4 merged frames were used in this image. The water was suspended in a small bag with a pin hole in, 2 off camera speed-lights were bounced off of a white board reflecting onto the paint tray which held the water.
Fun with Shamu in San Antonio. The frigid 60 degree salt water splash wasn't the kids' favorite, but seeing a Killer Whale this close was!

Face paint mixed with water dropping on to a white tile with a white tile in the background. Yongnuo YN560 and Yongnuo YN460 speed lights, either side, both at lowest power. Triggered by Yongnuo RF-603.

You're probably getting sick of seeing shots from here, but I truly love this place & have so many more places to explore around here. I didn't get wet here but getting down to this spot I slipped on the rocks & proved that spending a small amount on UV filters is worth every cent, smashing a lens cap up through a UV filter on my 70-200 f2.8 in my camera bag on my back, thankfully no damage to the lens.

It's been a while that I'd told myself: "I gotta to try the "splash shot". I've finally got some free time to invest in taking pictures. That's my first attempt and I'm actually pretty happy with it.

My children enjoyed numerous visits to splash pads this summer. Here's a shot of Leo and Violet during a trip to the Massey Hill Recreation Center splash pad on Camden Road in Fayetteville, North Carolina in Cumberland County.
A huge one! I was wainting for a "normal" one and, suddenly, that one appears!
See LARGE.

Have a great day! :¬)
Here I dropped some red food coloring into some milk. I thought it was a decent splash. This kind of reminds me of a strawberry milkshake!

have been looking forward to try this one out for quite some time now. Finally got a chance to do this with my brother.
Some stuff that I learned that might help others out
1. Keep the shutter speed at around 1/1600 or so or you'll blur out the splash itself
2. The minimum aperture that I could use was f/7.1 otherwise I would lose out the front and back of the splash (50mm focal length)
3. You need crazy amounts of light, so shoot in sunlight, put up lamps, just about everything you can lay your hands on
4. try a lot, by the time I finished I had about 350 clicks (1.25 GB)
What a day at Slimbridge in Gloucestershire this was, when with the birds flying in for a spectacular splash landing.
A mallard drake lands at the Tower Loop at Cherry Creek State Park, Colorado. I love the wing flare and splash as he lands.

I spent all last week on a photo trip with fellow photographer Ted Gore. While at Olympic National Park, we visited several beaches and the Hoh rainforest. "Beaches and Hos... (or is it hoes?) as Alex Noriega would say :-) Anyway, We met up with Alex and went shooting sunset at Ruby Beach.
For those of you who care about such things, this is a composite of three different images: One exposure for the sky; One exposure for the streaking water in the foreground, and a third exposure for the splashing wave.
