Aswan,
way down south on the Nile
hot as hell
but heavenly beautiful....
The cataracts of the Nile are shallow lengths (or white water rapids) of the Nile River, between Aswan and Khartoum, where the surface of the water is broken by many small boulders and stones protruding out of the river bed, as well as many rocky islets. In some places, these stretches are punctuated by whitewater and are perhaps well characterized as rapids, while at others the water flow is smoother, but still shallow.

didn't have ISO set correctly so a lot of noise in this photo..not too bad for handheld low light shot
I found a nice spot at Vermilion Lakes so you can see the mountains and lake at night. The lake is very calm and has a beautiful refection like a mirror. You stood up on that spot and waited for sunrise. You will feel like today will be a great day.
Wide angle shot of a a beautiful adult male Smooth Snake (Coronella austriaca). He was seen actively crossing a road on a sunny afternoon running through a steep and elevated patch of open Juniper woodland (Juniperus foetidissima). The location was Mikri Prespa NP in Greece.
Another one of my yesterday's photo walk. This time catching artificial light, cool and warm light at the same time which creates a sort of "in camera split toning".

Occasionally i get to practice the art of smooth water. I only own one ND filter and it only fits one lens...so sometime i experiment with an open shutter speed and fudging the the F-stop if the day is gray, or dismal or foggy! This was one of those days last winter that was not too abysmally cold and i actually set foot out of the house!!
I am heading out for a walk before the rains come...maybe we will get enough rain to actually have some moving water here...it has been so dry that the trees are stressing and we still have to water the mums. the pond is so low that i think it is maybe ankle deep right now and i wonder if the fish are still in there!
Hope you all have a speedy and mellow Tuesday! Heading out before the storms!
A handsome resident and very wary male Wood Duck weaving its way through the reeds in Hubbard Pond.

As mentioned in an earlier posting, Hubbard Pond and its surroundings are under consideration as the site for a heavy industrial type facility by the Regents of the University of Michigan. If the project goes forward, another piece of the critical natural habitat necessary to sustain these and other vulnerable creatures will be lost forever.
UPDATE: In a 12 March 2016 letter, the President of the University of Michigan indicates the proposed heavy industrial project for this site has been "paused". Plus, all applications for various construction permits are suspended and no construction contracts have been awarded.
While this turn of events appears positive, all it takes is will and a whim to re-activate the project. Until the final determination is STOP, the possibility of this easily preventable man-made disaster remains. Now is the time to stand-up. Mother Nature needs your voice.

You do not need to be a resident of the affected neighborhood to sign the petition to STOP this project. Your help will be greatly appreciated. See...
