The "Unconditional Surrender" statue of a sailor and nurse kissing will be moved from San Diego to New Jersey after Memorial Day, loaned to San Diego in 2007 by the Sculpture Foundation, where it will undergo maintenance before the roughly 6,000-pound sculpture and its 24,000-pound base will be shipped to New Jersey according to the Port of San Diego. After a busy week and week end, an opportunity came up to head out and explore after some bad weather started to clear. It great finding old ruins.

I originally shot this for a book cover but the publishers ended up going a slightly different direction. I loved it though, and couldn't help myself with Halloween so near! I love Halloween but I'm terrified of all things scary, so in reality we shouldn't mix. The most I can do is watch Hocus Pocus, carve pumpkins, and bake apple crisp. All of which I am doing several times over.

I feel a sense of joy and lightness with the end of October nearing. It marks the end of a lot of travel, and there is nothing I value more than being home. To me, home is where I can settle into myself. I'm spending the next two months re-writing my novel, printing the new series I've been working on all year, and creating new works by myself and for myself. Home is an amazing place if you cultivate it as such.

Wombo art. The words are a portion of a hymn by Charlotte Elliott.

Often when visiting an abandoned building, you are left with several questions. When was this building abandoned and why was it left to the elements to decay and fade? Who were the people who built it, and who decided to let it go? A lot of times it is hard to find much information about some buildings, so they are left in mystery. I wish I knew more about this church, located in the Delta region of eastern Arkansas, USA. It looks to have been abandoned for awhile, with part of the roof caved in and collapsed.

The interior of the church raises more questions, namely what happened here? Why is one half of the building nearly gone, while the other almost looks to be ok? What's the story with the piano in the middle? Did someone try to move it, only to manage to get it to this spot before giving up? Also there were some holes in the floor, would I fall through if I walked inside to take pictures?

And finally, how much longer will this building be standing? And how many people would mourn it once it inevitably collapses?

here i am ....

down on my knees again ...

surrendering all ...

find me here ...

Lord as You draw me near ...

desperate for You ...

I surrender ....

with arms stretched wide ...

I know You hear my cry ...

speak to me now ...

i surrender ...

i want to know You more ...

like a mighty storm ...

stir within my soul ...

Lord have Your way in me ..

i surrender ....

Standing right by the Midway Aircraft Carrier is this 25 ft. statue of the iconic photo taken Aug. 14, 1945, in Times Square New York City the day World War II ended. A sailor stopped a nurse, gave her a big kiss which was captured by a random photographer.

It become the symbol of the joy felt when the war was finally over. Called, "The Kiss" or "Unconditional Surrender" it's replicated here in bronze, overlaid with painted aluminum.

I had to post a collage because there were no people to show scale when we first got there in the morning.

Chalkhill Blue "surrendering" to my macro lens...Lol..!!!!

Some nice details if viewed large....thanks.

Surrender, a word that we don't understand

How are we to get ahead when we have empty hands?

We fight for what will fade

We cling to that from which we're saved

And soon we'll wake to find

We've naught but fists of sand

What good is the whole world

If you've no soul?

~Cool Hand Luke

I just adore their lyrics. Oh how they make me think!

On another note - yeah....winter sucks. Maybe it's still fall where you are....not here.

The Building is the "House with Chimaeras" in Kyiv, Ukraine: An Art Nouveau building covered in animal gargoyles and grotesques.

The Polish architect Władysław Horodecki originally constructed the House with Chimaeras for use as his own upmarket apartment building during the period of 1901–1902.

Horodecki's unique architectural style earned him praise as the Antoni Gaudí of Kyiv.

I was actually planning on creating a totally different image for this week, but loved this as soon as I shot it. It reminded me of what direction I was wanting to take my photography, I had this idea a couple of years ago, of creating characters that lived in this lost in between place. A world that changes you, if only you can survive it. That's where most of my characters live, but you normally only see the dark effect and not the beginning. This character has yielded to this dark place; and with one fingertip, she has surrendered herself completely.
