Spectacular springs are undoubtedly the main attraction at Wes Skiles Peacock Springs State Park, but it's also a fantastic place to take a refreshing walk in the woods. In the winter months, maple and other trees bring Peacock to life with the colors of autumn, a rare feature in Florida.
Although the flowers are blooming and the cherry blossoms are already slightly past peak, the temperatures still say winter. After our very cold winter, everyone is wondering where is spring...

A naturally deep-colored spring not far from Lake Monroe, in Florida. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the owners and promoters of this spring lured many tourists who had heard of its "curative" qualities. It's now surrounded by park land, but it's so obscure today that there isn't even a Wikipedia entry about this beautiful spring.
There is something about Spring that makes me want to play with sepia. Maybe it's because in the UK we still have cold overcast days and the swathes of white blossom take on a cold monotone appearance, which arouses a longing for warmer days, and sepia is a way of warming them. Or maybe I'm just quirky lol!
This photograph of Wild Cherry blossom (?) was taken on such a day. I've tinted with sepia just to hint at warmer days ahead.

When I returned to school after Spring Break, everything had started to bloom. So, my photographer and I got together and held my Spring Kitsuke photoshoot, to go with my Autumn and Winter one... I will eventually load the Winter one here.
This is my antique ensemble, with a late Taisho/early Showa period houmongi featuring some kind of flower (I think it's something the artist made up), a fukuro obi with a design of cranes, and in some photos my Taisho period rose michiyuki. I also have the kasa I got from Kamishichiken, which apparently belonged to a maiko/geiko named Katsusen.

So, I've been wanting to do something something very surrealist looking...and something that looked a lot like a painting, so this is the result.
Kind of inspired by the fact that spring is rapidly approaching and which means warmth which means my creativity will be a bit more "free". Plus I can't wait to be able to shoot some more organic photo's outside with my 50mm f1.8 lens that I got for Christmas!
