Shot for the theme "Macro". I don't actually own a macro lens but am satisfied with what I captured using my 85mm prime.

52 weeks 2019 Edition

I am a surgical resident. It is all consuming; it takes nearly all my time, my energy, my thoughts. It is a tough job, and for those that have been through it, you know what I am talking about. Photography has been a passion of mine for a long time, and I found that I simply dont have the time or energy to go out and photograph during my time as a resident. I had to find a new way to shoot, and find out how to do it in such a way that I can pick it up and drop it at a moment's notice. I found that I might have to start making more studio based photos and this was my first shot at it. I placed a glass on a mirror surface, and used a sound trigger to get the timing right. I dropped an ice-cube into water, fired off my flashes and bam, this is what I got. It took more than a few times to get it right, and more than a few days of in and out to finally get is tuned right. Overall, it was a fun task that really helped keep me grounded while I was trudging through residency. Anyway, I hope you all can enjoy the photo if its your kind of thing! :)

Suddenly

a door of water

opened upward

into shadows

dim trees cast

across the pond,

lightness at twilight,

soft blur momentarily

translucent above

a soul was rising,

as if it meant more

than it did, and here

It had rained a lot on the days prior to the rally, turning this small creek passage into a major water crossing...

Here, the Subaru Impreza STi N11 driven by Thomas Leger and François Dortu is seen losing a front bumper cover during the crossing.

My first instinct is to process in color - I love color - but woke up this morning thinking I really need something to make this splash pop more. Tried it in black & white and few other minor tweaks, and I'm happy with this outcome. I need to try B&W more often!

Another view of Ruth Bancroft Garden, this the path to Ruth's Folly which, with donations, be bhrought back to life. A "folly" for those of us who had no ides until we saw the English movie, "The Wrong Box," is a costly ornamental building with no practical purpose, especially a tower or mock-Gothic ruin built in a large garden or park." Well, that's a bit harsh, but I suppose that's that Ruth's was allowed to deteriorate.

You really can't walk at Ruth Bancroft Garden anytime in the spring when there's a splash of color at every turn. The dappled shade adds to the beauty, and it only lasts about six weeks before the bright summer sun makes a difference in "ambience." I did go back to give a wider angle of some of the features of the Garden, and this is one of my favorite walks. The blue are Salvia ulignosia; the red/purple, a species of Ice plant, Delosperma; and in the background the taller bush, Polygala myrtifolia in all its glory. Of course, since I lost my notes, they could all be fireweed from Mt. Rainier ;-)

Cacti and iceplant are now exploding, and I'll be showing a few of each close up over the next week. Then to the more mundane flowers that will knock your socks off. Is that even possible?

Took me a lot of time & shots to capture a drop of water splashing into a bowl. I am quite pleased the way it looks like a ball of water being supported on a column of the same.
