South coast of Malta, area known as L-ilsejjen. The gap in the cliff at the centre in the background is a recently (2019) collapsed cave. This is part of the Maghlaq fault. The rock is mainly Upper Coralline Limestone, the youngest on the island, formed during Miocene, (Tortonian to Messinian). It is a hard pale-grey limestone deposited in shallow waters and contains corals and coralline algal fossils.
