Structural parts are not visible, they are crucial for safety and especially relevant in the event of a crash.

FORT NORFOLK, Va. – For years, Mother Nature’s fury has steadily eroded the structural integrity of the Fort Norfolk pier and wharf area, seriously degrading its operational effectiveness and jeopardizing its safe operation. Broken, crumbling and missing pilings; underneath pier foundation completely deteriorated; wharf top cap rotten away; mooring fasteners and piling bolts – gone! That was then. Today, new state-of-the-art structural upgrades expand the facility’s operation and extend its useful life for up to 15 years. The Fort Norfolk Bulkhead and Pier Repair project, under the design and construction management of Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, began work in October 2011, and was completed ahead of schedule and more than $150,000 under budget. The Corps’ prime contractor, Team Henry Enterprises, LLC, based in Newport News, Va., is an 8A minority-owned small business. The project marked the first time Team Henry had performed work for Norfolk District, but their land work experience extended to other federal and state agencies. Completing the project ahead of schedule and below budget was no surprise to Steven Baum, Norfolk District’s project manager.

On February 17, 2012 I drove to Parrish, Florida to record the Placement of the Orange Blossom Special Steam Locomotive, on the track at the Florida Railroad Museum in Parrish, Florida. This Photo shows the Hydraulic Jack Trailer, which controls the Jacks that position the Locomotive to move it from the Cradle to the Track. All this is being done by the Employees of R.E. Johnson & Sons, Structural Movers (aka: Johnson & Sons Housemoving).

I wasn't able to get photos of the Locomotive in route because of delays the Rigging Company had in getting government approval from the Florida DOT regarding Permits and approvals for the Route (which particular roads) to be taken between Orlando and Parrish. I couldn't keep track of all of the reschedules of the delivery and consequently missed the opportunity to photograph the move itself. During the delay, the Locomotive and Tender were stored in the Old Amway Arena Parking Lot on the Northwest Side of Interstate Route 4 in Downtown Orlando prior to the movement to Parrish.

The remains of a structural beam from the North Tower, which was donated by the New York City Fire Department, with this inscription:

"At 8:47AM on September 11, 2001 Emergency Reporting System Box 8087 transmitted a call for help to Battalion 1 of the Fire Department of New York that an aircraft had crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Ultimately, thousands of New York City firefighters responded to the call to rescue victims trapped in the North and South Towers. When America was under attack by terrorists on this tragic day, 343 firefighters perished. From the rubble of the North Tower this 14 foot structural beam was recovered. Weighing approximately 1,200 pounds, the beam is imprinted with FDNY 343 representing those 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice."

Barcelona, Spain.

Day five ... our last day there. A day of wandering.

The Torre de Gas Natural ...

The last building designed by Miralles & Benedetta Tagliabue EMBT in Barcelona, this office tower—the headquarters of the national Catalan gas company—makes an impressive mark on the city’s skyline and faces the sea.

The building is usually called ‘The Gas Tower’ but, as with most Miralles projects, it has very little to do with prototypical, corporate aesthetics, or even what one would typically conceive of as a tower. Clad in different colored glass panels, the building confounds onlookers, as there’s no discernible main axis or single perspective from which to regard its geometry.

Call it “form follows urbanism”: the building stands at the crossroads between the modern Olympic Village and the traditional maritime neighborhood of La Barceloneta.

The result is something beyond a simple ‘tower’; the architecture relates no less than a new concept of space and the last (and one of the most celebrated) of Miralles’ masterworks.

i noticed, or became aware a few days ago, that these clouds have several tiers of structural activity, there are the smallest clumps that are probably ordinary random cloud formations, with some electrical activity thrown in, pushing them apart from one another--

But then there are larger structures which seem to group these features together, which must be caused by other forces, perhaps thermals rising from the ground or swirlies in the clouds themselves--

But as the structures become larger, including more and more of these smaller groups and sets, it becomes clearer that something hinky is going on--

Not to mention the occasional 'weird' square, cut out region, or discontinuous anomaly.

Plus -- ! -- there are all the 'Tracks' that cut right through all these features, which must only be caused by something moving amoung them, but they are clearly not airplanes, as these cuts often slice a cloud fully into parts or sections.

The proof for flying saucers, esp and other quixotic phenomena may be right above you right now, go out and take a look at what gawd is trying to tell you ( !!! )

May 2, 2021 - Hilton Tower under construction across North High Street from the Hilton Columbus Downtown. The orange building is the Greater Columbus Convention Center. I love the structural gymnastics of the concrete column how it it is splayed out over the Convention Center. The new 28 story hotel tower will have 460 guest rooms and between the two hotels it will be the largest hotel in the state of Ohio with nearly 1,000 rooms. Scheduled to open in 2022.

Piping Technology & Products, Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiary, Pipe Shields, Inc. designed and fabricated many structural pipe hangers for an on-going project to rebuild the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. The pipe hangers are made out of A-36 carbon steel and galvanized to withstand corrosion from the ocean waters and rough winds. These pipe supports will be welded to Pipe Shields’ C Model Anchor Plates, which are set in a cast concrete to the bottom cavity of the bridge.

Supports pictured utilize friction holding devices known as MegaLug®, which permit attachment to the pipes without welding. These supports were designed and fabricated to include improvements in regard to strength and durability to withstand high loads during earthquakes and other seismic events.

I like how in France old buildings aren't over restored and made picturesque. Not a wisteria or hanging basket with geraniums, or self congratulatory car in sight. In Surrey it's sometimes difficult to imagine you're in something that used to be a village
