Newfield Spring Wood, Moss Valley Woodlands Nature Reserve, the upper Moss Valley, Derbyshire, near Sheffield, England, with stands of Wood Anemone and (just flowering) Bluebell.

 

Nice to have the chance to revisit the Upper Moss Valley, my old 'stomping ground,' on a glorious April day!

While more snow and cold weather are likely in the next couple of months, after mid-March we start to have warm days that bring out a few crocuses (www.flickr.com/photos/75837486@N06/16189066983) and insects, such as the wonderfully ornamented leafhopper (family Cicadellidae) seen here. Leafhoppers are a diverse family of insects, with over 20,000 species, more than all mammal, bird, reptile, and amphibian species combined. They consume plant sap using specialized mouthparts that tap into the plumbing (phloem) that moves the products of photosynthesis around the plant.
