2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed

A speed boat powers by on Lake Michigan.

I put a bit of posterize effect into the image and ended up with this...

In late 2007 I was planning a diorama and accompanying story called "Sam Slick's Used Speeders", featuring a shady used-hovercar lot full of fun characters like the inept salesman who couldn't sell water in the desert, the smooth talking one who could sell ice to eskimos, the sleazy service department technicians who thought hovercar repair was the greatest moneymaking scam since televangelism, the various customers, and of course Sam Slick himself, a Cal Worthington type (you need to be an American West Coaster of a certain age to remember old Cal).

Then all these speeders I'd built got put in a drawer with some other WIPs when I moved in early 2008, and in that drawer they stayed, out of sight and mostly out of mind. Until very recently, rediscovered in the middle of the long slow process of getting my Lego collection into some semblance of order, so I can actually build stuff again.

The great irony of course is that being over a decade old, they'd work even better as "used speeders" now than they would have then, but that used hovercar lot is just never going to be built.

A police speeder that I just put together while playing around with techniques. I started off with the front end and I started losing interest at the rear tail. I'm also not a fan of that canopy ...it just ended up there

Here's what I saw from behind the camera (snapped with my iPod). I've left it upside down because that's how you see it.

More Speeder Bikes to come... thanks everybody for the nice comments (and faves) on the previous MOCs of this serie (which is as fun to build for me as Febrovery is, and that means a lot !)

The last speeder from the batch that started with the Boval designs. Of course I've already completed another six designs in the time it took me to get around to the render.

Un'insolito soggetto per un test di panning: l'adulto era velocissimo e il bimbo rideva come un matto mentre scorrazzavano a tutta velocità. Tenerli nell'inquadratura è stato davvero difficile!

Today I took over 1500 photos of racing Jet Skis. This is an annual event in Kuwait every summer, and there are two more races to be held in the next two months.

Freezing the action was really fun and gave me some nice shots, but this was also a chance for me to try out panning Jet Skis, something which I had never attempted.

I had a lot of successful panning shots and it was kinda hard picking which one to post here, so I just went with the most interesting rider pose and Jet Ski color. This was also the first time I put the 70-200 to sports photography use. So a general tip, always get a lens with 200-400mm focal length if you're going to shoot some Jet Skis.

This car was an amazing building experience. I rebuilt the thing multiple times and I must say, this is the most complicated car I've built yet. It features almost everything you could want from a car: seats for two persons, opening doors, dashboard, gear shift, mirrors, turn signals, exhausts, licence plates and a beautiful slim shape. Too bad I couldn't figure out how to put a roof on it, but I am happy anyway!

I recommend you to take a view at the build itself: LLD file

This is my hummingbird high speed flash photography setup.

Quelques personnes m'ont demandé le setup que j'utilisais pour la photo de Colibris... voici une photo du setup dans ma cour arrière...

My first shot for a new group “set yourself a challenge”. This weeks challenge is “square crop”. Whenever I thought square a speed square kept running thru my head. Normally all my shots are 24 x 36 aspect ratio, most of the time I don’t deviate from that. Even when shooting this I started by framing it to fill the viewfinder and had to use the grid to reframe it. The challenge forced me to shoot in a way I normally wouldn’t but also gave me direction for shooting. Kinda cool :)

This is also the first time I’ve used my camera in over a week other than for my flagpole project which thru dumb luck turned out successfully in my opinion. I’ve been extremely under the weather lately and am finally starting to feel a little better.

Fiquei um tempo sem postar por pura preguiça...

Achei que esse hdr ficou muito "need for speed" rsrsrs

Aos poucos vou pegando as manhas de fazer HDR, adoro essa técnica =)
