Using Splash Art Kit to create this splash. Using the drop tap using red food dye water into a weak solution of blue food dye water into a small cone shape glass bowl.. Using 3 SB200 flash units, one clear, one with blue gel and one with orange gel.
Could not resist trying a splash shot with my new camera and lens, especially when the monthly theme in my T189 group came up as 'Water' and then Assignment52 as "splash"....... how could I not! I cannot believe I did seven drops and managed seven shots I liked!
My annual upload of a poppy field for Remembrance Sunday, and a splash of red added to my photostream. This display of poppies suddenly appeared opposite Bickton College in south east Devon and was a magnet for local togs throughout its duration in early June. Thanks for looking.
The idea came from the may edition of "Digital Photo". We set it up outside and had great fun doing it.
That is because this area is known as " The Splash " !
Shot taken for Saturday Self Challenge 21/08/2021 -- Seats , Benches or Anything Designed To Be Sat On .
Well here we are down at The Splash by the River Mole ( a trip just to get a seat/bench shot for SSC ) with a couple of benches to sit on and watch the river flowing past on it's journey to where it flows into the River Thames . A simple shot for the challenge , started out thinking of all sorts of sitting on things such as the seat of a Harley Davidson , a vintage tractor seat or even an abandoned old loo - alas ( or fortunately as the case may be ) I did not see any of these grand ideas so here we are at my stand-by shot . In the first comment box is a shot of the same two seats taken a while ago in more soggier times !!
As a last thought I have added in the second comment box an alternative something designed to sit on although this was taken some time back
Seems a Mr. N . Young did a tune to fit this scene ---------

Balinese children playing in the river. Just pure unadulterated fun. Some scenes are simply universal and timeless. This could easily be an American kid jumping off a rope swing somewhere in the south, or a child in a jungle village in the Amazon. One thing I appreciate about photography is how it evokes and stirs our memories of the past, as it did mine when I shot this scene.

Got this Beautiful Predator splashing in water.. I like to think of it as though he is welcoming me with open arms :)
So this took me pretty much all day to figure out how to do and make it work.
Again, playing around with a bit of science here. When a drop of water falls into a fairly deep pan of water, the water first goes way down and then like a rubber band, it springs back up because of the surface tension and sends the drop of water, or in this case milk with a bit of food color in it back up into the air, but what happened here was two more drops of water were falling down directly in line with the first one and impacted into the column of water and milk rising upward and caused these beautiful splashes of water.
I don't own one of those fancy and expensive water drop/splash kits that times everything out for you.
I did this all manually. First, I start with a two second shutter delay to get my hands in the right spots. Then the camera is set to a two second exposure which gives me time to do all the other things. The plunger gets pressed, drops come out, they fall, hit the water and I fire the flash trigger. The flash unit is off to the right side and set to a very small bust, 1/128th power. This is also a very fast burst of light and so it stops all the motion of the splash.
The colors in the background is the reflection of a shiny piece of art paper reflecting a small, adjustable LED panel light onto the waters surface..
Shot using a Tokina AT-X 90mm f2.5 Macro lens.

Took this last year for a magazine article which has now been published in DSLR User magazine (March 2010 edition) in the UK. I wrote a step-by-step description of how to take this type of shot, complete with behind-the-scenes and resulting images.
For a setup shot click here or better yet, buy DSLR User mag and read the article!!
I dropped the strawberry into a small spoon from a height of about 18 inches. Most of the times I missed, but occasionally I was successfull. The only way for the cream to make a splash is if the strawberry to land from a distance. The spoon contained Marks and Spencers Single Cream.

The 2 x SB28 flashguns were triggered by the StopShot electronic trigger system. They were connected to the StopShot via a Hama 3-way Sync adapter and about 1 million PC-Sync cables :)
The StopShot vendor is Cognisys (www.cognisys-inc.com).
I did this in complete darkness using BULB mode. Yes it was a big mess to clean up afterwards :(
