So there I was, walking alongside a busy road, when I suddenly notice something stopped at traffic in front of me. I was utterly gobsmacked to then realise it was a Stanza, I haven't seen one moving under its own power for a good decade now! Amazingly it has just been retaxed for an entire year, so the old boy owner clearly wants to keep it running for as long as possible, excellent! An unbelievably satisfying spot, good thing I was quick enough with the camera, and that he was driving so slowly...
Clichés de Stanza, pullip Galene, avec sa toute nouvelle custo. Les couleurs froides vont, à mon goût, à merveille à ce modèle.
Enjoy !
The frescoes in the Stanza della Segnatura were the first completed by Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino (Raphael) in the Vatican. They are the artist's most famous and most admired frescoes.
This is the "School of Athens", perhaps Raphael's most famous fresco. It was the third fresco completed by Raphael in the room; between 1509 and 1511.
At the center of the fresco, at its 'perspective' focal point, are two figures striding forward. Plato's right hand points upwards and in his other hand, he holds his book ‘Timaeus’ on the formation of the universe and an explanation of its order and beauty. Beside him is Aristotle, his right hand reaching forward, also with a book in hand. ‘Ethics’ was his book on ethical theory and living a good life.
These two great philosophers are surrounded by Raphael's choices for the greatest philosophers and thinkers of the Western world up to the 16th Century. Notably, ALL are male. They are arrayed on the steps, discussing, teaching, reading and some writing books. Some bear the faces of Raphael's contemporaries; including Leonardo da Vinci as Plato and Michelangelo as Heraclitus.
The church-like building in the background was inspired by Donato Bramante's early designs to replace the original Basilica of St Peter. This is perhaps a symbolic statement that rational philosophy, human intellect and Christian theology are in harmony.
Raphael includes a self portrait of himself in the fresco, ...... he is on the far right, wearing a black beret.

The Room of the Segnatura is so named because it was where the court of the ecclesiastical tribunal, the 'Segnatura Gratiae et Iustitiae,' met during the mid-16th century.
The frescoes in the room are about the three great virtues of the humanity: Truth, Goodness and Beauty.
The two larger frescoes are on Truth. "The School of Athens" represents Rational Truth (Philosophy), while the "Disputation of the Most Holy Sacrament" represents Spiritual Truth (Theology),
On the two walls with windows are the "Cardinal and Theological Virtues and the Law" depicting Human Good, while Humanity's Beauty is presented on "Parnassus with Apollo and the Muses".
On the room's ceiling are four female figures who represent Philosophy, Theology, Poetry and Justice; each is are connected with the scene on the frescoes below .
The frescoes in the Raphael Rooms, together with Michelangelo's frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel marked the High Renaissance in Rome.
This fresco depicts the coronation of Charlemagne (Charles the Great) as the first 'Imperator Romanorum' ('Holy Roman Emperor') by Pope Leo III in 800 AD. The coronation was held inside Old St. Peter's Basilica on Christmas night.
The fresco was painted around the time of the concordat between the Papacy and France in 1515. The features of the current pontiff and king, Pope Leo X and Francis I, have been used for Leo III and Charlemagne in the painting.

This car has been scrapped after June 2015. So I was right on time recording this 80s car, which has become rare in our streets nowadays.
Posting last year finds I noticed that a lot of 80s cars have been scrapped meanwhile. This category of cars form a very vulnerable group of cars: to old to compete with current cars, to young to be considered as classic cars. Therefore they suffer by the lack of protection they deserve. They're depending on the goodness of the individual car enthusiast.
This Prairie M10-Series was introduced in Japan in 1981 and in Europe one year later. It was one of the very first compact MPV's. Naganori Ito was the designer.
In the US it was called Stanza Wagon.

... a closer look.
Pope Leo III crowns Charlemagne (Charles the Great) as the first 'Imperator Romanorum' ('Holy Roman Emperor') at Christmas in 800 AD.
The fresco was painted around the time of the concordat between the Papacy and France in 1515. The features of the current pontiff and king, Pope Leo X and Francis I, have been used for Leo III and Charlemagne in the painting.
While the title designated the 'Holy Roman Emperor' as the legal successor of the Roman Empire, it was in practice one of honour and prestige. The 'Holy Roman Emperor' was considered primus inter pares (first among equals) among all of Europe's Roman Catholic rulers.

A view of the frescoes on the Cardinal and Theological Virtues on the lunette and ceiling.
The Cardinal Virtues are represented here by women; three are on the lunette over the window: Fortitude, Prudence and Temperance. A fourth Cardinal Virtue, Justice, is represented by the woman holding a sword and scales within the round medallion directly above the lunette. The Theological Virtues: Charity, Hope and Faith are represented by cherubs (putti) in the lunette.
Fortitude is the woman (on the left) wearing armor with a lion in her lap. The cherub with her represents Charity.
'Prudence' is the woman at centre looking into a mirror; symbolizing the need for awareness of both the present and the past in making decisions for the future. The cherub here holding a torch flame represents 'Hope'.
'Temperance' is on the right; she holds a horse bridle symbolizing restraint. The winged cherub pointing up to Heaven is 'Faith'.
A fourth Cardinal Virtue, 'Justice', is directly above the fresco; within the round medallion. She is a female figure holding scales and a sword. Its greater prominence is because Justice is needed to bring balance to the other Virtues.
The two other panels on the ceiling above here are the ‘Judgement of Solomon ‘and ‘Original Sin’, both quite beautifully done.
