The planets of our Solar System (excluding Earth for obvious reasons), captured in 2020 and 2021 with an 80mm refractor and a DSLR. I enjoyed the journey of pushing this typical beginner setup to its limit for planetary imaging. I “graduated” to a C6 and a dedicated planetary camera in 2022, and I’m hoping to create another Solar System composite soon with the best images from that setup. Can't believe I forgot to upload this until now!

Just playing with a new solarization technique i've found. I love trying new processes and this is one of the few that I didn't do in the darkroom back in the day. It's quite a full-on effect and not everyone's cup of tea, but it's all part of the learning curve, and literally lots of photoshop curves in this case. Anyway, I am the worst judge of my own work so I will just share it with you and let you decide :)

This is a bit of an HDR test - it was quite windy when I took this shot so getting together the shaking tree and bright sun was a bit of work.

Working on a retelling of the Solar engine so that it runs in real-time from microphone input. The original version existed only as renders because I was asking the computer to perform highly processor intensive particle repulsion. Given a mass of particles (10,000+), each particle had to exert a force on every other particle.

 

The original render ran at less than one frame per second. This version, still visually dense and reactive, runs at near 30fps on my laptop. Once the port to Cinder (with some optimization magic courtesy of Andrew Bell) is complete, we expect it to hit the coveted 60fps mark.

 

Still working on the visuals and behavior. Next up, variable size spheres and pushing more of the workload to the GPU.

I've set up a small solar system: 2 15 watt photovoltaic panels, 400 watt inverter, 30 amp solar charge controller, and a 145 amp hour deep cycle marine battery. My brother-in-law Greg built the handy cart to keep it all together and semi-mobile. So far so good though I'm fairly certain I'll be adding another 15 watt panel for a total of 45 watts. The current 30 watts is not alot but it is enough to power my laptop for several hours every evening, cell phone charger and a compact fluorescent light. I'm also using the 2 solar LED lanterns for night time light.

The last five turn yellow because the sun was setting.

After looking closer at the photos I snapped I realized that I captured a Solar Mass Ejection or solar flare. Pretty excited about that! My guess is its many times larger then earth.

The sunset was amazing on Saturday with this really weird cloud formation as if it held the sun's thoughts in a cartoon balloon.

Buzz Aldrin is deploying the Solar Wind Collector (SWC), a foil sheet which he is pointing at the Sun. Note the word 'Shade' printed on the bottom of the back side. The word 'Sun' is printed on the sunward side. At the end of the EVA, after leaving the SWC exposed to the Sun for about 1 hour and 17 minutes, Buzz will roll up the foil and pack it in a bag for analysis back on Earth. Note the considerable clearance between the bottom of the Descent Engine bell and the surface beneath it. Little West Crater is near the horizon on the lefthand side of the image. Note the pattern of scratch marks running from the MESA toward the lower left that were created by the TV cable as Neil Armstrong took the camera away from the LM on the tripod. Neil's footprints are generally to the right of the cable scratches as he moved sideways out from the Lunar Module. Several potentially foot-grabbing loops remain in the cable. The rendezvous radar and various antennas on the top of the ascent stage are labeled in a detail ( 223k ).

the solar eclipse mood and eerie light with it's low contrast captured yesterday during the morning eclipse in the garden... in front of the upper pond!

Clouds were showing up before the rain storm. Good to see a bit of a solar halo.

 

Once a former Solar Union officer, Highlord Marshal Tyrestian is the single man responsible for the birth of the Mistarille Dawn, and he leads this force of spirited 'Justice Police' across the sectors, bringing swift, burning retribution against the Solar Union and others for their tyranny and betrayal of their fellow man.

 

Tyrestian, when partaking in frontline battle, pilots his custom Gernsback, the 'Helios'. Tyrestian is adept at close quarters combat, favoring the spear, which is why it appears in the Mistarille Dawn's emblem and banner. His Helios carries such a spear, the 'Torch of First Light'. Not only is this a powerful melee weapon, but it serves as a symbol of Tyrestian's split from the Solar Union.

 

He also carries a MX-CQC-03 "Godhand" pattern impact knuckle, to use both as an additional melee weapon a means to augment use of the 'Torch of First Light'.

 

Atop his frame on an ornamental spear sits his subtle but powerful sensor array, the 'Pinnacle of the Sun'. He uses this to communicate and relay combat information to the rest of the Dawn.

 

While Tyrestian doesn't join direct combat often, favoring Marshal Mardukas to lead the Dawn's forces, when he does he is a fury unbound and truly the burning spear of the fiery dawn.
