Stayed home from work today to recuperate from 16 hour drive from hell yesterday, I managed to sneak a few pictures earlier this morning. I ordered a new lighting system that should be here in like two weeks that will allow me to continue pursuing photography at night (as most of the time I am too busy during the day).
A touch of filter was added to this image in post-processing.
Monday, 17 June 2024. Like yesterday, today has been rainy and gloomy. So happy to stay home. Yet another day of serious water restrictions and many more to come.
Calgary continues to be in a local State of Emergency. UPDATE on water restrictions in Calgary. 14 June 2024:
"Calgary Emergency Management Agency Chief Susan Henry said water restrictions will be needed for at least three to five more weeks." The break occurred on 5 June, as more pipe damage has been found, so we have already been going through it for 10 days. I would imagine that the heavy rain we are getting this afternoon could make a muddy mess of the whole repair area.
Tuesday, 11 June 2024: LIMIT YOUR WATER USAGE! The water main breakage issue started on 5 June 2024.
"As work to repair a break in a major feeder water main continued Tuesday, Calgarians can expect limitations on their water use to last through the weekend and into next week.
Nancy Mackay, Calgary's water services director, says the work is going to take longer than officials first expected.
"We do not have a date for the restoration of the service. Based on the information we have now, I expect to be able to share a closer date mid-next week," Mackay said on Tuesday." From the Weather Network.
Thursday, 13 June 2024:
"Work to fix a critical water main break that has triggered outdoor water restrictions has been stalled due to injuries on the work site on Wednesday night, Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek said during an 8:30 a.m. update on Thursday morning. The injured workers were taken to hospital and neither is in critical condition."

Did a drive SW of Calgary on 13 June 2024. All familiar roads. Hadn't really planned exactly where to go. Not a whole lot to see, but was happy to see two Wilson's Snipe. I was surprised at how few Mountain Bluebirds I came across on this drive, but was thankful to see the few that I did see. The sun was so bright and all but one photo were blown out.
Driving along a main road, I made a spur-of-the-moment decision to turn off on to one of the back roads. Almost immediately, I happened to glance down at the valley floor where a distant White-tailed deer caught my eye.
At one location, I thought I heard a Bobolink, which was confirmed by Merlin. This was the very first time that I had ever had a Bobolink in this area. Later on, I saw one of these rare birds at a different location, where I had seen one in May and in previous years. I waited and waited, hoping I might see or hear something. Finally, I zoomed in on a bird perched on a fence post way down the road and, sure enough, it was just what I had hoped for. Could only get a dreadful photo through the windscreen! Posted the photo just for the record. Shortly after this, I heard a Bobolink singing loudly somewhere in the trees right by my car. I looked out of the car window but couldn't find it anywhere, now that the dense leaves are all out.
You will not be able to stay home, brother
You will not be able to plug in, turn on and cop out
You will not be able to lose yourself on skag
And skip out for beer during commercials, because
The revolution will not be televised
The revolution will not be televised
The revolution will not be brought to you
By Xerox in four parts without commercial interruptions
The revolution will not show you pictures of Nixon blowing a bugle
And leading a charge by John Mitchell, General Abrams, and Spiro Agnew
To eat hog maws confiscated from a Harlem sanctuary
The revolution will not be televised
The revolution will not be brought to you by the Schaefer Award Theatre
And will not star Natalie Woods and Steve McQueen or Bullwinkle and Julia
The revolution will not give your mouth sex appeal
The revolution will not get rid of the nubs
The revolution will not make you look five pounds thinner, because
The revolution will not be televised, brother
There will be no pictures of you and Willie Mae
Pushing that shopping cart down the block on the dead run
Or trying to slide that color TV into a stolen ambulance
NBC will not be able predict the winner
At 8:32 on report from twenty-nine districts
The revolution will not be televised
There will be no pictures of pigs shooting down brothers on the instant replay
There will be no pictures of pigs shooting down brothers on the instant replay
There will be no pictures of Whitney Young
Being run out of Harlem on a rail with a brand new process
There will be no slow motion or still lifes of Roy Wilkins
Strolling through Watts in a red, black, and green liberation jumpsuit
That he has been saving for just the proper occasion
Green Acres, Beverly Hillbillies, and Hooterville Junction
Will no longer be so damn relevant
And women will not care if Dick finally got down with Jane
On Search for Tomorrow
Because black people will be in the street looking for a brighter day
The revolution will not be televised
There will be no highlights on the eleven o'clock news
And no pictures of hairy armed women liberationists
And Jackie Onassis blowing her nose
The theme song will not be written by Jim Webb or Francis Scott Keys
Nor sung by Glen Campbell, Tom Jones, Johnny Cash
Engelbert Humperdinck, or The Rare Earth
The revolution will not be televised
The revolution will not be right back
After a message about a white tornado
White lightning, or white people
You will not have to worry about a dove in your bedroom
The tiger in your tank, or the giant in your toilet bowl
The revolution will not go better with Coke
The revolution will not fight germs that may cause bad breath
The revolution will put you in the driver's seat
The revolution will not be televised
Will not be televised
Will not be televised
Will not be televised
The revolution will be no re-run, brothers
The revolution will be live

Signs with political, social, public health, and support have become common in my area this year. In the past there were occasional political signs during elections, but nothing like we are seeing now. There is a collection of those I have spotted in my album: Signs of the Times
It’s been said that a picture paints a thousand words. But the opposite can also be true. Read on …
A friend reminded me of a lovely poem by Kitty O’Meara. The words describe perfectly what we all need to do to combat Covid-19, The CoronaVirus.
Here’s the text of the poem:
And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently.
And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.
And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed.
— Kitty O'Meara, And The People Stayed Home

My final words are to ask ALL of my flickr friends around the world to stay safe, heed the advice we’re all being given, and to come out the other side of this dreadful piece of world history alive and well!
I’ll be thinking of you all and whilst I’m not a God believer, I do hope if there is a greater force that’s omnipotent, he or she can save as many lives as possible.
STAY SAFE! ❤️
It was a nice morning on the lake. A clear blue sky, a little fog and the Fall colors are just starting to show.

Continuing with posting photos from my archives. Not sure when I will get out for a drive, given that our winter weather continues. November 23 2024: lots of snow and it looked like almost 10-12 inches of snow on top of my back fence. Can't complain, though, as mild, fall weather lasted well into November, which was wonderful. So thankful that I managed to get out for groceries a few days ago, so now I can hibernate for a little while.
28 November 2024: got up early, thinking of driving south to the Saskatoon Farm. However, change of plans, as our weather yesterday morning was -17°C (feels like -23°C), with freezing fog. More freezing fog today (29 November 2024), too. Another good day to stay home! Next week is forecast to be 'warmer'.
I will be adding the description that I wrote under a different, previously posted image taken on the same day.
"This photo was taken on 8 September 2015. In the morning, I joined a group of friends for a three-hour stroll at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. 38 bird species were seen, though I didn't manage to see any of the tiny, fast-moving Warblers. It was good to see 28 Wood Ducks, but they were far, far away, in an area that is still closed due to devastating flood damage. The Sanctuary had been closed for about two years for this reason and only very recently re-opened just a part of the area.
The Calgary Zoo is very close to the Sanctuary, so after our morning walk, I decided to call in at the Zoo. I hadn't been for about a year and I really missed going there. Of course, many of the garden flowers were past their prime, but I did find a few that were fit to photograph. I love photographing the Water Lilies. They always seem to glow, as if they had a light inside.

I knew I wouldn't be able to walk far, having already been walking all morning, but I really wanted to get to the ENMAX Conservatory to see what was going on. I had been longing all summer to see the tropical butterflies and plants. The butterfly season is coming to an end for these tropical beauties, but there were still plenty of them to be seen. Also, this month, the parking lot that I use will close for the winter and I don't like the drive back home from the north parking area, using Deerfoot Trail, so tend not to go to the Zoo all winter.
There was so much activity going on at the Zoo two days ago. People everywhere, carrying large animals wrapped in white, protective coverings, preparing for the upcoming ILLUMINASIA, Lantern & Garden Festival. Each animal is an individual lantern and there are so many of them. I noticed that several of the real animals in their enclosures were watching all the unaccustomed activity, which made me smile.
A good day, despite the overcast sky, and plenty of photo opportunities. Recently, I have been finding far fewer things to photograph, with fall on its way, so a day like this was more than welcome."

Stay snug and safe everyone!
Stayed home today. My co-workers will kill me I think. I just dumped them my load of patients. But I just really can't make myself work today. Stomach still feels quesy, and I'm in my picky eating day.
Two crappy pics in a row. Blegh!
Don't you think my philtrum is a little too deep?
It's time to hunker down...it's time to eat well (and chocolate is part of eating well lol!) stay hydrated, stay snug, and stay safe.

Yes, I am taking as many precautions against that nasty virus as possible. I'm wearing masks when I have the need to go out (mainly walks around my neighborhood). I've been shopping online much more (including groceries). I've also been working from the safety of home since March, including the new job I started this past week. I sincerely hope that wherever you are, you are also doing whatever you can to avoid this dreaded disease. I don't want to get sick, and I don't want you to get sick either.
