The first photo of the evening just as the sun slips behind the hills. See the album named "Sunset - 8/21/2015" for more details.
As the colorful fall slowly slips into the grey gloominess of winter in the Pacific Northwest, I often look back at the archives of the summer wonderlands of the country to help tide things over until the next blast of sun. Not only does it help with the Seasonal Affectiveness Disorder, it also gives me something to look forward to for the next year.
I found this grey gloominess to be a challenging change as I moved from California to the PNW. While it makes the summer ever so glorious, I miss the ability to go outside year-round as I did in the Golden state. While I can still enjoy quiet winter moments in the snowy woodlands of Cascadia, it quite doesn't compare to the stimulating freedom that the southwest offered.
It is time for another winter here. So here is a blast from the past summer: the crystal clear sparkling waters of Lake Tahoe

A theme that has always seemed to run throughout my work no matter what the style or concept is 'contrasting elements'
For example I like a lot of negative space to contrast with texture, I like colour and beauty to contrast mundane and I like visual to challenge obvious meaning.
Throughout these images I took a backseat within my approach and focused on the little things.
It didn't take me long to start noticing these stickers around town, all the same base design, but not one identical.
One thing all these stickers did have in common was the placement, the brightly coloured kites had all been placed in such subtle yet contrasting areas. They were always on a weathered lamp post or dented bin, they always made an ugly, worn down thing beautiful.

Unlike some other manufacturers, the warranty slips that came with Falcon puzzles aren't particularly colourful or interesting to look at, being a small piece of paper with a single colour of text and no graphics present.
I've scanned this example, a piece of plain paper measuring 77 mm x 146 mm with text on a single side, as it comes from an Australian produced Falcon puzzle and shows the Melbourne return address.
Should possibly scan the UK examples that I have too, showing the different return addresses used there over the years, for completeness.
This company has been giving out a lot of pink slips lately but this is ridiculus. At first i thought the picture was funny because i am sure that is an add of some sort on the car. but then i found out:
( 50% of the workers let go, no insurance, lower hours, and not allowed to work a part time job. trades secrets might escape through a part time job that would feed ones family. because you know there are so many other companies in the frickin us of a where one could go to work part time at another textile research office! gee let me see, these people would have to go to brazil! BUY AMERICAN PEOPLE! EVEN IF ITS CHEAP CRAP AND YOU HAVE TO BUY IT MORE AND MORE UNTIL PEOPLE GET THERE JOBS BACK!
SO GO RUSH OUT AND BUY HUGE AMOUNTS OF SPRINGMAID SHEETS AND BED DING THAT HAS ONLY BEEN MADE IN THE USA. MIGHT HAVE TO LOOK REALLY HARD FOR THAT.

The Trans Canada Trail slips away from Chilliwack Lake Road like a soft invitation — a narrow ribbon of snow leading you deeper into the valley, following the river’s voice toward S⨱ótsaqel. In winter, this stretch becomes a world of its own, hushed and bright, where the mountains feel closer and the forest holds its breath.
The trail winds through dense evergreens, their branches heavy with fresh snow. Every step is a soft crunch, every sound muted except for the steady rush of the Chilliwack River running cold and blue beside you. The air is crisp, carrying that faint metallic scent of deep winter.
Light filters through in pale shafts, catching on ice crystals and turning the forest into something almost luminous.
The trail gradually opens, the trees thinning as the valley floor widens. The river slows, the air cools, and the mountains begin to lean inward. Snow deepens near the shoreline, softening every edge. Then the forest parts — and the lake appears.
Thank you kindly for visiting—faves and comments are always deeply appreciated. ~Sonja
