Rogers Centre, originally named SkyDome, is a multi-purpose stadium in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada situated just southwest of the CN Tower near the northern shore of Lake Ontario. Opened in 1989 on the former Railway Lands, it is home to the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball (MLB). Previously, the stadium served as home to the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL), played an annual game at the stadium as part of the Bills Toronto Series from 2008 to 2013. While it is primarily a sports venue, it also hosts other large-scale events such as conventions, trade fairs, concerts, travelling carnivals, and monster truck shows.
The stadium was renamed "Rogers Centre" following the purchase of the stadium by Rogers Communications, which also bought the Toronto Blue Jays, in 2005. The venue was noted for being the first stadium to have a fully retractable motorized roof, as well as for the 348-room hotel attached to it, with 70 rooms overlooking the field. It is also the last North American major-league stadium built to accommodate both football and baseball. The stadium served as the site of both the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2015 Pan American Games. During the ceremonies, the site was referred to as the "Pan Am Dome" (officially as the "Pan Am Ceremonies Venue") instead of its official name.
SkyDome, called Rogers Centre since 2005, was designed by architect Rod Robbie and structural engineer Michael Allen and was constructed by the EllisDon Construction company of London, Ontario and the Dominion Bridge Company of Lachine, Quebec. The stadium's construction lasted about two and a half years, from October 1986 to May 1989. The approximate cost of construction was C$570 million ($966 million in 2016 dollars) which was paid for by the federal government, Ontario provincial government, the City of Toronto, and a large consortium of corporations.
The venue was the first major team sports stadium in North America with a functional, fully retractable roof (Montreal's Olympic Stadium also had a retractable roof, but due to operational issues, it was replaced with a permanent roof). The roof is composed of four panels and covers an area of 345,000 square feet (32,100 m2). The two middle panels slide laterally to stack over the north semi-circular panel, and then the south semi-circular panel rotates around the stadium and nests inside the stack. It takes 20 minutes for the roof to open or close.
The Renaissance Toronto Hotel is also located within Rogers Centre, with 70 rooms overlooking the field.

I used 1/2" foam for this costume because a) it's relatively inexpensive, b) it's easy to work with, and c) it was the only size they had in grey. But it needed more support so it didn't flop all over the place. I bought a sheet of "GreenGuard" insulation at Lowe's. It's basically a glorified styrofoam - light and stiff, perfect for gluing inside the costume to add structure.

This may look like a boring piece of timber. It's not (the only boring that has been done is by some woodworm....). It's a hand sawn (or axed) piece of bog oak which would formerly have been longer and used as part of the structure of a thatched cottage, holding up the roof. It comes from Clanrolla outside Lurgan (Co Armagh).
So it has several different 'stories' in its history: Its original growth as an oak tree, after it died and fell then its lying in wet ground or bog for probably several thousand years (given its location it almost certainly comes from the Lough Neagh basin), its unearthing and being cut, its incorporation into the structure of a cottage near Lurgan, its reclaiming or salvage when the cottage roof was replaced in the 1980s, and its storage until now. As to how long it held up a cottage roof I don't know except to say it is likey to have been A Long Time. Oh to have been a 'fly on the wall' during this story (preferably not a woodworm fly though....).
So to me its special. It comes complete with woodworm holes, (just visible in this photo on the right side), presumably when it was part of the cottage structure. They are probably very old but I treated the timber nonetheless when I acquired it.
This piece is about 89 cm long and around 16-17 x 14 cm in cross dimensions - it is not quite rectangular. It was cut to this length after salvage from the cottage roof. If working it in terms of carving I would hope to retain elements of its former use or shape, e.g. by keeping a couple of sides as they are.
Bog wood - mainly oak and pine - was used for all sorts of purposes (you name it and it was used for it....) in Ireland in the past when ordinary people had no access to above-the-ground timber. The Royal Alcázars of Seville or the Alcázar of Seville is a royal palace in Seville, Spain. It was built on the site of an Abbadid Muslim alcazar, which was destroyed after the Christian conquest of Seville in 1248.
The palace is a preeminent example of Mudéjar style in the Iberian Peninsula, combining Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance structural elements. The upper stories of the Alcázar are still occupied by the royal family when they visit Seville and are administered by the Patrimonio Nacional. It was registered in 1987 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, along with the adjoining Seville Cathedral and the General Archive of the Indies.

The Torre de Gas Natural ...
The last building designed by Miralles & Benedetta Tagliabue EMBT in Barcelona, this office tower—the headquarters of the national Catalan gas company—makes an impressive mark on the city’s skyline and faces the sea.
The building is usually called ‘The Gas Tower’ but, as with most Miralles projects, it has very little to do with prototypical, corporate aesthetics, or even what one would typically conceive of as a tower. Clad in different colored glass panels, the building confounds onlookers, as there’s no discernible main axis or single perspective from which to regard its geometry.
Call it “form follows urbanism”: the building stands at the crossroads between the modern Olympic Village and the traditional maritime neighborhood of La Barceloneta.
The result is something beyond a simple ‘tower’; the architecture relates no less than a new concept of space and the last (and one of the most celebrated) of Miralles’ masterworks.
