Perhaps spring will arrive early this year; that is the hope. 9 degrees Fahrenheit is for the birds, albeit this American Robin seems to be doing just fine. A harbinger for an early spring?

Taking a little break from looking at my Florida photos I went in search of Spring lambs yesterday afternoon and found them at Stoneywish nature reserve. Lambs are out in the fields everywhere at this time of year, of course, but I particularly love the lambs at Stoneywish because they don't have huge ear tags and they're not covered in red paint. This little one hopped up onto mum's woolly back and settled down happily. His or her black sibling was a bit too slow off the mark. :)

A beautiful spring day on the Isle of Portland.
This is Church Ope Cove, where the beach huts are overlooked by the late 15th century remains of Rufus Castle. The ruins of St Andrew's Church are not visible in this photograph. I've mentioned in the past that the Isle of Portland seems a 'place apart' from the mainland. Further evidence comes from The Encyclopedia of Portland History that explains "Ope" was a local word for "an opening down to the water's edge".
Not surprisingly, being one of the few beaches on Portland, the cove has a long history of smuggling, fishing and also, piers no longer in situ for nearby quarrying. More bizarrely, in the 1950's, it was the landing site for two Russian agents aided by what became known as the Portland Spy Ring!
Dogwood Spring is one of five springs available for swimming at Ginnie Springs, a campground located outside of High Springs, FL. With its multitude of swimming holes right along the Sante Fe River, those looking for water activities have numerous options available. Overnight visitors have the ability to camp directly alongside the springs, which is certainly a benefit to campers though perhaps a detriment to those who want pure scenic quality.
Though Ginnie Springs on its own is a virtual spring mecca, it is but one location amongst many spring-based attractions just along the Sante Fe River, which runs northwest of Gainesville. Even more can be found along the Suwannee River, which takes in the Sante Fe not too distant from Ginnie Springs.
Walking on this nice and sunny, warm spring day, I felt a lightness and a spring in my step.
How could I not be drawn to the wisdom of nature. The natural flow of life...
With camera in hand, I played with some different shutter speeds, having some fun, both taking photos and just listening to the water flow.
As I look at this photo, I can see the water flow through the rocks, but also I notice an energizing quality and playfulness, rather like a ‘Spring Dance’

I was actually looking for insects while I walked my dog the other day when I noticed the beautiful evening light streaming through the trees, lighting up these lovely spring leaves---I wasn't sure what type of tree it was, as I'm not familiar enough when they don't have full leaves, so thank you to Dave Maunder for the ID (Sycamore).
The scent of spring flowers was sweet and my nose led the way as much as my eyes. Looks best on black "L". On the left of the photograph is an iridium flare.

On March 22, 2021, I made a quick visit to Frear Park in Troy, New York, USA. Spring is slow in arriving, but, remembering the location from a previous year, I noticed this one tulip leaf. These are from last year. I haven't been able to get out and explore the woods at all due to weather, work, farm, and other duties! I hope to this afternoon though if the rains stops!

Yesterday was the first day of Spring, but it didn't really feel like it. Like today, it was temps in the 40's, near constant rain, and gloomy and overcast which feels more like a Portland Winter day. Earlier this week and last, we had "Spring" weather with warmer temps, an unpredictable mix of rain, hail and sun, resulting in dramatic and ominous clouds and even a rainbow.
I seem to say every season is my favorite as it approaches, but Spring just might be. Budding and flowering trees, the earliest bulbs sprouting from the warming soil, and even the glow of the LED grow lights in my kitchen serve as markers that Spring is en route.
On a smaller scale, I love the water droplets. Instead of a constant drizzle that saturates and runs off, water beads and has a chance to stick around for a bit, like on this lupine leaf in my garden. Spring clouds float by at a good clip allowing the sun to come in and out, highlighting these beautiful little jewels of Spring.

porto has been always on a top of my wish list since this lovely city is a sister city to my hometown (nagasaki). 500 years ago the king of portugal sent christian missions and some marchants to japan and they opened a port in a small fishing village in the west end of japan, where the history of nagasaki started.
in my boyhood, i was always excited when i learn something about this history and became proud that our city has some european atmosphere.
by the way, this photo was taken with 245 seconds exposure. the flow of the river was very fast and i learned for the first time that we can get a clear reflection even though the water is not still.
