Nestled in the corner of the room is a cozy piano corner, surrounded by warm candlelight and a large bird of paradise plant. The plant's deep green leaves and unique shape give the space a natural, organic feel, while the flickering candles provide a warm, intimate glow. The room is filled with the sound of piano music as the musician plays an original composition. The smooth, melodic sound of the piano blends perfectly with the soft ambiance of the room. The decor in this space is unique, with vintage art and intricate textures that make the room feel like a creative oasis.
Notable features:
- Piano with 62 animations
- Piano plays an original composition by Jake Vordun and favorites by Mozart, Beethoven, Satie, Joplin, Rameau, Chopin, and Scriabin.
- Candle set comes in gold, iron, and silver, and comes with a box of candles in cream or multi-colored, as well as a dish with a burnt match.
- Other unique decor includes a highly detailed and sculpted squirrel and plant, and a hand-painted rug by Apple.

These pair of birds from two different but related species showed up in Fort De Sotto to delight all birders. Very chill and indifferent to human gawkers.

Today we went to the Four Mile Beach north of Santa Cruz, California. It was a beautiful afternoon, no clouds. I took this long exposure shot in the blue hour 30 minutes after sunset using an ND8 neutral density filter on the vintage Dream Lens.
I processed a balanced and a photographic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and the curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Let's talk. Believe it or not, I rarely use audio callers to attract birds. The birder who was out there in the field did it and enabled me to get this photo. If I used callers I would be more of a species photographer. I've spent a lot of vacation time in Lake Tahoe where I never used a caller. But once I have the opportunity, I have to get the best photo that I can. I will alter my focus points, aperture and ISO in the field. Once that is done, I will crop the photo and ask myself, "How does the crop feel?" "Are my colors off?" "Do I like the colors?" If I really want the photo, I will visualize it in my mind weeks before I get the photo. That's something I rarely do also. I'd rather just enjoy the outdoors and capture some good photos.

Man, it's a hot one
Like seven inches from the midday sun
Well, I hear you whisper and the words melt everyone
But you stay so cool"
An eastbound manifest, with a cut of hoppers on the headpin, is on West Hump's board and just clear of Staples DS board. It will be smooth sailing into the cities with no traffic ahead.

I found this little snake stretched out across the road during a walk through my neighborhood. It immediately struck me as different from the abundant rough earth snakes that I can usually turn up under stones in my garden. When I picked it up I could feel its smooth, keelless scales which added to my suspicion. Scale counts confirmed that I was looking at a smooth earth snake. These tiny fossorial serpents seem to be quite uncommon in Texas, and relatively few records exist, scattered across the eastern 2/3 of the state.
The stretch of road I found it on has been productive over the years. Each year I see several three-toed box turtles of various age classes here, and I have seen a number of prairie king snakes. I attribute this to a few large tracts (1-5 acre) lots that have intact forest. It goes to show that even small amounts of green space within an otherwise suburban setting can harbor impressive biodiversity, and may serve as a refuge for some rare and declining species.
