The Roots Family Picnic for Metromix

With her beautiful voice and smooth style, Grammy Winner Esperanza Spalding gave a stunning performance. I've got more to come from this set later.

Signalbox diagram from Spalding No. 1, from circa the 1960s. This was the junction to the south of Spalding where the GN/GE Joint Line from March jointed the GN Mainline from Peterborough to Boston. At this stage the M&GN line had closed, but the line to Boston remained open for a short while longer.

Cravens Class 105 2-car dmu 56139/51261 has just arrived at Spalding on the 17.35 from Peterborough on 20 July 1981. After a short wait it will return as the 18.07 to Peterborough.

56139 was new in May 1957. At the date of my photo it was allocated to Norwich (NR), and it was withdrawn from service in May 1985.

51261 was new in June 1958, and was withdrawn from service on 1 April 1984. Both of these vehicles were scrapped by Mayer Newman in Snailwell.

An interesting 1970's view of the east end [?] of Spalding Town station. Absolutely nothing has changed since the steam era except for the motive power and you really have to go out of your way to see a Growler and a 47 in the same vicinity now! Certainly not ever here again !!!

Optare Tempo 25127, formerly Norfolk Green no.103, departing with the 17.07 service to Sutton Bridge.

Views of this operator at various places between here and King's Lynn can be found in my Album "Norfolk Green".

Spalding December 1015

A Cravens DMU arrives with the 11.56 Peterborough - Spalding local - Saturday 13th December 1980. A Christmas shoppers special!

Although rationalised even at this early stage, a wealth of lovely infrastructure survives. All gone now of course!

45012 at Spalding on Hertfordshire Railtours "Knottingley Man O'Wa"r from Kings Cross to Scarborough and back. This tour was notorious for a long time due to the almost total lack of heat on an extremely cold day. 40012 had been expected but that had been withdrawn the previous day and we ended up with 45012, but from Peterborough rather than Kings Cross. We finally got a working boiler at 4pm with 47157 but then the coaches didn't heat properly!
