On a carrier - this trigger switch is held by the LSO (Landing Signals Officer) who stands on the back of the carrier (in all weather) to help the approaching aircraft make a safe landing on the carrier deck.
If the LSO doens't like the way that the approaching aircraft is coming in - he hits that red switch and it causes 4 red lights to blink on the Landing system, telling the approaching pilot that this attempt has been 'waved off'.

BNSF switches cars out at 14th street with their little old SW1200. This is getting rare nowadays, a switcher on a Class 1 Railroad. Especially since BNSF has sold most of its 1200's to NRE.

The switch blades and stock rails are chamfered as described in my article on using hinges to file turnout tapers. The (cosmetic) tie bars are 0.25mm styrene rod fixed with cyano to little flanges soldered onto the bottom of the switch blades. The flanges nearest to the toe are roughly dagger † shaped extended down through holes below the rails and are driven by a plastic sliding TOU with two 1mm ID tubes projecting upwards through the baseboard. Invisible from most angles. The crossbar on the dagger supports the tie bar on the inside and rubs against the bottom of the stock rail on the outside (just visible in the photo – should be a bit shorter)
