I did an upgrade to my ping pong cannon to accommodate the 40mm balls. I am very lucky that both the 38mm and the 40mm fit standard American plumbing pipe.

With the larger surface area, the force on the ping pong ball is greater and the velocity went up. This shot was going at 370fps, up from about 330 for the smaller balls.

Leo suggested hitting glass, which turned out to be a great idea. the glass is fairly thick at .085 inches.

This was the first shot and it looked good. I put more delay in a second shot hoping to see the ball go through the glass, but it is just rebounding.

Duh.

The glass weighs much more than the ball so....

It is stupid hot here today. Sunday was a great 65 F and today is 87 F. Hard to get used to.

Global weirdness, when you put more energy into a system, you get faster and more radical changes.

There are some interesting clouds in the sky, so maybe I'll get to go out and shoot some sunset.

Meanwhile, I gotta go sing the SpiderPong song.

Cheers.

Strobist info:

Two bare 580EX flashes at 1/8 power on each side of the bike, although power ratio seems a bit off here.

feeling the wind in my hair, braking into the future

Spent too much time on this one. But some parts are cool.

This shot was the last of about twenty shots. So I had to try harder.

It's a rubber O-ring dipped in bubble solution and shot with a pellet.

I build a big old soft box for my flash. Angle is critical for getting the colors on the bubble. I also painted the pellets white to get them to show up better.

As far as I'm concerned, the lack of sharpness on the bubble is the weakness of the picture. But with my camera, I was pushing speed (asa800) and f stop (f13).

Things to see are the little pieces of debris from the pellet (paint?) making little splash rings and the tearing of the soap bubble.

The before shot was much more peaceful.

If I get a camera that has greater depth of field and good noise (hah!), it would be nice to try this again.

Speed Roadster - David lynch

Maybe you’re happy, but I hope you’re sad.

Since you left me I have been thinking about getting me a speed roadster.

Going by the drugstore, who could ask for more?

Maybe drive by your house.

Look in your window.

I might be stalking you

I'm a huge fan of Rey in the new Star Wars trilogy. This build started when I bought the official Rey's speeder set, and didn't love how out of scale it was with the Rey minifig, and how inaccurate it was compared to the movie version.

Despite my best efforts, I ended up building a version that was still too big for the Rey minifig, and probably close to the same scale as the original set. Buuut I think it looks much more movie accurate now, and I'm really pleased with the shaping and details I was able to include.

Also, it's been a little while since I built or posted anything here. Like 7 years. (My handle used to be Vid, in case anyone is wondering who this rando is in their feed). It's good to be back! I have like 3-ish additional MOCs in progress, I'm making slow progress but I'm really liking where they are going. Maybe I'll post some pictures of where I'm at soon.

Had this idea a few days ago and it worked out interesting enough to post. An apple dipped in three colors of paint, dries and exploded. I had hoped the paint would cause the skin to break up with a different pattern and it did.

It would be fun to paint an Apple Logo on an apple and blow it up. If I can think of a reasonable way to do this I might try it.

We put the Jeep up for sale yesterday and it sold today. We are glad that it was so easy. I never really liked the car, mostly because I am spoiled with the reliability of modern cars. Compared to my first car a 1968 Triumph Spitfire, the Jeep was a model of reliability. Compared to my VW GTI (my first new car) it sucked. And my present car a 2007 Prius has only needed one repair, a new battery. It just turned over 100,000 miles.

Cheers.

Headshot!

High speed photo of a splash of water with a puff of air added at the right time. The puff of air caused the hole in the splash.

Setup - custom made sliding table rig with an air valve arrangement off to the right of the photo. The table triggers a delay via a Stop Shot flash trigger, 3 Nikon speedlight flashes are used. One flash is fired from the trigger, two others are set up in slave mode, firing remotely. In this setup, the flashes were gelled red and yellow off to the right and left. One non-gelled flash is set up under the table to fill the background. The two flashes to the right and left were set to 1/8th power, the center flash was set to 1/128th power. This setup uses a single air nozzle off-axis to strike the splash in the front.

This is the Trandoshan Speeder ( MSP80-Pteropter) from Star Wars The Clone Wars Season 3 Episode 21: Padawan Lost and Episode 22: Wookiee Hunt.

The front cannon can be turned and there are several color variations. I tried to recreate as many details as possible and mainly used Star Wars. com for it. Instructions can be purchased on request.

My wife bought some kumquats for a dish we ate tonight. It was really good. Scallops and Kumquat sauce.

I shot some of the little devils.

I'm really having computer blues today. I bought some Hitachi 2T drives to add to my storage space and I can't do anything with them. The Mac OS can't format them or anything else. It does not help that I am a computer moron.

Didn't have any trouble with the old drives Western Digital.

Times like this I need a 15 year old computer geek around.

Cheers.
