This room was originally a private audience chamber, and was the second of the four rooms designed/painted by Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, known as Raphael in the Apostical (or Pontifical) Palace. The Room of Heliodorus takes its name from this dramatic fresco.

Heliodorus had been sent by the King of Syria to loot treasure in the Temple of Jerusalem. Here Heliodorus is depicted being expelled from the temple by a horseman and two youths with switches.

The High Priest Onias is shown at the centre; it was in answer to his prayers that assistance in the form of the horseman was sent.

Pope Julius II, who commissioned the work, is included as a witness to the scene (on the left). He is seated in a sedan chair carried by Raphael (on the right) and Marcantonio Raimondi.

The calm and stillness of the figures on the left side and centre of the fresco contrasts with the dramatic action on the right.

Purchased print, photographer unknown. This was bought off eBay with the next two along, I presume all taken by the same person as they are dated and referenced in a similar way.

It was the Stanza 3-door RBV 76X that really caught my eye, never the most common variant in the UK and maybe no survivors left here? This particular example is long-gone, DVLA saying its last tax disc was surrendered in November 1994.

Working our way along the road, there's a 1973 Renault 12 PUN 861M which appears to be an import, first registered here in 1974. Next is a 1982 Metro 1.0 HLE CKC 991X which made it to 2000. VW Passat and Renault 5 next, then a 1979 Cortina 2.0 GL UKD 644V in that attractive gold colour, last taxed in 1997.

Beyond that there's a Peugeot 304 estate, Austin Ambassador and late-model Chevette.

Stanza V, from "September 1, 1939,"

by W. H. Auden

Faces along the bar

Cling to their average day:

The lights must never go out,

The music must always play,

All the conventions conspire

To make this fort assume

The furniture of home;

Lest we should see where we are,

Lost in a haunted wood,

Children afraid of the night

who have never been happy or good.

Here is the full text of the poem:

IMPORTANTLY, Auden came rightly to view several parts of this famous poem as dishonest, & asked that it be removed from his body of work. Here is a video in which Columbia University Professor Edward Mendelson provides a precise, moving & sometimes chilling explanation:

Stanza con vista - Room with a view

Shannon's Classic, Eastern Creek, NSW August 2016

A slight diversion from the Medler's uploads, this was a yard we visited on the way to a JAE show at Billing.

Kind of a shame the Sunny wasn't a Stanza 5-door so there was a complete set here, but at least I got the rarer two versions here.

From L-R:

B435 CFL 1985 Sunny 1.3 GS, off-road 1/10/95.

JFE 600Y 1982 Stanza 3-door, off-road 24/7/95.

XNG 156X 1982 Stanza 4-door, off-road 1/10/95. A registration that was local to me, but I don't recall seeing any others in this series.

EYR 376 V 1980 Bedford HA (ex-BT?), off-road 4/94.

I haven't got a clue if this yard is still trading. I only went there the once and I was following a friend so I can't easily recall where it was located, although I think it was out in the countryside.

It really was a rousing moment to have seen this car. A Stanza! This spot will have to be my best find this year so far.

I was told about this car by another spotter.

Same owner since 2006, I don't think the owner is taking it seriously, knowing how rare it is. This is currently the only one left on the roads for this model, 'Jubilee'.

Sadly it looks worse for wear now, after I had a look at other spotter's pictures on Flickr just a few years ago of it, it looked in great nick.

The good main thing is that it has survived to this day. A Stanza in this shape is a dinosaur sight, even in the opposite condition, enthusiast owned examples are incredibly rare, with just 1 left for all the other remaining specs on the roads.

When I had a walk around the car I thought it's laid up, because of its condition and slightly uninflated tyres, however Its still on the road and with no surprise it only does 10-30 miles a year! And still sitting on just 68k.

Clichés de Stanza, pullip Galene, avec sa toute nouvelle custo. Les couleurs froides vont, à mon goût, à merveille à ce modèle.

Enjoy !

My favourite and probably one of the rarest cars at the show. There are less than 20 Nissan/Datsun Stanzas currently taxed and this is the only Nissan 1.8 SGL among them.

Now some of you may of already knew but i picked up my new car yesterday! 36,000 Miles, One MOT Fail in 16 Years! Its also the oldest stanza left in Existence!
