It leads to a ravine. There is nothing and no one there to stop you falling off. (except that it's in the middle of a bunch of private land and there are houses everywhere) I don't like heights so I didn't have a problem staying away from the edge. It was a gorgeous view though!

the buoys in Porteau Cove mark the sunken barges that form artificial reefs for sea life. Good scuba diving spot. :)
The noise made by a desert cicada is out of all proportion to its size. Some cicada species have been measured at 98 decibels. By comparison a lawn mower is about 90 decibels. (Decibels are measured on a logarithmic scale with each 10 db increase representing a doubling in loudness).
They're completely harmless to humans and photographing them isn't particularly difficult once you find them. This one was camera shy and slowly walked around the branch trying to keep the tree between itself and the lens. They usually appear 2 to 3 weeks before Arizona's monsoon rains.
