Bayan, a 10–year old from Homs, sits with her brother Khalid, 6, and cousins Akram 6, Adnan, 1, and Malak, 1, in the school run by Jordan-based community organization Islamic Charity Center Society. Bayan came with her family to Mafraq last August and was able to attend the private school. This year, ICCS can’t afford to pay her full tuition, so, “she will stay home,” Bayan’s mother, Umm Khalid, said. Mafraq, Jordan, September 13, 2012.
Back home. Time to get my tripod and shoot in the bitter cold. As my lens was getting covered with snow flakes within seconds, I managed to get only one shot from my lovely neighbourhood.

Staying Together by Being Together!
Вместе - Когда Вместе!
A few weeks ago, I posted to the group saying that I would miss "ONE" week because of school travels. Well, "one" week has turned into "four". *sigh*
It started with a trip to Baltimore to present some of my PhD research at a conference there. Then a crazy week of getting caught up at school before leaving for another week to Wisconsin to collect some DNA samples for a portion of my research. This was my first full week back, and again, more catch up.
I just signed onto Flickr to regrettably retire from the 52 Weeks project ... but couldn't do it! I've been having so much fun with this group and what I have been learning. And I want to do it again next year for Romeo. So it pained me deeply to try and retire ... and in the end I couldn't do it. So here is Gio's submission for this week. Only 10 more weeks left and I WILL finish off his project (with only 4 missing submissions ... not too bad, right??).
Gio here is perched on top of my suitcase, indicating his strong displeasure of me leaving him alone so much lately. I promise, G, no more trips until January!
Weaverville, North Carolina, April 11, 2020, 9:49am: Streets and sidewalks are almost completely deserted in this small mountain town on a beautiful Saturday morning. Hopefully, before too long, Covid-19 restrictions will be lifted when authorities determine that social distancing and quarantine is no long necessary to stop the spread of the disease.

Our cats definitely missed us while we were gone. They 'helped' me unpack, then Minnie made sure I didn't re-pack...
Today April and I stayed home while Mom and Thalia went out for the night. I had been craving Spaghetti for the longest time, and April had been in the mood for Macaroni Grill.
Unfortunately we were in sweats and our hair was all over the place, so we decided to call the restaurant and order To Go.
Well what a treat that was! Not only was it ready in less than 10 minutes (considering it was also packed for a Saturday night), but they offer a drive up service where they bring out the food to you and you don't need to get out of the car at all! It was perfect!
So we came home, our stomachs growling like crazy for having had to smell the food the whole drive back, and sat at the dining table eating our AWESOME food. No TV on, No music or phones, just a nice dinner for two =)
