi" is found in historical sources of the XII century. In 628, a new church was built instead of the one destroyed by the Khazars. According to Queen Tamar's historian Basil, when the king sent the Georgian army in 1195 at the Battle of Shamkori, she came to Metekhi Cathedral barefoot and prayed for Georgia with tears. During the reign of King Rusudan, in 1226, the Mongols again destroyed the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin in Metekhi.
In the second half of the 17th century, the Metekhi temple was abandoned and damaged. In 1660 the church was damaged by a thunderstorm. In the first half of the 18th century, a Turkish and then a Persian garrison was stationed in Metekhi fortress.
In the 1690s, King Erekle I, along with Nazarli-Khan Mametekhi Fortress, handed over the church to the Persians, who continued to use it as a weapons depot. The church was repaired only after king Erekle II defeated Abdullah-Beg in 1748. He repaired the damaged church and restored its dome.
In 1795 the temple was again damaged during the invasion of Aghamahmadkhan. From 1798 to 1800, the church was built by King George XII. After 1801, the Metekhi Church continued to operate. In 1819, by order of General Ermolov, the old fortress was destroyed and instead was build a two-story building (around the rock) which was used as a jail. After that, the former Isani fortress was renamed to Metekhi Prison, and the church was turned into a prison church. The overall architecture of Metekhi has changed: new barrack-type buildings have emerged around the church instead of a multi-tower fence.

Narikala Fortress is nowadays the leading sighting among the most visited places in Tbilisi by tourists. No one, I emphasize, no one leaves Tbilisi without walking around this amazing fortress, which is unbelievably stunning at night. Narikala Fortress draws your attention from all sides of Tbilisi, you can notice it from almost every part of Tbilisi. It overlooks the Mtkvari River, which makes Narikala even more incredible. Narikala consists of two walled sections between the sulphur baths and the Tbilisi Botanical Garden.
The fortress walls date from various periods, the earliest from the 4th century, when it was a Persian citadel. Most of the present walls were built in the 8th century by the Arab emirs, whose palace was inside the fortress. In Georgian sources it is called “Mother Fortress”. Narikala offers you some of the best panoramas of the city. This is an ancient symbol of Tbilisi’s defensive brilliance.
Torii gates are erected at the entrances to Shinto shrine to symbolize that the ground inside is sacred. As you know, Fushimi Inari Shrine situated in Kyoto, an ancient capital of Japan, is extremely famous for its thousands of red-lacquered torii gates.
I searched for the similar location in Tokyo and finally reached to Sannou Inari Shrine in Chiyoda-ku, where I could enjoy a scenery of torii gates like that of the Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto.
It is unbelievable that such a mysterious shrine is located in the heart of Tokyo. The Diet Building and Prime Minister's Official Residence are within a few minutes of the shrine.
Thank you all for your support and much appreciated favs and positive comments!

The stone sculptures in Sno, a small village in the Kazbegi region of Georgia, are part of a remarkable art project in the Caucasus. These sculptures consist of impressive stone artworks depicting giant faces, often with a melancholic or mysterious expression. They were created by local artist Merab Piranishvili, who is renowned for his unique ability to bring faces and emotions to life in natural stone. Working primarily with local stones, he carves expressive facial features that tell stories about life, the soul, and the deep connection with nature. The sculptures symbolize the ancient wisdom of the mountain dwellers and the spirit of the past. The faces sometimes appear sad or contemplative, reflecting both the challenges and the beauty of life in the Caucasus. Fully integrated into the surrounding landscape, the sculptures stand among the mountains, hills, and rugged grasslands, blending seamlessly with their natural environment. This is what makes Piranishvili’s work so unique: he respects the natural shapes of the stones and subtly adds human characteristics without compromising their raw, natural beauty. Piranishvili often works directly in the field, selecting local stones and carving them with a hammer and chisel. He carefully considers the natural form of each stone, adapting his designs to create a result that looks organic and harmonizes with the surrounding environment.
Sno is located near the breathtaking Stepantsminda area and the imposing Mount Kazbegi. The stone sculptures are a hidden gem in this region, attracting an increasing number of art enthusiasts and travelers. The site exudes a serene, almost meditative atmosphere—perfect for those seeking something unique off the beaten path. If you ever find yourself near Kazbegi, these sculptures are well worth a visit. They offer a truly unique experience where art and nature come together in perfect harmony.

The color blue symbolizes loyalty, as in a “true blue” friend. It also symbolizes trust, faith, and wisdom.
The blue, or turquoise, chakra is your fifth chakra. It is Vishuddha in Sanskrit. Your fifth chakra rules your ability to connect, communicate, and express yourself.
If you see a blue dragonfly, think about the messages that you are putting into the world. Even without speaking, you are constantly communicating to others. This may be in how you carry yourself, what you post on social media, whether you greet people with warmth or judgement, or even with your silence.
The blue dragonfly also asks you if you are being authentic. Are you presenting yourself and are you communicating in a way that reflects the truth of who you are and the highest version of who you were meant to be? As the saying goes, “The truth will set you free.” The blue dragonfly reminds you that we all need to stand in truth and speak our truths.

The world-famous graffiti artist's OZMO latest mural in Liepāja
The mural " Siren, Wind, Sea and Freedom" emphasizes the importance of the sea in the daily life of the city, depicting it in the image of the Sea god Neptune, the seductive and captivating city, depicted in the image of a beautiful woman – a Siren, and the wind of Liepāja. In this work, too, OZMO has used his typical references to world-famous works of art. The image of Neptune is modelled from that one on the fountain of Neptune in Bologna, Italy, but the wind is symbolized by the Wind god Aiola, depicted in this shape at an ancient marble tab and used in the works of OZMO before. In turn, the woman’s head is decorated with three stars as those from the Latvian State Statue of Liberty, thus emphasizing the importance and role of Liepāja in the whole country.
“When creating my works, I always do research in advance and use different symbols. In this mural, the wind creates roaring sea waves, both united by the beautiful Latvian city – Liepāja, which is symbolized by a real-life girl, a singer seen on the social network Instagram,” says the author of the work OZMO. ” To create this more than 150 m2 large painting, it took 11 days, 217 colour cans, a tube of sunscreen, one bucket truck and many forthcoming people, who helped to implement this long-cherished idea,” says the author of the project idea, the “Red Sun Buffet Beach Bar” co-owner Mareks Alberts.
OZMO is visiting Liepāja within the project “Street Art Portraits in the Streets of Liepāja”. He began his creative career creating comics, but soon turned to writing and painting. In 2001, he entered the Florence Academy of Visual Arts in Milan, collaborating with the world’s largest art galleries. Shortly afterwards, under the nickname OZMO he became known for his impressive wall paintings. His works can be seen in Milan, London, Rome, Miami, Baltimore, Shanghai, Paris, Gdansk and many other cities around the world. More information about the artist is available here:

In front of a restaurant in the picturesque town of Sighnaghi stands a colorful, weathered car. On its roof rests a qvevri, the large clay vessel that symbolizes Georgia’s ancient winemaking tradition. Painted in bright colors with the town’s name, the car instantly catches the eye of passersby and invites them to step inside. The surroundings of Sighnaghi belong to Kakheti, Georgia’s most famous wine region. Wine has been made here for over 8,000 years, earning the country the title “the cradle of winemaking.” Even today, wine is still produced in the traditional way using qvevris, buried underground. Grapes — including skins and seeds — ferment and mature for months, creating unique, full-bodied flavors and an amber hue for white wines. The restaurant marked by this car honors that centuries-old tradition with the qvevri on its roof. Visitors strolling through Sighnaghi’s cobblestone streets are reminded of Kakheti’srich wine culture. Inside, you can taste local wines like Saperavi and Rkatsiteli, paired with traditional dishes and the warm hospitality Georgia is known for. Thus, the car is not just an eye-catcher but a visual invitation to discover the flavors and stories of Sighnaghi — a town where history, gastronomy, and wine come together.
In front of a cozy restaurant in Sighnaghi, this colorful vintage car proudly displays the town’s name. On its roof sits a qvevri, the traditional clay vessel used for Georgian winemaking for over 8,000 years. It’s a playful nod to the rich wine heritage of Kakheti, where ancient traditions still live on. Visitors are invited to step inside, taste Saperavi or Rkatsiteli, and experience the unique blend of history, wine, and warm Georgian hospitality.

Delphinium is a wonderful flower.
He is a talisman and a talisman.
He is a famous love spell
Capricious, sophisticated ladies.
Delphinium is a source of poison,
A flower of sadness, a shadow of longing.
It attracts the eye.
He is the tenderness of a loving hand......At all times, Delphinium surprises with its forms and the beauty of flowering.
Its stem can grow tiny, not reaching ten centimeters from
the ground, or rise in height, like a three-meter mast. Its inflorescences
resemble a blooming pyramid or a fountain, rejoicing under the rays of the sun.
And, how amazing is the color scheme of Delphinium buds! Among the openwork
leaves, azure, white, purple or blue, red or
cream petals open, and with undisguised curiosity,
white "eyes" look from the petals from the center of the terry inflorescences. But the most remarkable color
of the Delphinium is “blue”, symbolizing the beauty of the heavens and eternity,
the depth of the seas and the nobility of origin, perfection, peaceful life....In fact, the Delphinium flower is not as harmless as it looks. It is not worth
them to feast on any animal, especially people, because it is poisonous.
The poison of Delphinium is comparable... except with the poison of the mysterious "curare". Even
bees arriving at such a honey plant prepare "drunk" honey...But if you want to enchant someone, then Delphinium is irreplaceable. In the hands
of an experienced witcher, it is suitable for creating a “love potion". For superstitious
people, Delphinium can serve as a talisman. Dry, necessarily blue,
Delphinium and hide it in a linen bag. Then, before going to sleep at night, lead
to the neck not for the sight of prying eyes. Then the nightmarish visions or
insomnia will immediately stop. Even the ancient Slavs prepared a medicine from Delphinium that heals wounds.
Hence its second, very strange name "larkspur". But do not try
to prepare such a medicine yourself. Because there is no recipe in sight for a long time.
Perhaps it is buried deep in the ground on a distant, uninhabited island and under
some oh-oh-huge tree, near which there is a formidable guard
- fire-breathing dragon. Delphiniums are noble in origin.... From Olympus, the Gods smiled at this beauty.
They are patient with the shade and the sun, spring frosts, unyielding
in the gusts of winds that chill us. Terry “fountains”, like a dream,
shine in the light when in dew. Elegant Delphiniums bloom in gardens and anyone
who sees them will exclaim: ”A-a-ah!”.
"Daffodils are cheerful spring flowers that symbolize rebirth, hope and friendship. ... Daffodils are also known as narcissus, after the Greek myth of a handsome youth who fell in love with his own reflection in a pool and drowned. Some say the flowers sprang from his tears."

in the early morning hush, beneath a sky heavy with mist, the sharp lines of the oculus rise like wings poised to take flight. designed by architect santiago calatrava, the oculus serves as the main transportation hub for the world trade center, its soaring steel ribs symbolizing a bird in flight. the building stands as a tribute to resilience, a stark contrast to the memories of loss that permeate this space.
above, one world trade center—commonly known as the freedom tower—pierces the sky, its pinnacle hidden in the thick, low-hanging clouds. this tower, the tallest building in the western hemisphere, embodies the strength and rebirth of the city. the photograph captures the serene tension of these structures on a misty day, moments before the rain began, freezing a moment where architecture and nature meld into a seamless tableau of urban poetry.
