On February 11, 1861, President elect Abraham Lincoln gave a farewell speech to his friends in Springfield at this train station. He boarded the train and spent the next four years guiding the Union states through the American Civil War. Lincoln eventually returned to Springfield on May 3, 1865, on a Funeral Train.

We had about 30 volunteers removed an old ramp and install new one at the home of a man who's had both of his legs amputated in the last year. We also installed a new storm door, replaced some rotten subfloor, installed new plank flooring, a new tub and fixture, a 36-inch pocket door for accessibility in the bathroom, and widened the bedroom door as well. We moved a second bedroom door to allow room for the bathroom pocket door. We moved some cable lines onto the family's crawl and attic. We brought them some Springfield swag and cooked out for the crew, the family and other family and friends. We will be going back to make some cabinet changes to accept a stove that a family friend had purchased for them.
