It seems dropping fruit into water is a very popular thing in the photography world... So I gave it a go, here's my take, i quite like the tank in the shot, overall it was good fun to shoot.
on the edge of the slippery pond bank, you got 3 tasks at hand... 1. ensure you don't slip down into the water(and its winter) 2. throw the stone exactly where it might make a good photograph with your left hand and 3. snap it exactly at the right moment. i guess i did pretty well...what say ???

This was taken within the last week or so. One drop of cream sitiing on black plexi. Food colouring added wit eye droppers and paint brushes. A second drop of white cream dropped into it. Lightin by 2 speedlights at 90 deg CR and CL behind white plexi. Enjoy and please comment. View on black for best results.....
When the weather is not too great and you still want to play with your camera indoors. Experimenting with Splash Photography. Good fun!
Pete and Danni kindly gave me a lens and a fishtank for my birthday, so, as you can see, I have put them to good use. Turns out the lens wasn't waterproof?! Explored!

When I took this picture I was sitting at Darbhanga ghat along the Ganges since a while taking pictures of people splashing water.
This young man came and seemed to really enjoy to spread water drops everywhere, I was standing nearby in "contre-jour" with the sun in front of me and it allowed me to take series of shots like this one.
A few minutes later he came to see what I did with my camera and he was happy to see those images.
Those water drops are now a symbol of his joyful nature.

Strobist Sundays - splash
Not much time to do a setup today, so I poured a little colored water into my kitchen sink manually using a coffee pot, and blasted across it with a 580EXII with grid at a low setting. I tried s slow shutter speed hoping to get a bit of motion blur and gel-like look to the water under the flash-stopped details.
Haven't added a liquid shot for a while so thought it was about time. :D
This is red food colouring, the bokeh was unintentional, it's the bubbles surrounding the container after so many splashes.

Part of my Liquid Set
4 merged frames were used in this image. The water was suspended in a small bag with a pin hole in, 2 off camera speed-lights were bounced off of a white board reflecting onto the paint tray which held the water.
I haven't dome any milk drops in awhile, so I did a few the other day I forgot how much I enjoyed using milk for this. I hope everyone enjoys, hanks for looking.
Just as I drove by, a huge wave hit the wall and some poor tourist got drenched.
I missed out on this portion of a Flickr gathering last week, so while in the city on my day off yesterday I decided to do a drive by. Nobody there!! I did not have enough time to go inside. I knew it would be an hour before getting out!! This was taken in the afternoon so there were a lot of shadows, but I like the light on the upper towers and the little bit of wispy fog above the towers.
Season of Summer Light
Week 28, Saturday
Now that rainy days are over and we have a new heat wave, we decided finally to go swimming. You may have heard the old cliché that Finland is country of thousands lakes. Well it is and we are very fortunate to live near the one called Näsijärvi which is only 15 minutes walk away from us. This lake is pretty broad, deep and it has many cold springs, which means it warms up really slowly in summer, if at all. When we got there water temperature was +15 degrees of Celsius (60 degrees at Fahrenheit scale) which is rather chilly for summer swim. I could tell it right away from a far since there were only kids in a water (adults come only around +20). As it was to expect, it didn't stop Aura at all. Like most of the children she absolutely loved to play in water and spattered it around with her shovel. Only after she was trembling from a cold we took her out and dried her with a towel. After that it was our turn. Couple of turns around the shore and I can say, yes it was pretty chilly, but fun too. What would be summer without swimming?
Lately I've been fascinated by the idea that I could get that summer light very literally in my pictures by shooting in back light scenarios and let the light bounce inside the lens causing haze and sun flares in final pictures. If one goes by the textbook it's 'against the rules', but in my book the imperfections and happy accidents created by this technique adds something very special to pictures - an element of being there, one might say. When I took this picture sun was already pretty low and it hit us through the trees creating a thin light streak on a shore. I put Aura into that light streak and began shooting pictures while making sure that the sun was just a bit outside of the frame. This way I could get beautiful rim light around Aura & Sari and a small sun haze in a picture (though I had to help it a bit with post processing). After that it was just a matter of capturing the right moment when water droplets splashed high enough. Quite pleased with a outcome, especially since it captures an action which is pretty rare in my pictures, but I've got a feeling I'm still playing too safe with this technique.

EXPLORED ON 30 MAY 2009 - # 376
This was a fascinating capture. We were walking at the local bird park, and reached a place called Pelican Cove.
There were quite a few of these beautiful creatures, in a man made environment that looked so real. There was a beautiful lake that surrounded their island home. The birds would often stay and sleep on the island, but would venuture out fishing at the lake.
On the water these birds are such wonderfully elegant creatures, and its a treat to watch them. I wanted to capture one of them floating peacefully on the lake.
Luckily this fellow walked right into my frame and he was looking so calm and peaceful. As I clicked a few shots, suddenly I heard a SPLASH. This fellow erupted into a violent frenzy of moving his wings in and out of the water. And then he started cleaning himself with his beak and neck. Luckily for me, my finger was continuing to click. This was one of my best.
