Colas Rail 56078 makes a rare appearance seen at Spalding up sidings before working 6S98 Spalding to Aberdeen. The train was once again short formed due to issues at the King’s Lynn paper mill meaning some wagons had been left in the sidings loaded. Spalding 05/08/2020.

The church of Saint Mary & Saint Nicholas in Spalding was built as a parish church by the priory in approx 1284, originally a cruciform building it has undergone many changes and additions over the centuries.

 

The market town of Spalding sits in the south Lincolnshire Fens on the river Wellend, it has many fine Georgian buildings, especially along the river bank, this area of south Lincolnshire is famous for its flower bulb industry.

 

The Fenlands of south-east Lincolnshire, west Norfolk and north Cambridgeshire are rich in medieval ecclesiastical architecture, because of this the area is sometimes referred to as the "Holy Land of the English".

Ipswich - Lindsey tanks pass Spalding, just the three tanks. One of the few non-nuclear freights regularly to work with a short load. I guess since Freightliner use the fuel at Ipswich it remains economical for them to move their fuel around, rather than pay someone else to take it by road.

Speeding through a wet Spalding station, 66742 brings yet another liner through this busy station, working 4L53 16:17 Tinsley Yard to Felixstowe North.

Living their life grazing algae in tropical north-west Australian intertidal rock pools, these blennies are extremely intricate up close. They perch on-top of hard corals and are extremely quick to zip away into rock cracks when they feel threatened.

Their sister species from the east coast of Australia is also known as the Lawnmower Blenny in the marine aquarium trade, for their tendencies to be included in reef tanks as a fish to help control algae.

Spalding Station opened on the 17th October 1848 by the Great Northern Railway, once an important junction station it now only serves the Lincoln to Peterborough Line.

After the parade, a walk along the River Welland to Springfields retail outlet and its excellent gardens.
