Doubtful Sound on the New Zealand South Island is like being a million miles from anywhere.

Standing 70ft tall and located on private grounds, Leleka'ae Falls is probably one of the lesser known Hawaiian waterfalls... but combining its location and lack of general public access allowed me to just quietly enjoy the true natural beauty this falls represents.

The Sound of Silence

Song by Simon & Garfunkel

Hello darkness, my old friend

I've come to talk with you again

Because a vision softly creeping

Left its seeds while I was sleeping

And the vision that was planted in my brain

Still remains

Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone

Narrow streets of cobblestone

'Neath the halo of a street lamp

I turned my collar to the cold and damp

When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light

That split the night

And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw

Ten thousand people, maybe more

People talking without speaking

People hearing without listening

People writing songs that voices never share

No one dared

Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools" said I, "You do not know

Silence like a cancer grows

Hear my words that I might teach you

Take my arms that I might reach you"

But my words like silent raindrops fell

And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed

To the neon god they made

And the sign flashed out its warning

In the words that it was forming

And the sign said, "The words of the prophets

Are written on the subway walls

And tenement halls

And whispered in the sounds of silence"

Even though the Eurasian oystercatchers are a sign of spring where I live, I've grown up with their lovely sound as a sign of summer on the island I'm from.

Today I met a couple close to our home, who seemed anxious and probably had a nest or chicks nearby. (This is another couple on an early spring day.)

El sonido del silencio ..tiene tanta fuerza que es el unico medio que consigue que :

Veamos ..lo que es invisible.!.

Sintamos..intensamente con el corazón..!

Pensemos.. en lo inimaginable.!

Amemos aunque no queramos..!

Ayudemos a quien no conocemos..!

Soñemos.. aunque estemos despiertos..!

Solo el sonido del silencio..

hace que escuchemos..nuesto interior..!!

Unfortunately, whilst the rest of the country bathed in sun this weekend, Milford Sound (its own micro-climate) absolutely chucked it down with rain and was bathed in fog. Great to see the waterfalls... not so great for photography. Waiting around for a bit of cloud clearance, i managed to get this 6 shot panorama (shot in portrait)... theres a few filters going on just to bring out the mountains.

I also have an awesome competition running on my FB page (sorry NZ addresses only)

I found this one sound asleep in a shady spot. Opened its eyes just as I snapped but still looks sleepy.

Early in the morning you can hear the sound of silence

This is the revised edition of an old shot. If you want you can search for the original - but it's not worth ;-)

View of the Desolation Sound as seen from Georgia Strait.

There is something to be said about the sounds of silence at the last base before the summit of Mt Cook. Its peacefulness only broken by the intermittent cracking sound of snow breaking away from the mountains grip. Its escape downhill makes an even louder noise as it rushes to freedom. Then ... silence again. Wow...living on the edge

It was one incredible experience to stay up at this incredible location and one I'm sure I won't forget for a very long time. Here is my take on the location already well documented of late. Thanks to One Of A Kind for planning the trip of a life time
