An Alaska Army National Guard UH-60L Black Hawk helicopter assigned to 207th Aviation Troop Command operates near Ladd Army Airfield Aug. 3., 2023 in support of wildland fire suppression across Interior Alaska. During fire suppression operations, the UH-60 employs a Bambi Bucket filled with approximately 630 gallons of water from a nearby lake. The Alaska Army National Guard deployed the UH-60 and air crew July 31, 2023 after receiving a resource request from the Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection routed through the State Emergency Operations Center. Into the Field
You are standing near the center of the most successful Union attack at the Battle of Fredericksburg. Two Union divisions, Gen. George G. Meade's on your left and Gen. John Gibbon's on your right, advanced into this field and soon encountered the "Virginia ditch fence" visible on your right and left. The ditch fences, dug by farmers to divide their fields and to promote drainage, were much steeper, deeper, and wider during the battle. Union soldiers scrambled across this and other obstacles however they could.
After Union troops crossed the ditch fences, converging Confederate artillery fire stopped them cold. The Federals laid down in the fields in front of you as Union cannons replied in kind. Both sides suffered heavy losses in men, horses, and equipment. When the fire was too hot for the men of one Confederate battery, its commander "wrapped his battle flag around him, walking up and down among his deserted guns" to shame his gunners back into position.

As the Union troops advanced into this field, terrain slowed them and Southern cannon fire brought them to a halt.

Just prior to the Union assault, 24-year-old Confederate Major John Pelham advanced one cannon a mile to your left and wrought havoc on the Union lines. Dangerously exposed and outgunned, Pelham disrupted the Union attack for nearly an hour and emerged unscathed. Of Pelham's actions, Gen. Robert E. Saturday, December 20, 2020-Hundreds of members of the Central California Sikh community took to the streets of Downtown Sacramento to protest a recent set of bills proposed by members of the Indian government, which activists say will cause many independent farmworkers to lose their ability to provide for themselves. “They will not be able to make money”, says Khera Singh, a young demonstrator who lives in the Sacramento Area. “They will die, they will commit suicide”. Singh says that this is just one in a worldwide series of protests to raise awareness of this cause.

The sunflowers added were added to highlight "The Sunflower", a book on the Holocaust by Simon Wiesenthal. In his book, he reminisces his experience with a terminally wounded Nazi. The book recounts Wiesenthal's experience in the Lemberg concentration camp and discusses the moral ethics of the matter. The title comes from Wiesenthal's observation of a German military cemetery, seeing a sunflower on each grave, and fearing his own placement in an un-marked, mass grave. North Bohemian cistercian monastery founded in late 12th Century. It survived many burnings and plunders through the centuries, was expanded and modernized in baroque style, and was used by monks until 2008. Today it´s entrusted to the local catholic diocese, and the monks can return any time they want. The complex is an important cultural and architectonic monument supported by the state, with impressive baroque interiors, in 2014 the old monastery brewery was renewed and produces beer due to the old monk traditions.
Douglas College support staff were on a one day strike in support of a fair and reasonable deal on November 14, 2012.
All Douglas College New Westminster campus classes were cancelled. The monetary offer on the table for support staff at Douglas College was half what support staff at other post secondary institutions have settled for.
Douglas College is the seventh largest post secondary institution in British Columbia, with 4,700 full-time and 10,000 part-time students for the 2011-12 school year.
There are 304 Douglas College support staff represented by the BCGEU. They work at registration, in IT services, as library assistants, at the bookstore, in student services, and offer financial aid to students.
