Solar Eclipse - 20/3/2015

Manchester, UK

Crew scrubbing our solar panels, just in time for another wildfire to drop ash on it. Our installers asked to film our panels for a promo video, and they sent out a crew to clean them first (better them than me risking life/limb up there...)

Had no solar filters or glasses to properly view it from Southern California but managed to get this shot.

Love this Amorphous panel, so light and compact, durable and shade resistant

Two of the solar panels installed by PSE&G as part of their Solar 4 All Program, which somehow became controversial in some parts of the state.

Finally getting around to posting my April 8, 2024 solar eclipse series shot on film. Because our city was in the zone of totality, we received quite an influx of people. It was quite the experience to witness a total solar eclipse.

VIEW OF SMUDPV1 PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS, WITH THE TWIN COOLING TOWERS OF THE RANCHO SECO NUCLEAR PLANT IN THE BACKGROUND.

SACRAMENTO MUNICIPAL UTILITY DISTRICT'S ONE-MEGAWATT PHOTOVOLTAIC FACILITY (SMUDPV1) IS THE INITIAL STEP IN A PLANNED FIVE-PHASE, 12-YEAR VENTURE TO CONSTRUCT A 100-MW PHOTOVOLTAIC POWER PLANT NEAR THE RANCHO SECO GENERATING STATION. THE FACILITY IS COMPRISED OF 896 PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS - MORE THAN ONE MILLION SOLAR CELLS - MOUNTED IN SINGLE-AXIS TRACKING ARRAYS. THE PHOTOVOLTAIC DEVICES, MANUFACTURED BY ARCO SOLAR, ARE MADE FROM SINGLE CRYSTALLINE SILICON AND CONVERT SUNLIGHT INTO DC ELECTRICITY WITH 11 PERCENT EFFICIENCY. EACH MEGAWATT OF THE PLANNED POWER PLANT REQUIRES ABOUT NINE ACRES OF LAND AND WILL PRODUCE ENOUGH ELECTRICITY TO POWER 300 HOMES. SMUD USED ITS OWN FUNDS, AS WELL AS THOSE BORROWED FROM DOE AND CALIFORNIA'S ENERGY COMMISSION, TO FINANCE THE INITIAL $12 MILLION MEGAWATT. COMPLETION OF THE ENTIRE 100-MW PLANT IS EXPECTED IN 1993.

A recent solar panel installation just down the road from my house. I wonder which cowboy firm did it. I reckon most of the panels are too shaded to be worth having.
