Another brief floral interlude, brief since one or two of my favourite subjects - my Philadelphus and Lathyrus - aren't yet in flower. Fortunately my Astrantia are, and this deep pink is a new one, filling a gap where I've lost a large shrub.

An evening mood in the Allgaeu landscape.

I love the beauty of spring. Funny I had forgotten the unpleasant impacts of pollen.

First Daffodils of Season

Chesterfield County, Virginia

Continuing along the path to early spring marked three weeks ago with a photo of our first crocuses of 2018, we now daffodils in bloom. Actually, the several clumps of daffodils at the corner or our lot have been in bloom for a couple of days. It was nearing the sunset hour on an overcast day, so I used a UV filter rather than a CPOL, and used the 100-400mm lens hand-held. Perhaps I didn't go out for photos earlier because I didn't want to be reminded that leaves have continued to accumulate since they were raked and bagged earlier.

My daughter got to play with one of my cameras today.

around the house. Yay!

By the way, one of the things about this house that really grew on me are these green-ish tiles. I hated them when we moved in, but kind of like them now. Weird.

Spring Sunrise at East Bay, Livermore, CA

A sunrise burn before raining days.

This is the scene I have been chased lately - spring green rolling hills, morning lights at right center, water reflection. All I want to add in the scene are low fog at right spot, and wild flowers.

Elemental mountain railroading as NS train 65J grinds up towards the summit of the Allegheny mountains on April 29, 2006, as seen from Tunnelhill, Pennsylvania. Sadly the view from this location is now obscured by significant tree growth.

The train has climbed past the Horseshoe Curve, out of the picture to the right, and its rear end, with a pair of "pusher" locomotives can be seen at the upper right; below them is the U.S. route 22 freeway.

At the right is the more steeply-graded track referred to as "The Slide", used almost exclusively by eastbound trains descending the grade.

Anyone else waiting somewhat impatiently for spring? I wasn't paying attention to what the groundhogs predicted so I hope it's on it's way soon!

There's just something about these last couple weeks of February that seem to drag on forever, like winter is wanting to hold on just a little bit more before letting go and giving in to spring. I can't wait for the longer days, the warmer evenings and the flowers to start appearing everywhere we look!

What's your favourite part of spring?
