BNSF M-EVELVW, the Everett to Longview manifest, heads south along the Puget Sound coastline at Chambers Bays Beach. While it may only be a low priority manifest, the SD75M duo sandwiching a triclops SD60M is a prime example of why this train & its northbound counterpart are some of the higher sought out trains in the area since it often gets this kind of power. 6-23-23

for Macro Mondays Dec.28/20 "Redux 2020". Sound was the topic on August 31, 2020 but I was away from the internet so I could not enter a photo that week.

This tiny brass bell measures 2cm at it's widest point. It's a souvenir of Lucerne, Switzerland, from 1981. The whole image is under 7cm wide.

Barkley Sound lies south of Ucluelet and north of Bamfield on the west coast of Vancouver Island, covering an area of approximately 800 square kilometres that includes hundreds of islands, none of which is larger than 2 kilometres across.

The 40 kilometers of passage to traverse Doubtful Sound reveals amazing sights and weather. Just unbelievable seeing this in the middle of the Antipodean summer. No man-made objects of any kind exist here - no houses, no power lines, no navigation signs....

"Sounds of Nature" mixed with the sounds of a nearby road unfortunately ...

on the end of this video you can see the symbol of our civilization ~ plastic bottle on the shore of the river ...

Bailey's Fountain at Grand Army Plaza. The 1932 fountain was funded by philanthropist Frank Bailey as a memorial to his wife. The crowning sculpture of the figures are that of Wisdom and Felicity holding on to the prow of a ship. The bottom statue is that of Triton or Triden (without the second"t"), the son of Neptune/Poseidon.Although Triton uses a trident the sculptor opted to show him blowing on a twisted sea conch, one of the god's other attributes. When he blows on it like a trumpet he does so to either stir or calm the waves of the sea.You can't see it to well in this shot, but there's also a little boy off to the right carrying a cornucopia.

Lying in an inaccessible gravel pit are three well preserved examples of obsolete technology from the 1920s. They are acoustic mirrors designed to pick up the sound of approaching aircraft before they were visible. They were never taken into use because of the development of radar prior to World War 2. here are the 20 foot and 30 foot sound mirrors.

On an overcast afternoon of Friday the 28th of June 2002 the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland's Ivatt designed WT Class #4 storms away from Whitehead, in County Antrim; heading for Belfast with an empty stock working that will later form an evening "Jazz & Stream" excursion to a mystery destination.

sounds of silence

Simon & Garfunkel

Hello darkness, my old friend

I've come to talk with you again

Because a vision softly creeping

Left its seeds while I was sleeping

And the vision that was planted in my brain

Still remains

Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone

Narrow streets of cobblestone

'Neath the halo of a street lamp

I turned my collar to the cold and damp

When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light

That split the night

And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw

Ten thousand people, maybe more

People talking without speaking

People hearing without listening

People writing songs that voices never share

No one dared

Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools" said I, "You do not know

Silence like a cancer grows

Hear my words that I might teach you

Take my arms that I might reach you"

But my words like silent raindrops fell

And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed

To the neon god they made

And the sign flashed out its warning

In the words that it was forming

And the sign said, "The words of the prophets

Are written on the subway walls

And tenement halls"

And whispered in the sounds of silence

Doubtful Sound, New Zealand, by moonlight. The ship had shut down its diesel engines for the night and the wind had ceased. The only sounds were of dolphins slapping the water and calling to each other with that high pitched haunting resonance they make. It was magical.

This has been reedited.

African penguins are sometimes nicknamed "jackass penguins," because of the braying sound they make. It resembles the voice of a donkey.
