In the meandering vastness of the space-time continuum, between the fixed points of Nevertime and Evertime, if you are lucky, you will find Sometime. Sometime manifests itself as temporary vortex of stability where wonderful things can happen, if only for a short period. Reality is semi-suspended, and magic becomes semi-real. Some call Sometime, “The Photo Trip.”
At the edge of Sometime, three beings set off on a Quest. Travelling from the Realm of Perpetual Misery* on the backs of Huginn and Muninn, Odin’s ravens, they are taken deep into the vortex, into the Land of Ice. As with all good Quests, the main protagonists need to be introduced. There was:
- Vilinda Bangtidy, Keeper of the Keys to the Backdoor; a lady elf of the finest visage and a surprisingly broad vocabulary of Norse curse words **
- Paulvik Cliffscrambler, regularly voted The Vanir*** Most Lacking In Common Sense.
- Sveinn Fishbreath, the Bloody Stupid; a dwarf so downright stupid that he failed to graduate from kindergarten until the age of 43.
There are many tales to tell about the week-long Quest into Sometime. Most of these are associated with specific locations and will probably be told as part of subsequent posts. For now, let me give you a summary…
Vilinda Bangtidy may be a beautiful elf but her habit of loudly regaling stories of her youth, combined her lack of social filters, resulted in a most unfortunate incident when a family of travellers overheard one of her tales about a birthday card. A mere birthday card has to be innocent, right? Well, what this family heard resulted in them running screaming back to their campervan, hands over ears, and making the most rapid of departures. Unfortunately for them, they seemed to be on exactly the same travel itinerary as our intrepid three Quest-goers. Every time Vilinda, Paulvik and Sveinn pulled up at a location, there would be a squeal of studded tyres as our campervan enthusiasts disappeared in cloud of black dust and snow. It is believed that they are still in therapy. And they probably will be for the rest of their natural lives. And afterlives.
Paulvik Cliffscrambler is a master of photography imagery. But. And it is a big “but”. Sometimes there are cognisant disconnects between his well-refined academic neurons and their grasp of basic reality. A big disconnect. Here are two (of many) examples:
While sitting in the car, sheltering from the truly ferocious winds, he was contemplating the best angle to shoot an adjacent steam vent. The plan was to position the vehicle as a kind of windbreak to protect photographer and equipment. While gazing upon the high velocity super-heated water and admiring how photogenic it looked as it was bent at 90 degrees to the horizontal by the gale, Paulvik enquired of his companions, “does anyone know which way the wind is actually blowing?”
A sea stack is a landscape photographer’s delight. Period. So obviously, any serious photographer would make every effort to climb down the mud-encrusted slippery cliff face to reach the beach. Only, most sensible photographers would give at least a smidgeon of consideration if they could make it back up. Paulvik didn’t. After much slipping and sliding, and using his top-of-the-range tripod as a climbing pick, Paulvik made it back up to the starting point, looking very much like an extra from The Walking Dead****. He had a very similar demeanour, too*****.
Sveinn Fishbreath, the Bloody Stupid got his name through one incident for the former part and multiple incidents for the second part. While stopping off in a local trading post, our protagonist, Sveinn, spies some Icelandic Jerky******. Obviously he just has to purchase a jumbo-sized family bag. For some bizarre reason, his comrades do not want to partake in this fishy feast, despite his enticing encouragement. “It’s full of protein”, he said. “It’s very tasty”, he said. “You should try some”, he said. “I can’t stop eating it”, he said…. “Stop the car”, he said, “I feel very sick!”. Despite brushing of the teeth, four times a day, the taste was still there at the end of the Quest into Sometime*******. Alas, there are too many tales of Bloody Stupidity to fully document here. Let’s just focus on one. When most people are reversing out of a parking space and there is a sort of grinding sound and something is impeding motion they stop and get out to see what the obstruction is. They don’t pull forward and then try reversing at higher speed to overcome the obstacle. Repeatedly. Sveinn is now the owner of a very bent tripod.
All of the above is true. Some bits were left out due to censorship rules. It was an epic trip into Sometime, and I am deeply grateful to my companions, shutterbug_uk2012 and Lindi m for not throwing me out of the car during the dried fish incident.

** the Anglo-Saxons take the credit for swearing, but in reality they plagiarised the utterances of Thor when he, rather stupidly, attempted to do DIY with Mjölnir, his famous hammer. His thumb will never be the same shape again.
*** a group of gods that, in modern culture, have been relegated to “lesser gods” compared to the Æsir. The Æsir have a better PR department. Paulvik is not happy about this.
**** One of the ones that have been lurking in the bottom of a swamp for the past few years, gently decaying and developing a murderous personality
***** With hindsight, Vilinda and Sveinn could have provided a bit more practical help. And not spent the twenty-or-so minutes doubled up laughing and taking snaps on their phones.
****** This commonly known as salted rotting dried fish. The fish bit is debatable, the rotting bit is not. Whatever is was, it stank. And I mean truly stank. But this was not known at the time of purchase as it was cunningly stored in a hermetically sealed bag.
******* On returning home, Mrs Sveinn was very suspicious as to why Mr Sveinn had a distinctly fishy breath. Enough said.

Michelangelo Buonarroti (Caprese, 6 March 1475 - Rome, 18 February 1564) - David (1501-1504) (in Piazza della Signoria there is a copy) - Carrara marble size 517×199 cm - Galleria dell'Accademia, Florence
This astonishing Renaissance sculpture was created between 1501 and 1504. It is a 14.0 ft marble statue depicting the Biblical hero David, represented as a standing male nude. Originally commissioned by the Opera del Duomo for the Cathedral of Florence, it was meant to be one of a series of large statues to be positioned in the niches of the cathedral’s tribunes, way up at about 80mt from the ground. Michelangelo was asked by the consuls of the Board to complete an unfinished project begun in 1464 by Agostino di Duccio and later carried on by Antonio Rossellino in 1475. Both sculptors had in the end rejected an enormous block of marble due to the presence of too many “taroli”, or imperfections, which may have threatened the stability of such a huge statue. This block of marble of exceptional dimensions remained therefore neglected for 25 years, lying within the courtyard of the Opera del Duomo (Vestry Board).
Michelangelo was only 26 years old in 1501, but he was already the most famous and best paid artist in his days. He accepted the challenge with enthusiasm to sculpt a large scale David and worked constantly for over two years to create one of his most breathtaking masterpieces of gleaming white marble.
The Vestry Board had established the religious subject for the statue, but nobody expected such a revolutionary interpretation of the biblical hero.

As most of you who have seen my sliders sunday posts know, I'm a photoshop guy. I use Lr for basic editing, mostly drawing things back from blocked blacks and clipped highlights. Then I go to Ps for editing using ideas from Tony Kuyper, who teaches the utilization of luminosity based channels and masks. This creates self feathered selections that can be used for dodging, burning, etc.
Well, being off this week from work, I downloaded the Google Nik collection of editing apps. I've spent a lot of time watching youtube videos teaching me how U Point technology and Control Points work.
Let me tell you, my world has been expanded!
The U Point technology underlying the Control Points creates self feathering selections that allow very fine control over brightness, contrast, structure (clarity-ish) and other stuff.
The above image was first turned to black and white in Lr. Then I did my customary editing in Ps. Wondering what I could do with it in Nik, I created a new Ps file, duplicated the background layer and made it a smart layer so that the Nik stuff would be a smart filter and I could reopen it and do more or change things.
Since the image was already b/w, I chose to use the Nik Viveza 2 plug-in. I am amazed at the fine control that can be achieved for selective dodging and burning. I may have been able to do some of this in Ps with what I know, but Viveza gave me extraordinary control.
I would add a few control points, make adjustments. Then click OK in Viveza after every few adjustments. The apps then made the changes in the smart layer in Ps, and I would Save. I have to do that as my computer is getting long in the tooth, and there are stability problems with my Ps CS4. And because the Nik stuff was a smart filter in a smart layer, I could go reopen Viveza and do more.
In the first comment box below I have embedded my first version of this scene, done just in Lr and Ps, without Nik Viveza. I think you'll agree that the Viveza version is much more dynamic, and gets the eye moving through frame in a much more directed fashion.
So, thank you for listening to my gushing praise of Nik, and I hope that it spurs some research into how it might allow more creativity in our artistic endeavors.
Here is a close-up of the Flanker's nose. The downward angle of the nose was difficult to model correctly. In my MiG-29 Fulcrum model, I used a flexible tube and some strategic spacing to achieve a similar profile, but due to the size and scale of the Flanker's nose, I knew I needed something different. I used cheese slopes and hinged plates to achieve the profile, and the internal structure is comprised of plates (both upside down and right-side up) connected with reversing hinge plates. I also used knobbed bricks and vertical plates for extra stability. Also, note the slight dihedral angle of the air intakes.

The Pacific Coast of Nicaragua was settled as a Spanish colony from Panama in the early 16th century. Independence from Spain was declared in 1821 and the country became an independent republic in 1838. Britain occupied the Caribbean Coast in the first half of the 19th century, but gradually ceded control of the region in subsequent decades. Violent opposition to governmental manipulation and corruption spread to all classes by 1978 and resulted in a short-lived civil war that brought the Marxist Sandinista guerrillas to power in 1979. Nicaraguan aid to leftist rebels in El Salvador caused the US to sponsor anti-Sandinista contra guerrillas through much of the 1980s. Free elections in 1990, 1996, and again in 2001 saw the Sandinistas defeated. The country has slowly rebuilt its economy during the 1990s, but was hard hit by Hurricane Mitch in 1998.
Nicaragua, one of the hemisphere's poorest countries, faces low per capita income, flagging socio-economic indicators, and huge external debt. Distribution of income is one of the most unequal on the globe. While the country has made progress toward macroeconomic stability over the past few years, a banking crisis and scandal has shaken the economy. Nicaragua will continue to be dependent on international aid and debt relief under the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) initiative. Donors have made aid conditional on the openness of government financial operation, poverty alleviation, and human rights. Nicaragua met the conditions for additional debt service relief in December 2000. Growth should move up moderately in 2003 because of increased private investment and exports.

On Thursday, August 11, the full moon in Aquarius, colloquially known as the Sturgeon Supermo will appear in the sky, king it the last so-called supermoon of 2022. As a reminder, new moons are when we plant and plan, while full moons are when we harvest, energy culminates, and we learn new and unexpected things. When the moon is full, it is halfway through its lunar cycle and the brightest it will ever be for that cycle. But where can you see the full moon tonight — and what does this particular moon mean (astrologically)? How will it impact you?
In the English language, we often talk about light as bringing new information and insight. The moon is one of two lights in the sky (the other being the sun) and, when it is at its brightest, it often makes us aware of things we hadn’t realized before. It literally allows us to see more at night; the mystery of night is illuminated and we can see through the darkness. When we see that darkness, the parts of ourselves we don’t want to see, we can release it. Perhaps that is why we talk about full moons as being a time of releasing, letting go, and saying goodbye.
How Will the Aquarius Full Moon Impact You?
Archetypically, an Aquarius full moon is not an easy time. Here's why: Aquarius looks at the big picture from a thousand feet in the air and can see the patterns and understand how everything fits together. Aquariuses are known for their vision, idealism, and individuality. The moon, on the other hand, rules Cancer and is very emotional, changeable, concerned with her inner world, and easily picks up the energies of other planetary bodies.
When the moon is in Aquarius, we can feel somewhat detached from emotions and have a desire to retreat from them. Therefore, a full moon in Aquarius is a time when we might be confronted with our desire to figure everything out with logic. We can feel frustrated with an Aquarius full moon, wanting answers and not being able to fully release our frustration.
Why Is It Sometimes Called a "Sturgeon Supermoon"?
As I covered before in my last Supermoon article, the words "super" and "sturgeon" (and similar phrases) are not astrological terms. "Super" is closer to an astronomical prefix and pertains to the size of the full moon in the sky. The "Sturgeon Supermoon," on the other hand, was historically the time of year when "giant sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this part of summer," according to Farmer’s Almanac, which goes on to list alternate names this moon has historically been known by in some indigenous communities, such as the Algonquin term "Corn Moon" and the Cree term "Flying Up Moon."
What's Happening With the Planets in August 2022?
We are in the middle of the lunar cycle that started with the Leo new moon, because Aquarius is opposite Leo. At the focal point of the T-square, we have the North Node (a celestial point relating to our soul’s purpose), Uranus (planet of inspiration and rebellion), and Mars (the planet of will and action). Uranus and Mars are both in Taurus, asking us to take inspired, slow action around our need for security and stability, and even more concretely, our finances. They are being squared by the moon, our emotional inner life, and conjunct to Saturn, planet of discipline and responsibility. When Saturn is conjunct to the moon, we can feel the weight of the world on our shoulders. This aspect might spur you into action but i think it’s more likely to be an overwhelming full moon. Whatever situation, you’re dealing with, it won’t be fixed by cold Aquarian logic or Taurean common sense. And with the Sun still in Leo opposite Moon and Saturn, watch out for not wanting to admit when you’re wrong — or other people doing it.

While thinking about what I should build next, I realized that I've never built a plane before; so here's my first-ever serious plane - the iconic P-51 Mustang. I ended up sacrificing some aesthetic quality on the backs of the wings for stability, so this MOC is actually quite swooshable!

"I stare out across the endless sea, the stars above my only guide. Each wave carries me farther from home, yet my heart clings to the soil where I was born. They may have taken me from my land, but they can't steal my dreams. I've miles to go before I sleep, but one day, my feet will find that sacred ground again. And when they do, oh, how the earth will rejoice beneath me."

Thanks to one of my flickr contacts I know know this building is called Blaak 8 and the Architects were Group A and Dreissen Architecten. It's the headquarters for the Dutch Energy Company Stedin.
Click here to see more of my shots from Rotterdam :
www.flickr.com/photos/darrellg/albums/72157700872931264
From the archello.com/project/offices-blaak-8 website : "The structure of a tree with its natural constructional logic, has been the inspiration for the facade design. At the top, where the forces are relatively small, the tree exists of thin twigs. At the bottom, where the forces from the entire crown come together and must be carried, the trunk of the tree looks broad and strong. It is this natural structure that has served as inspiration for the load-bearing facade of Blaak 8. On the lower floors heavy piers reflect the 'tree-trunks' which extend upwardly branching out into smaller piers that reflect the 'tree-tops'. The tower owes its stability to this diagonal fluttering 'branches'. The unconventional facade structure ensures the building to be experienced as abstract from various viewpoints, and from other positions the tree structure to be clearly visible."

Here alone in Australia we sit in horror at the extent of the fires rampage across the country. Unprecedented fires and weather in the history of our existence (well what is on record)
Whilst horrific - the earth we live on has always been full of cyclic changes.
Ancient cities have been discovered under the sea, we are naive to think that the world as we know it will remain the same.
What continents exist now may no longer exist. What coast line exists now is slowly being swallowed up by the ocean.
Volcanic eruptions are changing the face of the planet as are earthquakes - the list is long.
We cannot stop the force of Mother Nature. We live on a planet that has always endured such destruction.
We have pole shifts taking place - all kinds of catastrophic events happening across the Globe. We are but a spit in the ocean to the wide Galaxies that we know of. Yet we think we are precious in some way.
I cannot help but wonder why I was so drawn to create this "Black Winged Goddess" let alone give her the name of Black Winged Goddess. But I was drawn, my soul was pushing me for weeks with a "slight vision" of what I needed to create. It now makes total sense to me why I was so drawn to create The Black Winged Goddess, given the state of our world and humanity.
My soul as always when I listen guides me with powerful messages and reminds me to just 'be' to accept 'what is'.
We may not like the current state of our world but it is what it is and all we can do is stay strong within ourselves and hold the power of 'love' in our hearts despite seeing so much being played out on the planet.
Kali (Hindu) - was known as a deity of the Fearsome Demon destroying Goddess who represents death and rebirth - so her name means "Black One".
We can never truly comprehend or understand the power of mother nature - we have abused her for centuries, taken her for granted and she is a living breathing consciousness so powerful that we dare not go up against here.
In recent years we have seen the influence of the feminine energy on earth which for eons has been dominated by the male energy.
So it makes complete sense to me that we are witness to so much destruction on the planet.
We are witness to the destruction of our societies as we know it, breakdown of families, law, politics.
So much of humanity is at war with the 'system', the injustices, and the lack of balance within our society. The homeless, the abused, the forgotten souls, the mental health issues that seem to have become rampant, the rise of Corporate wealth while humanity is trapped in slavery. We have learnt nothing as a humanity over the past how many hundred years?
In order for rebirth, for new growth, a culling needs to take place - hence the energy of the Black Winged Goddess she is both the Destroyer and the Giver of New Life.
We have elected to be here at this time on the planet - despite the suffering we witness or endure - I know at a higher level it is absolutely necessary for real change to take place.
Our world is a very different place to the one we have known - and whilst we have believed we have had a safe and reasonable planet in which to live, the reality is much Evil has existed and people have been brainwashed to the point of being zombies. There has been so much suppression imposed upon humanity even to the extreme of vaccinations and fluoride to our water supply. All of these chemicals act as suppressants to our brain! It has been a deliberate agenda of the existing power on earth. Their agenda has always been to rule, control and suppress the populous.
Humanity is awakening and with this will be uproar, dis - ease, a culling if you like. It is time for humanity to step out of fear and into their true power which is within each and every one of us.
New growth, new beginnings but not before the dismantling of the old - it has to be this way.
These times we are living through were written in history.
So I have created "The Black Winged Goddess" she is available in different styles, inside a Dome with beautiful etched glass or stand alone. She will rotate or can be static.
She is available on MP in the Stand Alone version (rotating) or can be seen in world at my store.
I hope you enjoy and embrace 'The "Black Winged Goddess' and rather be in fear of her - understand she brings 'New Life" but first the old has to die for the new to be born.
How appropriate for a New Year of 2020 fast approaching.
Interestingly and unconsciously I created 4 of these Black Winged Goddesses.
The year 2020 equates to the number 4 in Numerology.
The #4 represents a Universal energy. (see below for a deeper understanding of the #4)
The # 2 - Is the most feminine and often underestimated when it comes to power and strength. She is always gentle, tactful, diplomatic, forgiving and understanding. She likes to keep peace and likes to avoid confrontation. # 2 is the survivor and extremely resilient force. Her shape looks as though she is bent back on a knee with head bowed in humility and service. However when enough pressure is applied to the # 2 energy. Some would perceive her as weak and powerless due to this servitude shape. However never underestimate the power behind #2 because she represents the power (double) #1 who is the all powerful warrior who will shake and destroy no matter what. So #2 brings the balance but never underestimate the power of 2 Energy.
The #4 Energy in more detail
The 4 is without a doubt masculine, reflecting strength and stability. His chief characteristics are dependability, productivity, punctuality and obedience. He is trustworthy, patient, conventional and a traditionalist.
Tend to be rule followers. 4 is the area of sciences, upholding the law (such as Government and the military). The #4 represents Disciplined, systematic, Dependable, Strong. Loyal
Four is the basis of all solid objects. Four points are used in constructing the simplest solid and thus four is the number symbolizing the way of construction. In many religions, four is seen as the number for earth, and representing the four elements, Air Earth, Water and Fire.
At its extreme 4's can tend to overreact to violence.
So 2020 seems to have more challenges ahead and I suspect we will be seeing more uprising across the planet (#2 energy) with totalitarianism (#4 energy) being played out like never before. Perhaps more of what the world has witnessed in Hong Kong this year.
It is as if the two energies Masculine & Feminine are battling against one another. But at the same time I cannot help but feel and acknowledge UNITY - and this is what I will remain focused upon during the year ahead. We must stand united. We are after all 'one humanity'
We are without doubt living in very challenging times.
May peace be with you!

Khao Hin Thoen Stone Park is located in Prachuap Khiri Khan province in the narrowest part of Thailand, which is only 15 kilometers wide, close to the border with Myanmar Burma. Khao Hin Theun Stone Park is a hilly area where many large granite stones are stacked naturally. The fact that these large rocks appear to remain balanced despite their size and weight reminds us of the delicate balance and stability in nature. It is a reminder of the forces of nature and the unique geological processes that create such formations. These formations are often the result of centuries of geological processes, including erosion, sedimentation, landslides and other forces. It's amazing how nature can create these complex structures over time. From the top of the hill you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Gulf of Thailand and the surrounding coastline. Just a few kilometers away, at the Singkhon checkpoint, is the border with Myanmar; a route with rich historical significance as it once served as a military trail during the late Ayutthaya period. At the summit there is also a secluded temple built between three large massive granite boulders. Essentially an open cave, this temple is a hidden gem maintained by a lone monk. This venerable monk, now 78 years old, has been living here in solitude for more than 40 years. The temple and living area are built into the large boulders. Surrounded by lush green forests, this open temple cave also offers an opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty and tranquility. Hiking trails are available for those who want to enjoy the natural environment. The peaceful surroundings and natural beauty make it a popular place for meditation and contemplation.
Khao Hin Thoen Stone Park, situated near Hua Hin,. The park is a remarkable natural wonder where numerous colossal boulders are ingeniously stacked, creating an extraordinary and unique attraction. Next to the granite boulders I find a beautiful flower. The Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, also known as the Chinese hibiscus, is a tropical flowering plant known for its beautiful, vibrant flowers. These flowers are not only visually attractive, but also play a crucial ecological role because they are nectar productive. A sugary liquid that serves as a food source for various pollinators, including bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other insects. Nectar is essential to the survival of these pollinators because it gives them the energy they need for flight and sustenance. As these pollinators land on the flowers to collect nectar, they inadvertently transfer pollen from one flower to another, facilitating the plant's reproductive process.
the battle of tewkesbury 1471
The Battle of Tewkesbury, which took place on 4 May 1471, was one of the decisive battles of the Wars of the Roses. The forces loyal to the House of Lancaster were completely defeated by those of the rival House of York under their monarch, King Edward IV. The Lancastrian heir to the throne, Edward, Prince of Wales, and many prominent Lancastrian nobles were killed during the battle or were dragged from sanctuary two days later and immediately executed. The Lancastrian king, Henry VI, who was a prisoner in the Tower of London, died or was murdered shortly after the battle. Tewkesbury restored political stability to England until the death of Edward IV in 1483.

Two different views of Love & Stability by Reilly Creative.
Husband and wife duo Reilly Creative’s design has taken inspiration from Southampton’s flag, designed in 2017. It depicts an anchor and a Tudor rose. They have taken these elements and with a nod to the beautiful windows that can be found in Saint Marys Church, have turned them into a stained-glass effect design. We have called it Love, to represent the delicate rose and Stability, for the strength of an anchor.
Sponsored by Southampton Hospitals Charity
Over the summer of 2024, Southampton Hospitals Charity will be lighting up the South with a large-scale public art event that promises to captivate your senses and ignite your imagination.
There will be 40 8ft magnificent lighthouse sculptures on display through the streets and public spaces of Southampton and Cowes, each one a unique masterpiece designed by artists both local and well renowned, plus 40 mini lighthouses designed by local education groups, creating a family-friendly trail of discovery for visitors and residents to enjoy and explore.
The lighthouses will then be displayed together for a Farewell event in September 2024 which will be a chance to see all lighthouses gathered in one place, a truly unique sight. The sculptures will then go into auction to raise vital funds for Southampton Children’s Hospital.
