A switch is an electronic device that turns on or off the circuit or causes it to flow to another circuit. The most common switch is a human-operated electromechanical device that has one or more electronic contacts.
The "closed" of the contact means that the electronic contact is switched on and allows current to flow; The "open" of a switch means that the electronic contact is open and does not allow current to flow.

This is just a teaser of something I am working on. Sorry the soundtrack stops abruptly, but it will not in the final version. This may be quite boring to you now, but I love the colors and could not resist posting it even before it is complete.
Switchable glazing enables students and visitors to see the plug in and play area in action. Within the Plant Room is the Absorption Chiller and Boiler, and plug-in and play area.
At the moment a boiler is used to demonstrate the heating/cooling system, because it demonstrates the principle. But this could equally be powered by a fuel cell CHP unit to get electricity, heat and cooling (trigeneration) at this small scale. Plans to hook the chiller up to the solar thermal panels in due course are rolling, to give solar cooling.
The plug and play area can therefore be used to trial different heating and cooling options – if anyone comes to CEREB with an interesting propotype we could consider trialing it here.

SWITCHES
These are single-pole battery main switches with
max. 24V tension, which are triggered manually
with a plastic key .They are noticeably different in aspect, and size
to suit the amperage they have to resist during the
opening and closing of the contacts. Their size makes
them suitable for small boats, cars and tractors or commercial vehicles, buses or earthmoving machines, etc.
In this section are included the different models
of battery main switches – with technical and electrical
characteristics as well as size, ranging from the
versions with red plastic key and IP protection grade
IP 4X/EN60529, to those with metal key and IP
protection grade IP65/EN60529.
If the battery switches with M12 bolts have to be
fitted on special applications requiring the maximum
working current load (500 A) it is recommended that
cables with 95 mmq or bigger section be used

On a carrier - this trigger switch is held by the LSO (Landing Signals Officer) who stands on the back of the carrier (in all weather) to help the approaching aircraft make a safe landing on the carrier deck.
If the LSO doens't like the way that the approaching aircraft is coming in - he hits that red switch and it causes 4 red lights to blink on the Landing system, telling the approaching pilot that this attempt has been 'waved off'.
