Spring isn't green only

The sunshine gleams so bright and warm,

The sky is blue and clear.

I run outdoors without a coat,

And spring is almost here.

Then before I know it,

Small clouds have blown together,

Till the sun just can't get through them,

And again, it's mitten weather.

just for fun...!

"Spring Sunset" 2017

Spring is in full swing - everything is turning green, weather is tricky, sometimes warm, sometimes rainy.

Here, a cat that's living somewhere around. This poor kitten is definitely underfed, and obviously isn't the happiest cat around, I hope to catch some time out of the office soon to take proper care.

Taken with Panasonic GX7 digital mirrorless camera and adapted Konica Hexanon AR 52mm F1.8 manual lens on AR-m43 adapter. Wide-open aperture, at reasonably close to minimum focusing distance, to have as much bokeh as possible. Not bad!

Very sad update, a month later: that cute cat, unfortunately, did not make it through. I haven't managed to catch some break from the office and take proper care, my parents did as much as they could, but it simply wasn't enough. :(

We were still quite cold towards the end of last week, and then in 24 hours hit spring time temperatures and even staying over freezing throughout the night.

Hope there's no smack of reality coming to tell us we're not out of the woods yet!

Finally, birds are returning and the air is filled with bird song. High time to dust off the camera, try to remember how to use it and go out to find some birds to photograph.

Quite different from the South Coast in California where I could photograph birds pretty much all year long every day. Some where migratory but there was always a good number of "locals". I am sure some birds also spend the winter in Maine. Finding the locations is one issue; motivating oneself to go out into the cold and wet is another.

Same little jug of flowers but photographed in a different location ;)

Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend. Sunny and pleasantly warm here today.

Spring of river Bistrica

The German college system is a bit different in that the breaks fall in the spring and late summer. I decided to spent 2 weeks of it in Eastern Europe, primarily Ukraine as it was an area I had never visited and would be very cheap. Amazingly the early sunny forecasts proved to be mostly true with several days of beautiful sun on the scenic mountain line to Rakhiv in the Carpathian mountains. Here train 16, the Rakhiv to Kharkiv Passenger rolls across the Prut River shortly before Yaremche with a 2TE10 leading the way.

Such beauty is hard to beat.

They may have small flowers, but I find Lobelia really useful in providing a colourful background for petunias in hanging baskets and pots. This one is irritatingly not quite in focus, but it was quite gusty at the time (excuses, excuses...).

Spring time in Wing Burrows in Rutland.

This was the scene a couple of days ago, sitting on top of this hill with a picnic and getting a gentle tan.

This morning it was snowing when I awoke.

Isn't the weather fun...?
