On February 11, 1861, President elect Abraham Lincoln gave a farewell speech to his friends in Springfield at this train station. He boarded the train and spent the next four years guiding the Union states through the American Civil War. Lincoln eventually returned to Springfield on May 3, 1865, on a Funeral Train.

The back door enters into an entryway which connects to the kitchen. The floors in the kitchen, laundry room, entryway and pantry are blue and white ceramic tile.
