A quick word about this location. The pond was used by local Carp anglers and was a by-product of the former Birtley Ironworks slag tip and flooded and stocked by the anglers. This was my own special spot, and as far as I know, no one else ever used it. The location was cleared and kept thus for several years. A place to observe the evening freights against big skies although you had to accept it was not possible to stop the fastest moving trains side-on with the wide-angle 75mm f4 on the Pentax 6X7 with 200 ASA Ektachrome EPD - but the scene was more important! My dog, Rex, was always with me here and enjoyed it as much as I, especially when he was 'chasing' the stoned Clockwork Gangs through the adjoining alder grove! Inter City 125 HST at a frozen Springs Pond, Ouston Junction, on the 1100 London Kings Cross-Newcastle. 9th December 1985

My first spring with a garden and the fruits of my fall plantings are showing modestly. Scattered drifts of Muscari (aka Grape Hyacinth) poke through the front of the border.
