Once again got up at 5.00 AM to go out and shoot at sunrise. We got to this place around 6.30, the sun was already coming out! It was incredibly peaceful, no one around but us...oh! and the fox, the storks, and the hares. Far in the distance, the voices of two fishermen echoed and a flock of wild ducks flu nearby. Perfect scenario for photographers :)

The light was incredibly beautiful just adding to the scene. I wished i had a 10-20mm so i could shoot the scene wider...oh well, this one will have to do it until that wonderful day comes:) Hum...and yup, we do have such high mountains!!

By now you know that you can see the large versions of this and other works here!

Also known as "Penedo da Meadinha" this place is part of the natural park of Peneda-Gerês. The park is known by it's great number of protected animal and plant species, some of them endangered. After 50 minutes, hiking, we had reached the top at 1100 meters high, no big deal right? Wrong! It's a damn tough walk :)

Solitude vs Loneliness Loneliness is marked by a sense of isolation. Solitude, on the other hand, is a state of being alone without being lonely and can lead to self-awareness.

Yesterday i have seen the most beautiful sunset colors in the world at Costa Nova, Aveiro.

From the top of Penela Castle, in the district of Coimbra, there is a panoramic view that illustrates the transition of the landscape in central Portugal. The valley reveals a diverse smallholding with cultivated fields, olive groves, and scattered dwellings, characteristic of traditional agriculture. The slopes display extensive areas of eucalyptus and pine forests, marking the predominance of forestry in the region. In the background, the A13 viaduct crosses the terrain, symbolizing the integration of modern infrastructure into a historic landscape. This coexistence between built heritage, centuries-old agricultural practices, and new communication routes reflects the evolution of the Penela region. The view confirms the strategic importance of the castle in controlling the valley, while revealing the resilience of local communities and the transformation of the landscape over the centuries, shaped both by human activities and by the geological characteristics of the region, from the limestone massifs to the schist slopes that herald the Serra da Lousã.

I am really happy with the level of transparency achieved on this one. Shooting rocks and water, registering its movements trying to achieve different levels of transparency, can be very relaxing and super addictive. These days, i seem to come home with tons of shots from a bunch of rocks, water, and different compositions around these subjects. However, a very peaceful mind with tons of positive energy is also a great result from these exercises. It's like going to yoga! You should try, it's a wonderful therapy for a stressful life. :)

Shot this morning even though it was rainy and foggy. The big size is here!

Has been ranked as one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe: the name is Adraga. If you visit you will agree.

On the other hand, there are so many reasons to why we should respect all living creatures on earth. Do watch these bottled nose dolphins in a most absolute demonstration of intelligence!

Photographing landscapes is a lot more enjoyable when you spend some time before your shootings preparing your equipment, researching destinations and planning itineraries. I just love that part of this hobby and i am now planning my next weekend location.

The sight of Grévy's zebras drinking with their reflections dancing on the water creates a sense of tranquility and harmony. It's a reminder of the beauty and wonder of the African wilderness and the delicate balance of life within it.

Scientists say rising temperatures, particularly during the summer, and GHGs emissions are largely responsible.

Still Magoito and the sunset light and that's because this place is so amazingly gorgeous...I know, I know, my country is very beautiful, so many of you have said it. I do consider myself very fortunate and thankful for photography. It makes me search and appreciate the beautiness of moments and places such as this. I feel so small...sometimes.

Neverland is a place in my imagination, a quiet corner far from the city where cows graze and crickets sing all day. Neverland, is a place where dead poets write their words and artists echo their voices. Neverland is a place that sits in our hearts along with beauty and poetry. So, if you have a heart you know where Neverland is. If you don't, don't bother to look for it, you will never find it.

Today was the most wonderful day, warm, the sky was just amazingly blue. This shot was taken on the surroundings of Lagoa de Albufeira Natural Park. It´s really beautiful there.

Hi to all my friends!! Missed you all this time. I have been away from Flickr and busy traveling around with lichtmaedel who came from Germany to visit Portugal. Yeah, we have had tons of fun together. :) Along with us came my best friends Teresa and Luís. Believe me, these have been wonderful days of learning, sharing, talking non-sense, lots of jokes and laughs. Too bad i don't have a big house to have you all over!! :PP

Alentejo, south of Portugal, where the vast plains become less inhabited and sunnier shades around here are provided by olive and oak trees. You can hear the sounds of the water coming by the refreshing dam of Alqueva. The Alentejo is an extensive region covering almost a third of Portugal. It stretches from the River Tagus, just South of Lisbon, to the hills of Algarve. To the east, Alentejo shares a border with Spain(the shot was taken very close to the border), on the west you will find the most beautiful beaches on the Atlantic Ocean. Alentejo is an exceptional place to visit. It's a 2 hour drive, on the freeway, from Lisbon but it's when you choose the scenic routes that you'll meet the rich landscapes of cork-oak woodland, wheat-fields, vineyards, olive groves, beaches and cliffs.

Today, when we left for sunrise, it was raining hard. Half way to our destination, we looked at each other and said "we should have stayed home!" but then again we know that rainy days have very dramatic sunrises. So we said "we will see, who knows we are lucky..." and we were! for 20 minutes, we had a gorgeous sunrise at our most recent spotted gem! :PPP

"The Elfin Hill" is the title of a story written by Hans Christian Andersen however, IMHO, that title could have also been a wonderful name for the forest of Sintra. Actually, just as a matter of curiosity, i should tell you that Andersen made a trip to Portugal, in 1866, to visit a friend who was, at the time, spending the weekend in its farm "Quinta do Pinheiro" located in the Sintra forest area. Yup, Anderson was a guest there for a while. Could he have been inspired by the magic of the place? Well, that i don't really know but what i do know is that the story of "The Elfin Hill" is wonderful and full of magic, much like the Sintra forest.

Went out shooting, yesterday. First time in many days, first picture of 2008. I was really missing it. I have been busy working hard with a very noble goal in mind, a D3 :)

Anyways, it seemed like a good day to go out since the night before we had been awarded with heavy rains and a storming sea. And so it was! The light was fabulous, the beach was incredibly beautiful with rough waves spreading foam all over the place. There were dogs, people flying kites and posers that run into someone else's photo :) For today, the weather forecasts the stormiest day of all, so tomorrow we are back in business! Although the sun rises around 8 am, our trip heading south starts at 5 am. I love my shooting sundays! Wanna come?? :)

William Blake

A wonderful advise by Jeanne Dobie: "When I’m painting on location, I’ve found that unique lighting effects change quickly, and this led me to my greatest painting lesson: Grab the essence of the scene first! I always start a painting with the part that I find most appealing, and that’s usually the light bounce. This way I know when I’m successful: The light bounces seem almost magically to make a painting look sunbathed....There’s nothing so rewarding as watching viewers enter a scene and lose themselves in the luminous world I’ve painted.

Yeah, I do know very well how you feel. I am a light chaser myself. I almost always find a way and when i don't, i make one!

Frost Moon, as they call it, is the first full moon after Harvest Moon which happened in October (see photo). Frost Moon, appears brighter than other full moons and it occurs at the point when the moon is closest to the earth due to the elliptical orbit. Today it was a .5 tide one of the lowest tides of the year. :) Shot with two new friends that were willing to come and shoot at sunrise. :)

Zariquiegui, on the French Way route in Navarre, is a stopping point before the climb to Alto del Perdón. The landscape is dominated by recently harvested grain fields, contrasting with the woods of the mountains, where the traditional houses of the village are located. Of particular note is the Church of San Andrés, a 12th-century Romanesque temple with preserved medieval elements, which served as a spiritual reference point for pilgrims. On the horizon, the Serra do Perdão features a wind farm, with its turbines harnessing the constant winds and symbolizing the commitment to renewable energy. Alto do Perdão, with its monument to pilgrims and panoramic views, represents a rewarding physical and spiritual challenge. This section of the Way, between Pamplona and Puente la Reina, illustrates the union of history, spirituality, and economic development, from traditional agriculture to clean energy technologies.

It's out of focus and not a great composition but i like the mood and the lighting.

Cultural heritage is crucial for the local development and climate-resilient communities.

A flooding Venice is a portrait of the climate crisis that we do not want to see again in our newspapers and blogs.

On the grounds of its uniqueness, Venice founded not only its architecture, but also its right to exist in its peculiar cultural and social identity.

A special and resilient city, capable of rebirth following a flood - such as the one in 1966 - and of constantly improving the living conditions of its citizens, of its guests, and daily commuters.

Praia da Calada is a beautiful beach located between steep cliffs on the Portuguese coast road, 10 km North from Ericeira, just north of Ribeira D'Ilhas another beautiful location and a favorite for surfers!

Abstract - could probably be referred to as the graphic style, since the components of scenery are treated as graphic elements and arranged for their compositional values. Here, design is more important than a recognizable representation. Natural elements are rendered as unrecognizable or almost so. Abstract is when shape and form take priority. Elements may be juxtapositioned for comparison or contrast, isolated by extreme close-up or reduced to silhouettes by severe underexposure.
