The Canary Spring of the upper terrace of Mammoth Hot Springs is one of the most variable, ever changing features in the park. The flow of water from the springs changes periodically, with some pools drying up while other pools become reinvigorated. I very much like the way the springs looked while I was there. I've seen other pictures of this long dead tree where the pools in front of it have the dry white chalky appearance of the ridges behind it. With water in these pools, with a lovely yellow to orange colored bacteria, I was able to get this really nice evening reflection of the tree with the cloud obscured setting sun and the Gallatin Range providing a nice backdrop.
2024 Weekly Alphabet Challenge, Week 10, J for Jigsaw The magnolia tree in our garden is out in bloom at least three weeks early ! Made into a kind of jigsaw puzzle for this week's theme.

Our Spring is late, so this flower from last Spring in Greece is a great reminder of what Spring will bring.
Not sure what type of flower this is, but it sure has some beautiful sunny colours.

Crystal Springs Preserve is in Zephyrhills, FL. It was once open to the public to visit but has had entry restricted to groups and booked events for some time in order to preserve the spring and grounds. In addition to the namesake springs group, the preserve features an enjoyable boardwalk and views of the Hillsborough River.

Looks like a typical Central Valley spring storm is clearing up as an SP crane move takes the connector from Santa Fe to Southern Pacific at Stockton, CA; observed during one of my trips home from Texas. Santa Fe Stockton Tower is behind me to my left. The diamond under the gondola is a crossing with the connector between Santa Fe and UP's former Western Pacific main. Of course, most of the railroad elements in this scene are now gone, except for BNSF's ex-Santa Fe trackage.
Out with the old, in with the new.

Gemini Springs is a park centered around its namesake spring in Debary, FL, just on the edge of the St. Johns River in Volusia County, FL. It recently came to light that land surrounding this spring which was given to the city of Debary as conservation land to ensure the continuance of flow at Gemini Springs (which was open to swimming in the nineties but had to close due to its reduced flow leading to high levels of bacteria) has been slated for construction of a housing development, which while not occupying and destroying Gemini Springs directly would such negatively affect the springshed as to perhaps fatally damage the spring over time. Centerpiece to this plan is a St. Johns Water Management District employee who has arranged for his private company to receive large payments while being employed to help orchestra this process in an obvious conflict of interest and corruption. Florida scarcely needs yet another housing community indistinguishable for all the rest and taking more and more middle class home buyers away from small towns, and irrevocably altering the environment while doing so is even more of a travesty.
This Griz was eating spring roots in an open patch of tundra in Denali National Park. This photo was taken at about 300 yards, thinking he heard the clicking of the shutter, he gave a quick glance before continuing his meal.

Spring is here, and the Spring Peepers (Pseudacris crucifer)
are out in force. Once a year, the Rivanna Conservation Alliance opens the Scheier Natural Area in Fluvanna County VA at night for people to see (and hear!) the peepers and other frogs that come to the ponds there. This photo of a peeper might fill your screen, but the frog itself is only about an inch (2.5cm) long!

Compared to winter, the options to shoot L516 start to open up in spring. Thanks to a quick stop at the autoport, just one car this day, they would be east of town a ways before dark. The sky was showing some potential so I gave chase out to Cylon. It wasn't exactly what I imagined but with the sun on the horizon enough glint happened and I rather like the dark purple cloud deck. Starting to get that unsettled change of seasons feeling. April 10, 2024.
